By SPECTATOR." Rugby. Aberdare v. Neath. Played at the New Athletic Grounds before a fairly large crowd. Both teams were strongly repre- sented. Edwards was given a rest, and Austin Davies partnered Mog Bevan. Referee, Mr G. H. Jones, Cwmbran. -0- In the previous match at Neath, the Darians were beaten by 5 points to nil, but on this occasion their supporters were con- fident of victory. —o— Neath started the game a little after the advertised time. From a mark by Dai Jones the home forwards went away with a rush, and prevented the visitors from putting in a good kick, with the result that the venue of operations settled down in Neath territory for a short time. The visiting front line relieved with a dribble and kept the home defence busy. Reddick pW nf dangpT .with, a splendid kick to touch. Thu Dare ic; wards, who were playing a sound game, pressed strongly and only superb play by Bevan, the Neath custodian, kept them out. Just before the interval, Neath were forced to concede a minor, but this did not help them much. From a scrum on the 25 line Tommy Arnold received and threw out a long pass to Lucimore, who gathered the ball splendidly and made for the line, but was confronted by Tom Jones, the Neath half. Lucimore however transferred neatly to Austin Davies, and the latter sprinted over the line. Dai Thomas failed to negotiate. Half-time score: Aberdare 1 try; Neath nil. -0- Dai Jones re-started for Aberdare, the ball going into touch. The home forwards kept the ball close, and prevented the Neath backs from gaining possession of the leather. The game now became terribly rough, and the referee ordered Joe Eynon off the field. This did not prevent both sides infusing too much vigour into their play, several men being injured somewhat slightly. Neath were attacking hotly when D. H. Davies became sandwiched between Dai Jones and Griff Jones, with the result that he had to leave the ground with a bad cut over the eye. A few of the Neath players refused to continue the game and the referee walked off the field. The game then came to an abrupt termination. Final score Aberdare, 1 try Neath, nil. -0 The game was the worst seen on the New Athletic Grounds since the formation of the Rugby Club. The referee was in a measure to blame for not being able to control the players. The first half was slightly in favour of the Darians. The forwards heeled out much cleaner than usual, and the third line consequently were enabled to get through a lot of work. Tommy Arnold, Reddish, Austin Davies, and Mog Bevan were the pick of the back division, Grift John, Dai Jones, Arch and Lloyd of the forwards. -0- Glamorgan League. Aberdare and Peny- graig met at the New Athletic Grounds on Monday afternoon before a small crowd. Aberdare were without Dai Rees, while the visitors were also handicapped by the absence of a few of their players. -0- In the first both sides attacked in turn but were unable to break through the de- fence. The second portion was of a very fast description. Dai Thomas scored twice, both tries being unconverted. Peny- graig pressed strongly but failed to reduce the Darians'lead. Final score :—Aberdare, 2 tries Penygraig, nil.

Association. Aberdare v. Rogerstone. Played under the auspices of the South Wales and Mon- mouthshire League on the ground of the last named club. Ingham and Brown scored for Aberdare and Fyfe for the home- sters in the first half. Rogerstone tried hard to get the equalizer, but thanks to some fine kicking by the Dare backs the Darians won by 2 goals to 1. In the latter portion Brown wrenched his arm and had to leave. -0- Aberdare Thursdays v. Aberaman Wind- sors at the New Athletic Grounds. Aber- dare were without Tom Thomas, the cap- tain, and the visitors were minus Roderick and Parry. Referee, Mr Tom Morris, Aberaman. Play in the first half was very exciting, both goals having narrow escapes. The second portion was in favour of the Darians, who pressed strongly. Final score: Aberdare Thursdays, 5 goals Aber- aman Windsors, 2 goals. -0- The scorers for Aberdare were Joe Lewis, Ivor Davies, Rees James, Billy Edwards and Jacobs. Mountain Ash District Council Elections. Old Members Ousted. In five out of the six wards in the Moun- tain Ash Urban District, there were contests last Monday. Two of the old members, viz.. Mr George Leighton (Duffryn) and Mr John Jones (Abercynon) did not seek re-election. Two other members, Major Morgan and Mr T. M. Bevan, have been defeated, therefore there will be four new members on the new Council. The official figures, which were announced late on Monday evening, were as follows: — 0 Duffryn Ward— R. In the Darranlas and Penrhiwceiber Wards, the question that loomed above all others was the Roman Catholic school ques- tion, and Major Morgan's and Mr T. M. Bevan's advocacy of the claims of this school has cost them their seats. Mr W. Griffiths and Mr J. P. Davies were run by the Free Churches on the Anti-Education Act ticket. The contests in these places have been very heated some rowdy meet- ings have been held, and personalities freely indulged in. Mr Charles' seat was pretty safe, and no one thought for a moment that he would be defeated. By Mr Parsons' election, the number of Labour members on the Council is increased to three. The minority on the Catholic school ques- tion is now reduced to three, viz., Capt. F. N. Gray, Mr W. S. Davies and Mr Bruce Jones. The result in Abercynon is just what was expected. Mr J. R. Morgan was not by any means a popular Labour candidate. A strong Labour man here would have carried easily.

Mountain Ash Pavilion Co. v. Greenwood. A Settlement arrived at. At the Glamorgan Assizes on Wednesday (before Commissioner Harrison, K.C.) Mr Ivor Bowen stated that the cases of the Mountain Ash Market and Pavilion Co., Ltd., v. Greenwood (rent) and Greenwood v. Mountain Ash Market and Pavilion Co., Ltd. (alleged breach of covenant), had been settled on terms. Mr S. T. Evans, K.C., and Mr Sankey (instructed by Mr Gwilym James) were for the Mountain Ash Market and Pavilion Company, and Mr Ivor Bowen (instructed by Messrs Grover & Matthews, Pontypridd), for Greenwood.

Among the Locals. [BY "MUDDIED OAF."] Bryncoch (Neath) v. Aberdare Crusaders. This return fixture was played at the former's ground before a large crowd. Referee, Mr T. Jones, Bryncoch. In the first half, Spacy kicked off for the Crusaders and Powis, the home custodian, returned to touch. A fine effort was made by Burgum, who dribbled the ball into the home 25, but Bryncoch retaliated, and coming up in a body, forced matters. In trying to clear, Garfield Thomas, the Crusaders fullback, kicked across, and Jones receiving, rai, up and scored a doubtful try for Bryncoch. From the kick out, the Crusaders became aggressive, and scrums were formed within the home territory. Williams, picking up the ball from a scrummage, ran down and crossed over with a well merited try. The game in the second moiety was strenuously contested, but nothing further was scored. Final score :—Aberdare Crusaders, 1 try Bryncoch, 1 try. -0- Brown, the visiting captain, was rather off colour. Burgum, D. Davies and Spacy were prominent for the Crusaders, as also were Williams and Beynon at half back. For Bryncoch, Powis, the full back, and Llewelyn, at centre three quarter, were decidedly best. The result proved a sur- prise to local Ruggerites, and yet the Cru- saders mean to do more. Mr H. Brown, the secretary, has picked a powerful fifteen to play against the Aberaman Cynon Juniors next Saturday at Michael's Field. -0- Cwmbach Lilywhites v. Aberdare Cres- cents. This match, which was played at the Ynyscynon Grounds on Saturday last, was a Benefit for Dai Jenkins, Cwmbach, who met with a serious accident whilst playing against the Crescents some time ago. There was a good'attendance. -0- W. R. Jones kicked off for Cwmbach. Moses, in receiving, passed to Pritchard, who crossed out to T. Behenna, but M. J. Davies cleared. Cwmbach came away with a rush, but W. Thomas (G.W. Rovers), neutralised their efforts. Pendry got away, and even play ensued for about 10 minutes. Afterwards, Behenna broke through and scored the Crescents' first goal. The home forwards again came away, but Pendry ob- tained, and sending to Moses, the latter added a second goal. Give and take play for fully 5 minutes resulted in Brain notch- ing a third goal for the visitors with a splen- did shot. Half-time score :—Crescents, 3 goals; Cwmbach, nil. —o— Moses restarted operations for the Cres- cents, and the Cwmbach defence was con- tinually tested. From the attack by the Cwmbach forwards. Geo. Davies missed a certain goal, tne ball being secured by Will Thomas, who ran down and scored a fourth goal for the visitors, Walker astonished all by his superb play. Subse- quently Fred Rees scored for Cwmbach. Pendry then dribbled, but found the home defence too good. Final score:—Crescents, 4 goals Cwmbach, 1 goal. -0- Geo. Walker was indeed the finest back on the field. Despite the rough handling he received, Will Thomas gave a good display at centre half. Cliff Brain, Pugh, Behenna and Moses were also well ahead in all round work. For Cwmbach, Evan R. Williams was decent in goal. M. J. Davies, at back, Fred Rees, W. R. Jones and Dai Price were also conspicuous. The match between the Greenhill Rovers and G.W. Rovers was abandoned owing to the Great Western lads failing to make an appearance. This does not savour of true sportsmanship. —o— Aberdare County School v. Aberdare Pupil Teachers. This final fixture of the Teachers was played at the Park last Satur- day in glorous weather. At the outset the game was strenuously waged, each side ex- periencing hard lines in not sooring. After the interval, the venue was a litlle changed, but the space was subsequently quickened, The School's defence was severely tested, but Dai Roderick acquitted himself with grace. Occasionally, interesting bits of play were contributed by the Teachers, who missed several chances of netting. Ulti- mately from a retaliatory kick by Parry, the Teachers were enabled to press vigorously, and from a scuffle in front of goal Geo. Davies netted. Edwards and Jones missed numerous chances of equalising. Parry and Charlie Rees played a sound defensive game for the P.T.'s. From a rush by the Teachers, Oliver Evans received, and with a beautiful shot registered a second goal. Final score :—Teachers, 2 goals; County School, nil. -0- Roderick was the School's saviour, and Mr Edwards the most prominent in the open. Gwilym A. Jones and Dai Price were also noteworthy. Dai Parry and C. Rees constituted a sterling defence. Oliver Evans. Geo. Davies and Stephens were also to the front, -0- The finest schoolboys' team in the dis- trict are the Abernant boys, They have defeated the National, Robertstown, Town, Ynyslwyd and Park schools in the course of a few weeks. Praise is due to the teachers, Messrs T. Walker. J. M. S. James and E. A. Bowen for their painstaking efforts with the boys. -0- Cwmaman v Aberdare. Referee, Mr R. Batty, Merthyr. Played on the former's ground on Monday last. Aberdare were minus Seaward, Archie Davies, and Brown. Williams, of Lampeter College, partnered Golding at back. Wedlock playing outside left. J. Jones played in goal. Cwmaman had a few reserves out. —o— At the outset, Aberdare were aggressive, and Shenton opened the scoring. Good work was contributed by Dan Thomas and Clarke, but the homesters failed to make any headway. Aberdare obtained a corner, and Joseph was severely tested between the sticks. From a fine burst by the home- sters, Enoch Jones crossed out to Clarke, but the latter missed the net. Dick Davies shone to advantage at this stage. The homesters forced a corner or two which proved abortive. Shenton afterwards showed wonderful form and gave his oppo- nents a rare handful. Through the efforts of Dan Thomas, Dick Davies and Enoch Jones, the homesters pressed and had hard lines in not netting. Aberdare were ir- resistible in their passing. McKiernan came away and Wedlock obtained, but Aaron Lloyd intercepted. Aberdare ulti- mately scored a second goal through Harry Roberts, Half-time score: Aberdare 2 goals, Cwmaman nil. -0- After lemons, the Darians came away, but Dan Isaac repelled their shots. Enoch obtained and sent to Whiteford, who fruit- lessly endeavoured to beat the defence. Parker obtaining, transferred to "Scottie," who missed by inches. A further good attempt was made by Clarke for the home- sters, but the backs were perfect. Dan Thomas was exceedingly tricky for Cwm. aman, who now gave Jones a few shots to clear. A retaliatory kick by Williams was secured by Ingham, who passed to Parker. Wedlock received and crossed to McKiernan, but Lloyd intervened and sent out, but Shenton secured and scored a third goal. With a determined rush, Cwmaman came away. Whiteford obtaining, passed to Enoch Jones, and the latter scored for Cwm- aman. The homesters played up brilliantly but Aberdare were too good, scoring a further goal. Afterwards, Roberts added another. Cwmaman forced a corner before the end. Final score Aberdare, 5 goals Cwmaman 1 goal. Evan Joseph played a very good game as custodian for the Cwm.
