There were also several affidavits read as to their characters, chiefly BY their employers. They set, forth, that their charariers were wholly u aim peached before the OIITIUE they were indicted for. Mr. Attorney-General, on behalf of the Crown, stated, that it was distressing to Sum to ask a severe judgment to he passed on the Defendants, who had such excellent charac- ters; but what must bethe situation of Liver- pool, when persons deserving such characters could join in such a riot and tumult ? He had I in the course of the last hour, been obliged to tile informations against a number of persons, in the same place, for rising to demolish the rendezvous-houses, employed for the impress- service. This shewed the necessity of a heavy punishment. It was but a few days ago that the Court had passed, what might be called a severe punishment, on a person of the same place, for obstructing the military service; and, without some examples were made, the service of the antsy and navy couid not be made effectual. Mr. Clarke, in an eloquent speech, in mi- tigation of judgment, said, after they had committed the ofteuce, they wished to make every atonement in their power; they did not even attempt to justify their conduct. Tnere were no vicious habits to correct, for they immediately repented. If their I,urdshiris could extend mercy to them, it would raise up the desponding iiearis of their families.— The riols which the Learned Attorney-General had alluded to, were made by FOREIGN sailors (Americans), and not by the PEOPLE of Liver- 0001.. Mr. Justice Le Blanc took a comprehensive view of their offence, and observed, that be- ing married men, and masters of families, could not plead any excuse for them-such pledges ought to have made them more care- ful of their conduct, so as to enahle them to protect those who had a claim to it. The Learned Judge then observed, we livcd ill times when the spirit of riot was gone abroad, when every thing was attempted to be earner by force and tumult, and which makes the Court not to be in a situation to shew mercv. He then concluded, by adjudging the defend- ants should be imprisoned for twelve calendar months, in the Castle of Lancaster.

UN TON-HALL, Nov. 20.—Hugh Jones and Rice Roberts, Two Welch Yirovers, were brought before the Sitting Magistrate, by Snow, one of the Surrey Constables, who stated, that he met the Prisoners, on SUNDAY evening, near the Bockingham Arms, in tha Kent road, one of them was leading a. poney, by a halter, and the other following him; having a suspicion that they had stolen the poney, he went up and stopped them, whciT lie perceived a pair of linen trowsers full of something, lying across the poney, the men also had several parcels concealed about Lhem. On examining the parcels and trowsers, they were found to contain nineteen dozen silk handkerchiefs. Rice Roberts hadalso 6TL. iu Bank-notes, in his pocket. The Prisoners said, they had travelled from WALES to Deal with beasts; whilst ai Deal they had purchased the handkerchiefs, for 5(il. of a man named Prinn, who lives N ar Deal. They bought them as articks of English manufacture, and intended to have sold them on their arrival in Wales. At the Magistrate's desire, several eminent silk mercers attended, who, on examining the handkerchiefs, all agreed in opinion, that they were India handkerchiefs, AND such as are prohibited being sold in this country. A person from the Custom-house attended, who, on this decision, seized the handker- chiefs. The prisoners were then discharged hut immediately afterwards were severally served with a summons to attend before the Magis- tral e on Friday next, and shew cause why the handkerchiefs should not be condemned, and a tine of three times their value levied on tile persons in whose possession they were found by the Officer, according to the Act of Far. liament.

CLASS II. Premiums to Tenants holding Farms not exceed- ing fifty-acres. These premiums may be claimed by any te- nant at Rack rent, holding his Farm a tenant at will, or for any term not exceeding three lives or twenty-one years, provided the same shall not exceed 50 acres. Premium 1. To the tenant who shall have his Farm in the best general state of cultivation, and in the neatest and most exact order, as to Fences, drains, Farimyard, cleanliness from weeds, &C. Such farm not exceeding fifty-acres, Five Guineas. Premium 2. The like Premium, the farm not exccedingthirty acres, Three Guineas. Premium 3. The like Premium, (he farm not cxceedintwenty acres, Two In awarding these premiums, the preference will be given to Fanners who raise Turnips, Vetches, or Cabbages. Premium 4. To the tenant who shall lay down the greatest quantity of land with white clover or grass seeds for Hay and Pasture, in the best man- ner and the cleanest from weeds, the quantity not being less thknfive acres, Three Guineas.
