Day Excursions from London LONDON AND NORTH-WESTERN RAILWAY COMPANY'S NEW TRAIN. CHARGES CRITICISED. At the monthly meeting of the Council on Wednesday Mr Robert Roberts produced hand- bills shewing that th<e London and North- western Railway Company intended running a day excursion to Llandudno:, leaving Euston on Sunday night or rather Monday morning at 12-10, .and returning from Llandudno at 5-40 p.m. Monday. That Showed how anjxious the company was to give Londoners some idea of what Llandudno was -like, and would no doubt do much to encourage them to come to the flown for their holdays. Mr T. W. Griffith saad the fare. (12s.) was too high for a day trip. If they wanted to make the trip popular they would have to reduce it toaibaut half. He remembered a day excur- sion to London at 7s. 6d., and thought that if the Company could run excursions to London at that they ought to be able to run them from London at the same price. The Chairman said that Mr Warner was to meet the railway faciliti-escommittee the next day, and that he would weloome, suggestions for improving the service. The matter then dropped. The Troubles of a Blind Harpist. A VISITOR'S COMPLAINT. At the monthly meeting of Llandudno Coun- cil on Wednesday, Mr J. McMaster presiding, Councillors devoted considerable time to the question of what to do with the blind harpist who plays on the promenade. The Bye-laws Committee reported that a let- ter had been received complaining of his monotonous playing, and that the Inspectors had been "authorised to eo arrange the pitches that the harpist shall cause as little annoyance as possible to the residents and visiting public," Mr Chaiitrey asked that the letter be read. The Council having agreed, the Clerk read the following, 'signed by Mr H. E. Swain, a London visitor, staying at Lockyer's Hotel:- "Permit me very respectfully to call your attention to a nuisance. "There is a man on the sea front who makes a noise on the harp (he cannot play it), and he seems to keep tit up all day long. "Now, sir, I am convinced that if you were to stay in. this house for a few days you would think the perpetual tinkering as exasperating as we do. "This is my fourth visit to Llandudno, and I am now staying here with my family, but I give you my word that I folr one will never visit the town again unless I have information tnat the nuisance- has been stopped." Mr Chantrey said he was not at all surprised E' at the letter, but he was surprised at the re- commendation of the committee. A very serious complaint had been made by a visitor, and he knew what a nuisance he was to. people staying at his /house. He really f-elt too in- dignant at the recoimmendatiian. of the com- mittee to adequately express his feelings. They put up with a nuisance like, the harpist and refused to allow Miss G-awthorpe, to listen to whom was, a real pleasure, to hold a meeting on the beach. In reply to this it was stated that the Mostyn Estate would object. Mr Robt. Roberts said the suggestions were made with a view to irecTlrcing the nuisance by distributing the harpist's services. The com- mittee had thought -of sending him to Craigy- don. Mr Boine -suggested a stand opposite the Hippodrome where the sound of harp would be drowned by the music of the Tink band. Mr David Davies proposed that he be only allowed to play for half-an-hour on one pdtdh and then move a distance of a hundred yards. Also that he should /not occupy any pitch often than once a day Mr Hugh Edwards: He plays one piece which last three quiarters-of-on-bour. Mr T1. W. Griffith entered a plea on- behalf of the harpist, and said his playing must give pleasure to some one or he would not be sup- ported as he had been. Eventually it was decided that the harpist should be found a, pitch in the Happy Valley Road. e

Llandudno and Colwyn Bay Tramway Extension. Mr David Gamble presided over a special meeting of the Colwyn Bay Urban District Council on Friday evening, when a recom- mendation -from the General Purposes Com- mittee was submitted with regard to the exten- sion of the Llandudno and Colwyn Bay Elec- tric T'raway Company's tramway from the exist- ing terminus uo Old Colwyn. The Company have ,alrea,dypower to extend their line to Giloes, a pcoint about half-way be- tween the present terminus at the top of Sta,tion Road, Colwyn Bay, and Old Colwyn, and the Council have undertaken to carry out whatever road widemings are necessary on that section at a charge of £ 3,000 to the Company. Strong representations 'have been made to the Council urging them to prevail upon the Com- pany to carry the line to the Queen's Hotel, which is situated at the eastern extremity of Old Colwyn, and have the work taken in hand at the same time as the Groes section. Mr Stephen Sellon, chairman of the Tram- way Company's directors, and others mat the Committee at 7 p.m., and theiir deliberations lasted for three hours. Subsequently they were made an offer by the Council that if they carried out the entire scheme to the Queen's Hotel the Council would bear the expense of widening the road where necessary for £ 4,000, the Company to purchase all lands. The Company's representatives are under- stood to have disapproved of the price, but it is felt that a settlement will soon be effected. The proposed extension will lengthen the present route by about a mile amd a half, and will open up a populous and promising area. CYCLIST KILLED JN LIANBERIS PASS. Two young men, John Owen, 20 years of age, son of Mr Joihn Owen, Gorslwyd, Llan- ddona, Anglesey, and John Roberts, Upper Gorslwyd, Llanddona, were cycling dowin Llan- beris Pnss on Sunday night- when they met a motor-car rounding a corner, John Owen im- mediately swerving aside, lost 'Ciointrol of his machine" and dashed into a rock on the road side, against whicih his head struck with such violence that he became unconscious. He was taken to Victoria House, Llanberis, where he died about midnight. Mr Lewis, a contractor at the Llainberis Quarries, decided to cycle to LlandcVma to inform the youth's parents. Llanddona is about 25 males from Llanberis. When Mr Lewis rrolihed Beaumaris, Mr W. Coddington, a well-known yachtsman, carried the wearied main in his motor to Llanddona, and took him and Owen's prurents back to Llanberis. They were, however, too late to see their son alive, he having died about half-an- hc-ur before their arrival.
