I I I C A H Dll< h' EXCUAMUE. BIJTJC DOCKS, Friday. There was a large atteodance on 'Change to- day, and the steam coal market remained firm throughout. Business was interfered with to a considerable extent by the tension which existed in the publia mind in regard to nesvs of the relief of Mafeking. Tonnage is scarce again, but this has not had any effect on coal prices, mainly because large numbers of colliers are declining to work pending news from Mafeking, and also owing to the near appL-oach of the Whitsuntide holidays. The two causes will be responsible for a considerable reduction in the output of the coalfield. Pitwood is rather firmer, one lot of 1,000 tons having been sold at 42q 6d. Even irgher prices are spoken of. Other departmeutu keep about the same. The following were the closing quotations :-Very best Cardiff steam coal, 228 to 23" (for prompt ship- ment); good ordinaries, from 21s Gd other sorts, fron3 20s Gd flrys, 19, to 20s; Monmonth- shires, 20s to 21s seconds, from 18s to 19s (Cardiff shipment) best house coal, 229 to 23s seconds, from 20s No. 3 Rhondda 22s to 23s: throngh-and-througb, 21s to 21s 6d smalls, 18:; 6d to 193; No. 2 Rhondda la rge, 17s 3d to 17" 9;1 through-and-through, 16,¡ 9d smalls, 15s to 16s special small steams, 15s 9d to 16s 6d good ordinaries, from 14s 6d to 15s (¡thAr sorts from 13s 6d.
