She had six French sailors Ton.'bbard, and a prize- but Capt. Harries had bet-n taken out, and is on board the privateer. Having secuied tin* \essel, Captain Oughton led his brave fencibles On witn intent to board the privateer, but on approaching her, she .was; found too for- midable to be curried by open boats, and alter discharging severat broadsides at the boats, she made off. A cutter of 14 guns is expected: every tide, from Mil- ford, to convoy the trade ,from this port. His. Majesty's sloop MotiCherpn has retaken two of the vessels capt ured by the S'Orcier French privateer in the Bris- stol channel, but we have, not been able to ascertain their names. The Morriston, whose capture atrd recapture we men- tioned last week, arrived here on Saturday grear hopes are entertained that the privateer whof took her will be in- tercepted before she reaches a French port, but we are as yet unable to announce the agreeable news. Walter Hilt Here I Do geve Capt"d.in Evens Notis that IDont ihtelldTo aieud ihe Leominster Devizonof VoHiters Ene more I belong to the first Cumpaney Dated this March the, etil, ;N-- Clergy Residence Act -<-lt has, -we believe, been very generally supposed by the clergy, that such of them as may not have patsonagei-houses, yet reticle within their respective parishes,; and regu- larly discharge their parochial duties, are secure against informations for non-residence. This, however, is not the case and we are anxious to correct the error before it be too late. It is now cl 'ar d s.e, tt matter of clear and settled law, established by all. the judgments of late years, under the statute ot Hen. VIII. that the incumbent of a benefice with cure, notwithstanding he live in'his parish, and discharge all the duties of a parish priest, is never- theless liable to the penalties of that act; and the only difference which the new bill has made is, that the want of a proper-"house of residence is m ade one of the cases which the bishop is enrpow- ered to protect. A clergyman, therefore, who has nohouse of residence belonging to his benefice, (if he be not exempted by privilege) must endea- vour to obtain the bishop's lie eh c a before the. end of the present month of March. Without such licence, the month of" April sets in, he-will be open to an .ihforrhati6n: for a wilful non-residence of, m.ore than three months, and less than six, and will incur a forieiture of one-third of annual ■viilue. ■■ e I, c I At blorèster Assizes, last w«ek, the five follow- 1 ing prisoners'were capitally convicted, viz, Joseph Saunders, tor bitrgiary, and setting lire to the pr.> misesof Messfsj (Jluttefbuck and Co. of Mmchiii- "Hampton; William Pfarcc, for stealing a bay marc- "t AIoreton-in-Marsh; Thomas Gulweil, ibp steal- 'Jin( ir cloth lirom the racks of Messrs. Ivroin the number of causes at the Nisi P'rius bar, thejjuslftess was notfinished tillSaturday-afternodii. Tuesday the Commission was opened at Here- ford, where there were 10 prisoners for trial, and upwards of 20 causes entered. At the Assizes for Monmouth, where the Commis- sion Wits opened on Saturday evening, and where the singular circumstance occurred of the Hif-h Sheriff entering upon his office for the second year, Henry Paul Harry, .for horse stealing, and John Lewis, for burglary, were found guilty, and sen- tenced to suffer death, but were reprieved before the Judges, lelt town; against Lucy Llewellyn and Elizabeth Powell, for stealing various articles from a dwelling-house, Do bill was found; William Cutt, charged with stealing a considerable sum -in bills and cash, was sentenced to be publicly whipped, for the space of one hundred yards, in the: market, place; and James Phillips, charged with stealing a gander and some-eggs, was acquitted. At Nisi Prius the cases were few and of httle importance. A new-born femaJcinfant, supposed to have been murdered, was found in Wilder-street, Bristol, on Tuesday morning. Last week an inquest was held at Walford, in Herefordshire, on the body of John Bright, -a pau- per of that parish, and a common beggar, who was 0 found dead near his own bouse.—He was supposed very, pour, bnt on examining his house after his death, it. appeared that he had contrived to amass a considerable sum, the greatest part of which was in cash, -sufficient to have.ena.bicd him to live comfortable and independent.—Verdict, Died by the-Visitation qfgoci. There is now in the possession of a person in the neighbotlrbobd of Hereford, a three-years old ewe, of the true Ryland breed, which has brought seven lambs, viz. when a yearling, two, when two years I- 'z .,7 1 old, two, and this, season, three fine lambs, which are likely to do well. Mr. D. Parry, of Chirburv-hall, Salop, has in his possession six ewes, which have brought eigh- teen lambs this year, all hearty and likely to "do well. -Brecon pig fair, on Thursday, was well supplied, but the sale was dull at reduced prices.—Mr. Fry- ar ot Penpont, exhibited a fat pig of a very singular species, which was deemed a great curiosity, and excited the admiration of the dealers.—The follow- ing unfortunate accident' occurred at this fair: A country man having brought a horse to sell, secur- ed by a halter about his head, a bye-stander was persuaded to ride him; but no sooner had the man mounted than thecreature sat off at full speed, knocked down and fell over a poor woman who could not get out of his way, by which she was ve- ry dangerously- bruised; and the rider had his leg broke, besides being otherwise much hurt.- In the confusion, the owner led the animal away, undis- turbed and Unknown, the attention of the people being occupied in takiiig care of t he sufferers, f At Talgarth fair, last weekj the sale of cattle of every description, horses, sheep, and pigs, was ex- ceedingly dull, and the. prices asked extremely low. This "inestimable specific has performed, in the course of a very few months, cures which have excited the utmost astonishment; and it is-to be observed that inj disputable proof has been giyen, th/ltit v.il cure, but can- not injure. Mr. Barnes, otCheadle; Mr. Lowe, of Leek- thepnnter qfthe Staiford now-paper, and many other per- son?, can respectively certif y the truth of the statements of cures which have appeared in this paper. The case stated by Mr.- Barnes, (and which has been nientj^med in this pa- per) of a gentleman who could not hear a olock strike, but who, after using this remedy, could hear the beating of his watch at some distance, is not the most extraordinary- in- stMiceofitsenicacv.
