G hit-Ghat. I The funeral of Mrs Muller, wife of Mr George I Muller, founder of the Ashley Down Orphanage, I Bristol, took place last week at Arno's Vale Cemetery. I The first portion of the service was condueted at I Stokes Croft Chapel, by Mr Muller personally. Mr I Muller is 90 years of age. 0 0 0 I The deceased lady took a deep interest in Mr I Muller's woik at the Orphanage, and also in his I labours as an evangelist. She accompanied him on I his numerous preaching tours, during which she I travelled 160,000 miles. In one tour alone they I travelled 37,000 miles. All these tours were under- I taken after Mr Muller was 70 years of age During I his tours he preached to more than 3,000,000 persons. 000 I Let me address a word of caution to local trades- I people. It has reached my ears that a certain bill I distributor, who is frequently seen doing the round I of our town, one day last week called at the shop of I a certain tradesman, and there left hundreds of bills ■ which be bad for dIstribution. This was a criminal I offence on t:he part of the bill distributor, a*'d were ■ action taken against the tradesman, he would doubt- ■ less be held equally liable. We know this kind of ■ thing has been frequently done. It is encouraging ■ dishonesty and deceit. A word to the wise is suffi- ■ cient. 000 ■ Good-byes and welcomes have been expressed this ■ week among the members of the Salvation Army. ■ Captain Dan Godsafe, wife and daughter, have "fare- ■ welled," and Captain Sfcanbury and Lieut. Beasley, ■ from Pontypridd, have been safely ensconced in their ■ Lew hoxe. The late Captain was somewhat eccen- tric, and some of his doings here were not heartily approved by the corps; but he is gone, and we hope that among the Llanellyites* with whom his lot will be cast for a time, he will be more popular and more appreciated. Our best wishes go with him- 0 0 0 We extend a cordial greeting to the new officers. They have entered a difficult field of labour-this is the verdict of most officers who have resided in Penarth—but if the tasks undertaken are faithfully performed, the well done" at last will be a rich reward. May great success attend their labours. 000 j Mr Cornwell, with his usual large-heartedness, has this week been suppling soup of excellent quality gra- tuitcusly, and entirely at his own expense, to hundreds of poor children and people out of work. Mr Corn- well seeks no praise nor public commendation there- fore we only add that his kindness has been greatly appreciated. It is to be hoped that his example will be followed, or that others will assist, because, though Mr Cornwell may be prepared to carry on the good work so long as it :uay be needed, it is not right that those who have the means should allow one to bear all the burden. 0 0 0 • To assist a most deserving object, the feusquehannah Minstrels will give a grand entertainment in Andrews' Large Hall next Wednesday. This troupe has gained great popularity in Cardiff aud district, and as their existence is principally for the good of others-that is to give entertainments in aid of deserving institutions -we can only hope that they will be accorded a very hearty reception when they visit Penarth. The pro- ceeds of the forthcoming entertainment will go to the fund for purchasing a new Bristol Channel Mission Steamer. The Rev C. W. H. Browne will be glad to receive applications for tickets, or they may be pur- chased at the Chronicle Office, 2s and Is each. A correspondent writes:- 49 The snow, the snow, the beautiful snow." Yes, undoubtedly, it was beautiful, although I could not see its beauty after that naughty boy threw a snow- ball at me, which struck me in the eye. It made me cry-, ° My eye, my eye, my beautiful eye, From blue to black is turning; All colours ara before my eye, And, oh, my eye is burning." This was impromptu poetry 000 r Ilave you had a snowball in the poll ? Isn't it nice to feel it going meandering down your back and trickling in a half-dozen little streams. If you have C, not had this experience, and would like to try it as an experiment, come to the office, and we'll guarantee that one of our little imps will give you satisfaction before you leave. o 0 0 It is rumoured that one of the leading officials of the Taff Vale Railway has tendered his resignation.

Collision in Penarth Roads. Between seven and eight o clock on Sunday morn- ing a serious collision occurred between the sailing ship Chipnau and the steamer Ocean. The Chipnau leit the Roath Dock in tow of a tug bound for the Island of Mahee, Indian Ocean. Soon after clearing the dock, however, a thick fog came on, which ren- dered navigation very difficult, and when in ihe Penarth Roads the steamer Ocean, of La Rochelle, laden with pitwood, from Bayonne for Cardiff, ran across her bows, colliding with her. The steamer's bulwarks were carried away and her plates damaged on the port side, whilst the Chipnau's stem was badly damaged. The Chipnau returned to the Roath Dock- where she docked on Monday morning. The steamer entered the East Cock-
