Mr. JIMMY MADDOCKS. THE MINSTKLS. — Mr Jimmy Maddocks, comedian, has been appointed (on the recom- mendation of Mr E. H. Williams) out of twelve applicants to supply Colwyn Bay with a minstrel troupe for next summer, by the Colwyn Bay trban District Council. Mr Maddocks was a Popular member of Mr E. H. Williams' Famous •tyiyl Merrie Men last season for 23 weeks, and also toured with Mr Williams' trope to the 40 towns booked. We congratulate Mr Maddocks ?? the Colwyn Bay permit, and also pr L. H. Williams on having, out of his first troupe, being instrumental in placing one of his artistes as proprietor of such a well-known troupe as the Colwyn Bay one. Mr Maddocks IS already busy engaging artistes, and selecting sketches, etc., and will call his troupe the HaPPy Coons." Mr Maddocks will be much hissed from the Rhyl sands, as he was well uked and a universal favourite amongst the Merrie Men."—"RHYL JOURNAL." THE MINSTRELS. — Mr Jimmy Maddocks, comedian, has been appointed to supply Colwyn ay with a Minstrel Troupe next season. The ouncil had twelve applications, but selected ^ir Maddocks, who was recommended by Mr E. At- Williams, Rhyl's minstrel proprietor.—Mr Maddocks was well liked by the audiences and the Rhyl troupe, and in addition to being a Member of the Rhyl minstrels for 23 weeks on the Rhyl sands, toured to the 40 towns arranged °y Mr E. H. Williams. It must be very grati- fying to Mr E. H. Williams, that out of his hrst years' troupe he has been successful in starting one of his artistes as proprietor.—"RHYL ADVERTISER." ————— Lifc ofMr yimmv Maddocks, Comedian and Stump Orator, reproduced by ki Ilil pcrmissioll of Jlj- E. H. Wdliams, t. -oiit Ilis book, "The Lives of the Famous Rhyl Merrie Mell." E LR JIMMY MADDOCKS was born at Wrexham. dUcated at the British and Grammar Schools, he first joined Miss Zslaggie Morton's Company 1891. Afterwards he toured with T. J. West's Company through Ireland with considerable success, and was a prominent figure at the Congregational pleasant evenings and Church Parish gatherings an,d concerts in Rhyl for several seasons; also at Mr Charles Cooke's Cambridge Hall Concerts, Southport. He selected his own company in 1894, and toured "liny towns with marked success. Last season he formed the Leopold Oreste combination of 14 Star Artistes, and was the possessor of one of the neatest fit-up shows on the road, and hJmay well be proud of having run such a show. The Proprietor of the famous "Merrie Men" soon booked MR. MADDOCKS for his season at Rhyl, at which he was one of the most popular mem- bers of the troupe, and extremely well liked by the men. He also signed a contract for a two ^onths' tour with Mr. E. H. Williams' "Merrie -uen," and MR. MADDOCKS' many friends will be pleased to see and hear him wherever he goes." > "We noticed that amongst Mr. E. H. Williams' Famous Rhyl "Merrie Men" of 17 Star Artistes that appeared, Mr. Jimmy Charters and -fr. Jimmy Maddocks were special favourites, and called forth hearty applause. At night time |ye saw them in their glory, appearing before the terraces. They were both simply bedecked with flowers of the choicest growth. We cannot Say which of the two artistes came in for most such favours. All we can say is that if Jimmy, ^barters or Jimmy Maddocks could only turn heir presents and flowers into money and add ^he same to their salaries, no doubt they would krid that Minstrelsy on the sands is a very profit able business. —"BIRMINGHAM OWL."
