The Cardiff and Penarth dock pilots, II riggefs, and boatmen on Wednesday de- cided to come out On strike, having failed to come to an agreement with regard to their demand for a 20 per cent. advance on total earnings and a shorter working week. The above decision was come ilD at a largely-attended meeting of the men held on Wednesday at the Grand Hotel, Car- diff, Mr. A. Barton (National Amalga- mated Labourers' Union) pimiding. A report of the previous day's meeting with the shipowners waoS presented, in whioh it was stated that the latter were not pre- pared to make any offer beyond express- ing readiness to let the matter go to arbi- tration. After hearing the report the Men de- cided to immediately cease work. I A SWANSEA PROTEST The attitude of official Swansea to the railway service was shown at Wednes. day s meeting of the Parliamentary Com. mittee, when it was decided, after some discussion, to end a representative to a conference in London to protest against poor facilities and high fares. There was at once a concensus of opinion that Swansea should support' any s?ch conference, and it was proposed i: that a letter of support be eent. 4 BACKING THE PRESS. '1 Ald. W. Owen protested against th-e matter being dismissed in that way, and Aid. Jordan added that if all public bodies took the same course there would be no conference. = MART TOLLS. I Problem for Llandilo Urban Council. Llandilo Urban Council, Mr. lIy. W. Jones, Sartor House presiding, recom- mended a silght increase in the tolls for sheep at the mart at Ffairfach, and Mr.. D. Morgan drew attention to the need for tolls for those who sold in the streets. The matter as to the charging for horses was referred to the Streets Committee. It was left to the chairman to call a special meeting to fix a date for the hold- ing of the peace celebrations. Mr. D. Morgan said that the 19th of July was an inconvenic-nt date for the town. A letter was read from Mr. G. W. Jenkins with regard to the presentation to Mr. Lloyd George and other projects. —Mr. D. Pritchard Davies moved, and Mr. J. R. Evans seconded, that the com- mittee be called to go into the matter. The Clerk drew attention to the neces- sity of taking steps to get a supply of coal stored in before the winter.—A meet- ing of the local coal authority will be < called.
