WORKINC AND WORRYING,I
WORKINC AND WORRYING, A Double Strain and its After-effects. The strain of worry under which parents, wives and relativns of our fight- ing men were placed, while the casualty lists were growing, is in many cases only bem? felt now. after the war is over. Th&se who had to work bard, and who worried while working, were under a double strain, which exhausted their strength and lowered their vitality. Xow is the time, to get the system back to a health" condition. A tonic that will build up the blood will restore the shat- tered nerves and carry new energy to the distressed stomach. 'Until the system is buiit up there is constaut danger of disease. Dr. Williams' pink pills are £ » valuable tonic, and they enrich the quality of the blood so that it carries abundant; nourishment not only to the nerves, but to every part of the body, thus helping the system to resist disease. Anything in the nature of a mere stimulant should be avoided, t Dr. Williams' pink pills are eminently suitable to restore tone, to dis- pel the effects of worry, and 'to increase the supply of rich healthv blood. They have transformed thousands of sick. com- plaining, irritable, tired and nervous people into ictive., energetic, capable, efficient men and women. They will help I you. too What Dr. Williams* pink pills are ca pable of doing is explained by Mrs. Ellen I Dawes, of 7t, St. Alban-street, Notting- I ham It is now nearly three years," she said. since mv husband sailed for India. and although I bade him farewell with a smile on my lips, an awful sense of loneliness and fear seemed to grip my heart. My I baby was only i few months old, and the daily fret and strain proved inote than I could bear. As a girl I had suffered from aneemia and fainting fit;. but now my weakness I seemed to come back in a far more pain- ful nnd distressing form. My appetite failed, and I endured nights of indescrib- able agony with neuralgia pains in the face and head. Teeth extraction brought no relief, and I bfieame so terribly thin and dispirited that I thought I should never see my husband again. TIofpe of improvement hod almost vanished when I read in the papers about I Tf', Williams' pink pills, and I determined to give them a trial. This was about fix I months aao.. and the result' has been almost miraculous. Thirst they relieved the pains in my head, and it seemed as if the delicate tissues which worry had broken down were being slowly replaced. My appetite returned. and not only did I begin to gain weight, but a colour came into my cheeks and a brightness into my eyes that I hat never possessed in I life before. My sister has also enjoyed improved health since taking Dr. Williams' pink pills, and we would not be without them in the house on anv consideration." Dr. Williams' pink pills are an ideal tonic for all nervous people of both sexes. To-da.v is the best time to begin them. and mind you ask for Dr. Williams'. FREE for the asking. 1-BALDWINS. I-
1- BALDWINS. CaRital for Fresh Extensions. The adjourned annual general meeting of Baldwins (Limited) was held at Bir- mingham on Thursday, Col. J. R. Wright (the chairman) presiding. The Chair- man, after apologising for the absence of Mr. Roger Beck and Sir Richard V. Vassar-Smith, Bart., said that the direc- tors were gratified with the manner the company had come through the trying- period of the war, and were confident the shareholders would consider it satis- factory that the last.year of the struggle left them with a proti t of 2" .45.293. After the payment of the dividend for last year at the rate of 28. 4<1. per sha-re, free of tax, ■> the net re6ult was that 5:273,4-42 was being carried forward. NEW WORKS. I With regard to the progress made with the new works, there had been many factors making for delay. The smelting department was finished and equipped up with four furnaces; part of the rolling plant was now being I f erected; the coke ovens and blast tui [ naces were attaining completion, and in all probability be ready by the end of the year. The subsidiary companites were doing good work. They were the sole owners of all the ordinary shares of tho Brymbo Steel Company and the whole of the shares of the Port Talbot Steel Com- pany. Having a-cquired the whole of the Brymbo ordinary shares, the company was, in fact, now the sole owners of the Oxfordshire Ironstone Company, who had finished their railway and were delivering ore, a considerable quantity of which had been proved at the Landore blast furnaces with satisfactory reaults. INCREASE OF/CAPITAL. I- Having referred to the ungrudging ser- vices of the staff during the war. Col. Wright mentioned that 93 of the com- pany's employes had been killed in the war and many wounded, and concluded with an expression of sympathy with the family .of the late Mr. S. L.' Dore, a former director. On the motion of the chairman, se- conded by Mr. E. L. Evan-Thomas, the report was adopted. At an extraordinary general meeting, which followed, the Chairman moved, i resolution increasing the capital of rh" company by the creation of 3,000,000 B prpference shares of £ 1 each. He snid the further extensions and increased activities of the company, necessitated the provision of additional capital. BRITISH STEEL CORPORATION. I Dúring 1918 Mr. R. Tilden Smith, before he became a director of the company, bad arranged to form the British Steel Cor- poration, which was to hold ^various im- portant interest, near the company's works in South Wales. On the recommen- dation of the independent directors it was ultimately decided by the board that it was important in the interests of Baldwins to acquire the whole of the interests of the other partners of the British Steel Corporation, which included a process and' patent rights for the treatment of inferior and lower grade iron ore and pyrites? for the purpose of manufacturing pig iron, and the Britonferry Ironworks, together with the purchase of a contract for a large quantity of pyrites on most favourable terms. Land and minerals belonging to Lord Jersey worth Xlr)0,000 were also in- cluded. Money was also required for the development of a valuable and important property which, had been acquired at Toronto,. Canada. THE NEW ISSUE. It was proposed to issire 1,000,000 5 per cent, cumulative preference shares, tax free up to 6s. in the C, which would cover the additional developments already re- ferred to. In view of the difficulty of in- creasing the number of this class of shares at a future dalje, the directors considered it prudent to submit a pro- posal for the creation of 93,000,000 to meet whatever might be considered de- sirable later on. The motion was seconded by Mr. Evan- Thomas, and unanimously agreed to.
