BARMOUTH. FAREWELL SERMON.—On Sunday even- ing the Rev. E..T Pa,rrv, Waslevan minister, preached his farewe.'l sermon. Mr. Parry has been at Barmouth for five years and has been appointed to take charge of Fi-stiniog circuit. SURVEYORSHIP.—Mr. T. R. Parry, -surveyor to the Urban Council resumed duties on Thursday, after serving in the army for over three yea:-s. ACCIDENTS.-On Thursday Mr. Hugh Jones, Glanyllyn, fractured two of his limbs by falling on Dinas Oleu Hill. On the same day Mrs. Samuel Dilow, Water-street, in- jured her hand owing to a window falling on i". BOWLING TOURNAMENT.—Sixteen com- petitors took part in a bowling tournamew. on the Recreation Ground on Wednesday week. The prizes were won by visitors—Mr. R. Humphreys ê.d Mr. Beard-more. MALE VOICE CHOIR.—On Friday the Male Voice Choir gave a concert a. Fair- bourne Pavilion and were assisted by Miss Mary Evans, Miss Nellie Jones, Messrs Ellis M. Evans, David Isaac Jones Tommy Griffith and Stanley Jones (harpist). Miss Mamie Roberts was accompanist. On Sunday even- ing the Choir gave a benefit concert for Mr. Oriffi h Griffiths, the conductor, in apprecia- tion of his thirty years service. REGATTA.—Through Messrs. Rees Jones and Oswald Armer a regatta on a lairge scale has been arranged. It is over fifteen years since a regatta was previously held in Bar- mo'-th. PWLLHELI. NEW CONSTABLE.-Mr. Emrys Ellis Jones, Grccslon, a, demobilised soldier has been appointed police constable and commenced duties cn Thursday. OBITUARY.—The death took place on Thursday of Miss Jenny Roberts, Llainydelyn, Penrhos. Deceased was 29 years of age and was until recently in the employ of Mr. Caradog Evans. EX.ARMY CHAPLAINS.—The pulpits of Pesmount and Salem C;M. Churches were filled on Sunday by ex-army chaplains, the Rev Albert E. Jones, B.A. (Cynau), preached at Penmount. and Professor D. Morris Jones, at Salem. PERSONAL.—Mr. Rowland Rowlands. Morfa j Llanaelhaiarn. who has been manager of Rivals Sette Quarry for 18 years is retiring-. Mr. Evan Owen, Caenewydd, Pencaenewydd, has been appointee corn claims inspector. MOTOR ACCIDENT.—A party of visitors from Manchester staying at Morwylfa. South Beach met with a motor accident at Bfdvean Hill, on Thursday afternoon. They were pro- ceeding in a hired car from Pwllheli which stopped suddenly /ufearly at the top of the hill. The driver put tl)^ brakes on, and went down to redstart the engine. The brakes gave way and the car ran backward at a high speed, but fortunately turned into the wall before going far. The car ran into the wall, throwing all the occupants into tho road. Some of them were under the car. Mr. H. Williams, received injuries to his head, Mr Andrew Cardin was injured in the head and collarbone, and Mis3 Crowther had her arm fractured. Dr. R. Jones Evans attended to the party. It was at the same f-pct about three years ago that a simular accident occurred to Ncvin Mntwr Omnibus when the driver was killed, and a large number of schoolchildren injured. THE BISHOP AND THE CLERGY.- The Bislicp of Bangor met Lleyn and Eifionvdd clergy in private conference at Pwtlheh. Allan Gougli, C.M.G., C.B.E and D.S.O. of I 'Gelliwig, has been demobilised after five years of re-employrd. war service. Colonel Gough who is deputy lieutenant for Ca*nan'op<;l!irr, J had retired from the regale Army in 1902. During his army service he WM twice wounded and four times mentioned in despatches. In "South Africa while in command of the 1st Bait. R.W.F., he was the first to enter Ladv. -cmi'Jh, and was ma&t. a companion of Distinguished Service Order, in recognition crt his services. On August 7th, 1914 he rejoined the colours and embarked fcer France a few day later for service with General Headquarters. 3rd Edle10n of the B.E.F. After nearly three years a,t the various bases he returned to Eng- land, and after a short period of unemployment was appointed on the War Office Staff. During the period of his re-employment his name has thrice been inentoned in despatches or brought forward for good service, and in 1918 he was made a Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) and 'in 1919 I a Commander of the British Empire Order •(C.B.E.*

BETHESDA. FAREWELL MEETING.—On Wednesday wefik a wide circlo cf friends assembled at the "Congregational Church to show good feeling and appreciation of the services rendered by -.he Rev T. H. Davies to the churches under his charge and the neighborhood. Mr. Davies had been pastor of Bethesda. CCUIM and Tabor churches for the past four years -and worked hard in many difficulties, giving special atteniion to the young. Ho is going to his new sphere of labour—Brynrhiwgaled— with the best wishes of hie churchea for his future success. The Rev. John Davies, Glen- view, Bow Streo. who had been minister of three churches for thirty-five years, presided. The Rev. Mr. Davies acknowledged all the Aind- fiesses shown him, as did a.'so Mrs. Davies and I I Eirwen. The Chairman had received a., a letter from the Rev LI. Morgan, Salem, expressing regret at inability to bo present owing to absence from home on holidays. The ladies of Bethenda made ample preparations for the entertainment of all strangers. All speakers spoke highly of Mr. Davies's sterling character and his good services and wished him future success.

I Festiniog Council. SIR OSMOND WILLIAMS'S DONATION. Fosfiniog Urban Council met on Friday, present, Councillors Richard Jones, J.P. (chair- man), J. Jones (vice-chairman), Miss Brymer, Messrs. D. Williams, L. Richards, D. Jones, Ben T. Jones, T J Williams. D. T. Davies, J. W. Thomas, Owen Jones, Richard Roberts, Joseph Williams T. Ellis, Moy Jones, R. L. Jones, William C. Jones, H. Jones (Bryfdir), E. T. Pritchard, Cadwaladr Roberts, J. Cadj- waladr, Edward Jones (clerk). A vote of sympathy was passed with Mr H. T. Owen and family in their bereavement. Sir A. Osmond Williams sent a donation of £5 5s. towards defraying the cost of entertain- ing local soldiers and sailors. He also asked for the names of members who spoke at the previous meeting which he attended. Sir Osmond was warmly thanked for his donation. Mr D. Williams asked why macadam had been bought at 11s. a ton while stone of better quality could be obtained at a lower price.— It was resolved that the Council should con- sider future purchases. On the recommendation of Mr T. J. Wil- liams, the Council bought a ga& engine from Capt. Lewis Davies, Y Gloch, at £ 25. Nine scholars applied for free entrance to the County School and Seven were granted, and possibly a further vacancy would occur.— It was resolved to leave renewing scholarships in abeyance to enquire into the circumstances of the children's parents, it being said that some cf them could pay for their children's schooling The Council decided not to start evening classes without consulting ministers, eta, as to the advisaibility of doing so. It was stated that-, no reception meeting would be held at Dolgeller as proposed. Mr W. J. Williams wrot.. on behalf of the Town Improvement Committee to be allowed to CT-nvert grass plots on fh.- Park into a bowling green. It was resolved to ask the Surveyor to produce an estimate of the cost of the conversion, there being nothing in the leasa forbidding it. A letter was read on how to avoid profiteer- ing and it was decided to appoint, a select committee to act as Tribunal for the protec- tion rof the public. A letter was read from Mr R. Silyn Roberts apologising for having been unable to attend the meeting and stating that Blaenau would lie made f training centre for discharged dis- abled soldiers. Oakei'ey Slate Quarries Co., who purposes erecting a memorial slab at Dolawel, in metni- ory of the fallen heroes among their employees, submitted a plan which was approved. It was resolved that Mr R. J. Owen, sanitary inspector, having been demobilised, should rosume dutios and to receive his pre-war salary, 35s. a week, p7us 3s. 3d. a day granted the Council's workmen. k It having 'been reported that the postal authorities intend making Blaenau Festiniog a sub.post office to Portmadoc a strong protest was made against so drastic a change. It was also agreed to ask for a better distribution of lr)',ters. The Council objected to putting of the most populous town in Merioneth under a small place like Portmad.«c in another county. It was likewise resolved to apply for the hold. ing of assises and quarter sessions in turn at Blaenau r.n^ to urge the Bench at Penrhyn and Blaenau to support the application. The Council decided to give assistance to all who desired to buy or build houses under the power granted by the Government to advance money. It was decided to ask Mr. Moore, Crown agent, to meet a select committee with a view to acquire Crown land in the district for cul- tivation by discharger soldiers. Six captured German guns have been takrn into the Park, pending the building of a suit, tible locale and the Committee was asked to find places. Festiniog, it was stated, askod for a share of the spoil: that Dclgelley refused ,) have the guns, and that Blaenau woultl accept any rubbish. F. W. Parry, po^t^ry taid Miss Owen was seen by him going on the railway from the Station in the direstiorf tl the Crossing, and he requested her to rettirti. She came back and went through the GcCds Yard, and again proceeded' aVong tho line. He followed and told her that that was nc,t a public fcotway and asked her to come back; but she took no notice and went cn.—Miss Owen denied seeing Parry, but heard talking behind her. People had always pone that way.—In reply to the Bench, defen- dant said she did nat see the notice forbidding people going that way P-Inspector Ridge said there was a large notice board at the end of the platform which Miss Owen passed.—The Bench found that a technical offence had been committed, cautioned the defendant, and dis. iiiissed the action. Inspector Evans summoned Morris Jones, Drws-vr-Ymlid, Harlech, for having assaulted Miss Francis Hooke, visitor.—Miss Hooke said she and her sister losb their way on the moun- ".ain near Harlr^ib; and feeing Jones in a field, asked the way to Harlech. He told trem and then, fiollowing them seized witness and threw her down. Her sister beat him off and he ran away. They did not know the man, and gave information to the police.—Defendant was sent to gaol for a month with hard labour.

OBITUARY.—The death occurred at his home after a brief illness on Saturday of Mr. Edwa.rd Jones joiner, Evans'-terracc, Copper- hill-street. Deceased, who was in ripe old age, was a nativo of Brithdir. Dolgelley and came to reside in Aberdovey about fifty years ago when he was employed by M-. W. Jones Hughcs' father and remained with the same firm to the time of his death. The funeral took place at the Cemetery on Tuesday, the Rev. W. P. Roberts, Welsh Wesleyan pastor, and the Rev. D 0 James, M.A., Flint, officiated. The chief moumera were Mrs. Ann Jones widow; Mr. John Jones Peamaen- pool, brother; Mr. in(I Mrs. Dan Poweii, Mr. and Mrs. Evan Williams, daughters and sons- in-law; and Miss Mary E. He stopper him and found that he was under the inflia ence of drink. He told him that he was no, i a fit state to drive a car. Another car fronj Barmoul came on and he told the chauffeuj that he would allow def<*ndant to go witl him if he would take charge of him, but hi refused, therefore he was locked up and *'h| car was put in a place of safety. The pas| sengers abandoned the car near Rhvd-ddu an<jj telephoned to Barmouth for another carl Mr. Jeffs. defendant's employer, came fo him abou< ten in the evening and took him home.—Defendant, giving evidence, said ha started from BarmoutJi about 10-30 in th mornmg with a par-,y of visitors. When nea Llanbedr a puncture- occurred, and when h was repairing tho car sprang off the jacl suddenly and caught him at the back of th: head. He had not been fee ing well for long "<ime and after that blow he felt verj bad. He went to Llanberis all right am drove back steadily through Carnarvon. H passed six policemen in Carnarvon and wi not stopped. He got one glass of beer boron lunch, one with his lunch, and one af.er h, lnncli, and that was all the drink he toq. that day. On the way near Rhyd-ddu t had trouble wirh his passengers. One, them was an elderly lady not used to moto ing. They asked him to drive slower wliis he did. Some time later they requested hi to pull up and he was most surprised to s them getting out of he car.—In answer Supt. Owen, he said he had to drive in a zig-zi way owing to the bad state of the road. I ml did not argue with the policeman whan i accused him of being drunk. There was t. use in arguing with a policeman. (Laughter. Ho pressed he passengers to re-enter- th! car, but they refused. As far as drink wa concerned he was quite capable to take aharg, of the car but as far as his health waj concerned he had np- been well for Onll time. It was a horribly hot day and he hit been unwell far some time.—Mr. Jeffs sard X had known defendant for the past nine yea; and found him always reliab:e and never sa signs that he was addicted to drink It wr a grea.. shock to him when he heard the ma. was charged with being drunk. When t r found him at Beddgelert Police Station tit man was perfectly steady. The Constab' asked him to sign a receipt for money defendant, and he told the Constable that F would sign when he altered the amount froi £4 tv E3. He was standing at his office do^ and called the attention of his clerk to tr car. He shouted after defendant; but dr fondant took no notice.
