PARALYSIS. Mr. HALSE, the MEDICAL GALVANIST, of 22, Brunswick-square, London, earnestly recommends in- valids and gentlemen of the medical profession, to peruse the following. It cannot but surprise them, and prove to them the all but miraculous powers of Galvanism, when applied in a scientific manner, and with an efficient apparatus. The following case is, perhaps, as remarkable a one as could be selected, as showing the powers of Galvanism, after every medicine, and almost every medical practitioner in Devonshire, had been tried in vain; and as ibe truth of it is witnessed by a distinguished clergyman of the Established Church, there can one would suppose,be no donbt in any one's mind as to its ac- curacy. Wheo the patient was brought to Mr. H.,his wife told him that she could not believe that Galvanism or anything else could possibly restore him lor his complaint had been standing so long, and he was in such a weak stale, that it would be pre- sumptuous to expect any benefit, particularly as he had tried the most celebrated physicians in Devonshire, and still daily con- tinued to get woise. She also stated, that her friends hlamed her very much for removing him from his home but she could not help it Her hushand had heard of such extraordinary cures made by Mr. H. in his complaint, that galvanized he would be, in spite of everything. His medical man was quite angry with, him for thinking of such a thing; and when his friends were carrying bim from his house to the carriage, every one appeared to be convinced that they should never see him alive any more. But, notwithstanding all the difficulties he had to contend with he was determined, and insisted upon being galvanized. The following letter, which he sent to the editor of the Exeter Fly- ing Post," will prove the result:— OUGHT NOT GALVANISM TO BE MORE GENERALLY RESORTED TO? A letter to the Editor of the Flying Post," by one who lia derived immense benefit from the power of the Galrani ApC- parafuB :— MR. EDITOB,— A few weeks oince, I noticed a paragraph by you, stating that Galvanism ought to be more generally em- ployed. I beg to state, that 1 am precisely of the same opinion, for I have witnessed its astonishing effects in a number of cases, and its power has been tried practically ul,on myself, with the happiest results. In that paragraph I was most happy to find favourable mention of Mr. Halse's name. All that you have said of him, and even more, is his due; indeed, for my- self I have cause to bless the day that I first placed myself under his care. "We have now in use a Pump Bucket which has been attached to one of om Pumps 26 months, and during that time worked full 13 months, on what is called half time. It is as sound now as when first put in, and we expect it to wear at least two years more. Owing to an aocident in one of the Pump Buckets about a month ago, we were obliged to have recourse to a leather one, and it ivas completely worn out in three -wee/is." From Mr. C. Three Gutta Percha 12-inch pit boxes, (or Pump Buckets) drawing watci %7|~feet stroke, have been used and worn out in this mine, and I beg to inform you. that they have lasted on an average six weeks each, giving double the average wear cf leatlwr boxes, (or buckets). This alone is important in saving time and cost of changing boxes, especially in long lifts, and Gutta Percha requiring no nails for gearing, the working pieces will doubtless last much loiter. On the whole, :we much prefer Gutta Percha to leather for boxes. SYPHONS FOR MINES. From Mr. A. CROSFIELD, Ty Maur Colliery, nr. Ponty-pridd. The Gutta Percha Pipe used as a Syphon for drawing water from a deep heading at these works, answers admirably; and although the pipe is so small, it is surprising the quantity of water passing through it.
