ABERCWMBOI HEROES HONOURED. On Thursday last a onceit was held at the Workmen's Hall, Abel' cwmboi, in honour of 16 war heroes, some of whom it re discharged, others- being homo on leave. Mr. E. AV Thomas, the chairman, who is a dis- charged soldier, said that there were present th:tt evening some who were in the retreat of Mons and some were fighting when the armistice was signed. One had been through the South African campaign. There were two who had been prisoners of war in Germany. The hall was crowded. The chairman was supported OIl the platform by Mr. Rees Davies and Mr Henry Williams chairman and sec- retary of the committee respectively- The accompanist was Mr. J. W. Evans. Programme:—Opening solo, Mr. Tom Jones; lecitation, Mie& Minnio Maud Jones; solo, Mr. Abra- ham Morris (Ap Morris); solos, Mr. George Jones. mrg. Tal Evans, David Harris. J. Thomas (Rhosfab); recita- tion, Mr. Phil Wills; solas, Air. W- S. Davies; W. Harris; recitation. Miss Bella Jones; solos, Mr. W. J. Williams, Miss Bella Jones, Mr Tom Wills. The 16 heroes came to the platform and were presented with glow wrist watches, wallets, cigarette cases or fountain pens; each recipient having his choice. They were: -Pue Gillman, 103 Park View Terrace, a returned prisoner of war; Pte fhos- Hobby, Cromer Street, who had been in Salonica for 3^ years; Pte John Jones, 88 Jenkin Street; Pte Sidney Williams, 6 Grove Terrace, who -ad been prisoner of war for 12 months, Pto John Beynon, the veteran of the South African war; Ptes Enoch Matthews, Park View Terrace; Wil- lie Morgan, 58 Jenkin Street; Evan Phillips, Ash Street; Willie Long- ford, 7 Oak Terrace; Cpl James J. N. Walker, 4 School Street; Pte Lewis Williams; Pte Tom Miles Pte David Williams (hairdresser);" Able Seaman Richard Davies, 22 Bronallt; Pte Joseph Barnes, Elm Street; Pte Tommy Davies, 12 Tanycoed. A num- ber of ladies from the audience vol- unteered to hand over the presents, after which Cpl Walker, M.C., on behalf of himself and comrades. thanked tho residents for their kind- ness towards them. He was sure -at the inhabitants of Abercwmboi had; done their bit in the Great War.
