EGLWYSILAN SCHOOL BOARD The New Schools at Seughenydd. THE OPENING CEREMONY. The monthly meeting of the Eglwrsilan School Board was held at the Council Offices, Caer- philly, on Monday. The Rev Daniel Lewis, R.D., presided, and he was supported by Messrs David Lewis (vice-chairman), John Morgan,Wm. Davies, Evan Sherrah, T. S. Wright, J. S. Jones, and Mr C. S. Richards; with the clerk, Mr Thomas Thomas. APPOINTMENTS. Two applications were received for the posi- tion of assistant master at Caerphilly Schools. One of them liavin- stated that he was only pre- pared to accept the post conditionally upon the Board promoting him to a head mastership im- mediately a vacancy occurred his application was not considered, and the appointment went to Mr Rees Jones, Nantgaaw. Miss M. Rees, Lampeter, was, on the proposi- tion of the Vice-chairman, seconded by Mr Evan Sherrah, appointed lo the position of assistant mistress at the new Senghenydd Schools. Miss Catherine James, a third year pupil teacher at Aberdare, applied to be appointed to Senghenydd school provided she could obtain her transfer. On the, proposition of the Vice-chairman, se- conded by Mr John Morgan, her application was granted. On the proposition of Mr Evan Sherrah, se- conded by Mr W. Davies, J. Edmunds, Seng- henydd, was appointed as monitor at Senghen- ydd. It was decided to open the new schools at Senghenydd on Monday, the 30th August, and on the proposition of Mr C. S. Richards, the Chairman was deputed to perform l-e opening ceremony, and it was decided to invite Mr Rees, Maesyffynon, Aberdare (a director of the Uni- versal Collierv, Senghenydd), io be present afc the ceremony. The following gentlemen were appointed a committee to work up the details connected with the opening, and to report to the Board at the next meeting The Chairman, Messrs John Morgan, T. S. Wright. W. Davies, E. Sherrah, and the Clerk, together with the headmaster, Mr Dan Lloyd. Mrs Margaret Jenkins, widow, Senghenydd, was, out of five applicants, given the duties of cleaning the Senghenydd schools. The report on the evening schools at Aber was read, which stated that the school was well con- ducted, and the instructors in the different sub- jects were very sound. The written subjects were decidedly creditable, especially the hand- writing, and the instruction in vocal music was highly appreciated by the class. The Clerk remarked that there was a gain of £6 or B7 in the class for the year. The report was considered highly satisfactory by tLe. Board.
