The Happy Vailey Minstrels. PROPOSED EVEN IN 3 PERFORMANCES. MR. CHURCHILL'S THREAT. The question of granting permission to Mr Churchill to. give three evening performances in thi Happy Valley before, the end of the first week in September was considered at a meeting of the Llandudno Council on Wednesday, when the recommendation of the Bye-lawTs Committee "that permission be given" came up for confirmation, Mr Wm. Thomas moved that permission be not given, and said he did so because the boatmen should be taken into consideration. An evening performance in the Happy Valley would greatly interfere with their trade. The same argument applied to the shopkeepers and others. He considered that the Council had already dea;lt very gertrously with Mr Churchill. Mr W. O. Wliliams, seconding, said there might be. some '(ruth an the statement that he (had suffered in July, but during the last three weeks the Valley had been crowded every after- noon, and he thought Mr Churchill had done very well indeed during August. A letter signed by boatmen and cab pro- prietors was read asking the Council not to permit evening performances. Mr Beaumont said that Mr Churchill had only been out of the Valley one afternoon that season. If there was any doubt about the weather half the troupe went to the Prince's and half to the Valley, so that it was im- possible for him to. lose. Mr Robert Roberts said that the troupe was a great attraction to the town., and Mr Churchill had promised to help them in their effort to extend the season. That fact had weighed very much with him when the matter was considered. He thought the grievance of the boatmen could be met by fixing the nights when the tide was out After some further discussion Mr Thomas' motion was carried by a large majority. The decision was conveyed to Mr Churchill, who was waiting to hear the iresult, and he sent in a message to the effect that he would have to forego his intention to continue the performances during October.
