'1 lie first intermediate- school to be opened was that at Carnarvon, and it wn.s Mr Gruffydd's. ntiine t'.wit was first ejitered on the register. He continued to hold the first record, for be waft among the first o be.tch of intermediate scholar* to graduate, and one of the first to gain a scho!ariisip out of the intermediate school: Mr Gruffydd is spending the .summer vacation at his home in I-ethel. On Friday night, the Martinis of Angle- sey entertained the whole Coimalight family io dinner. The.event wa-s of more interest than I imagined at the tLine of the occur- rence, f-ays the London correspondent of the "Daily Dispatch," for J under-itand now that it may be taken as a sign that the Connaugtit fornily have at iasi consented to reeognis;-? the young marouis a-; a suitor for the iiand of the Princest. V.in-n some iliolitit- ago I wrote that events were tending in this direction, and that ui onnoiincenent of a betrofial might oe made in til( autumn, I had reason to know that the whiles of the young couple would eventually prevail over the obstacles to such a Lf'ot!. All the fcrn.alities have not yet lyeen arranged, but T ihmk I <sliall not be pit ved inaccurate by th-* event, if I say that iiie formal statement of a betrothal will not i.ow be long coming. At any rate, it cannot be g<iia.said that the appearance of the C'>n;iaught family at dinner with the Mar piis of Anglesey, whose aspirations for the hand of the Princcs* Patricia have long been notorious, cannot bio be significant. Loi-d Ajighwey is twenty-two, and a general favourite with Royalty and everybody. Mr Albert Victor Grayson, the hero of the political aensation in Colne Valley, spent his early life in Liverpool and served an en- gineering apprenticeship there, where he is weil-know 11 in Socialist circles. His parents reside in Liverpool.. Mr Gray- son is a graduate of Owen's College. He io what is termed an intellectual Socialist, about the most advanced and uncompromis- ing type of Socialist that meaiic. The new member has had varied .experience-. He has been a. stowaway, a tramp, and a mechanic, and obviously he possesses the poeer to ivway men's heart* with his tongue. As to the moral of the event, it was bluntly ex- pressed by a well-known Liberal M.P. The old order of political parties is changing. As with the Whigs, so will it be with the Lihoer als. That historic party is destined to di- vid-e its forces. One section will go over hi th,e Socialist camp; the other must cleave to the party which some day may be known .'8 the Individualists.—Another account sUttes: Mr Giwyson is a young man of 25, slightly built, and clean shaven. His father is a Yorkshireman, and his mother ft tfcotch woman. He says he has passed through every phase of the poverty and suffering incident to the lives of the very poor. "I have endiined," he remarked, ''the suffer- ing of a stowaway iu the fore-peak of a sailing-ship, and a tramp of 280 miles con- sequent upon that through Wales, where I shot in barns, cusual wards, and low lodging-houses, ajid begged my way with a crowd of other tramps."
