By an unfortunate coincidence all ttle leading clubs in the West will tomorrow be playing away fromt home. The most important Itttbÿ game in tbe"-e pårtbi wili therefore b* that between Pontoxdawe and Treherbert, in the Svvanse* Valley The Swans go to Northampton, an<\ strangely enough, Leicester, who wero here last week, wil be ueetmg the Cobblers the sauu aftr ruoon. Thib clashing of interest £ w regrettable, and it is also pity ttitt th All Whites and the Swans should be Oil. of town the same afternoon. Swansea, ilanelly and Neatli will be in the East, tile Scarlets and All Blacks being both cooked for Newport. Llanelly should 00 able to account for fill Harriers; hot what a pity it is that the opposition does not come from New- A elash between the Scarlets and I thfl kmb6t and iflacka would be tkd event bt the season, for both are unbeaten. As it is the visitors to the Bodney Parade I tiB be Neath, whose chances of winning are remote, to say the least. I THE CARDIFF MATCH. I Wheri the All Whites played at Car- I iiif in February, 1914, they were un. tucky to lose by a try to nil. The game took place in a deluge of rain, and a feature of it was the great display given by Dai Williams, deputiaing Jack BaD 1 croft at full-back. This season Cardiff have suffered a succession of defeats, the teams to overcome them being Bristol, ) Newport, Swansea LlaneUy and Blaea i Heath. It will be recalled that the Citiasns, when they played at St. Helen's last week, were beaten by dropped goal j irom the foot or Joe Rees, who was mak- ing his debut for Snunfeea at full-back, i Un the run of the nay they did not de Aerve to lose. Both the Swansea and Car-j diff teams are stiii in the experimentaJ j stage. The All Whites' weakness hf\8 j been at three-qua i ter, aud r6si:s»ng this tli.a Selection Committee deferred picking j the four until T hursday. Cardiff had big discouragement the other day, when 1 Caswell, their inside-half, went North. i They have not yet found a reliable euc-j cessor, for Cogiia has been dropped, and I was jfcyt of much (Consequence at J Llanelly. Swansea have the better re-1 v cord, and with their forwards playing so well, they ought to win. A Cardiff col- league warns me to be prepared for a I surprise; and I am passing the hint along for what it is worth. IN THE VALLEY. Pontardawe frill be at home to-morrow to Treherbert, one of the crack combina- tions of the iihondda Valley. When the teuins met earlier in the season at Trtj- herbert the result was a draw. To-mor- row's game is being looked forward to with rtitereat in Pon tarda we, and the homesters, who nave shown improved form lately, are out for a win on this occasion. The team selected tor Pontar- daws is as follows:—Full-back, Johnny lJavieN; Cliree-quarters, Trevor Jones, W. Kitt. Hurry Jenkins, P. C. Ford; halt- bac, GWllym Jenkins, Gilbert Da vies; norwards, Graham Morgan, Liew. The im- proved performance of the Swans in the ifist five matches (write* Cygnet "), augur well for their further success a Northampton. If any weakness at ai; v ul be found on Saturday one ieela that k will not be with the defence, for as the goal average shows Swansea Town'6 rearguard ilS among the best iu the South- ern League. Much dejiends upon the re- sult, for a victory to the Swans would place them in a happy position on the Southern League iadoer. Nortliampton, on the other hand, are at the bottom oi the table, and a victory for them will not very materially affect their position. The Swansea Town team will be found in another column. I The case Weir, the Swansea player, j ".s comidr*v>,d hv th tunc recti *w com- J mittee of the football Association of j Wales (Mr. S. H. Nicholls presiding) at Cardiff on Thursday. The question was aa to which club had first claiw. to Weir —Reading or Swansea. Weir was originally a professional with Plilbam, and transferred by that club to Swansea, in the season 1911-12, and played for Swansea until the present season, when I13 signed forms for Reading. At later date he signed for Swansea. The player attended, thd meeting, and stated that he signed for Swansea under the impres- sion that his signature for Reading was out of order. The committee found that Reading had a prior claim tc the player, and the registration with the i^tball Association of Wales for Sw-n- sea was canoelled. I THURSDAY'S RESULTS. A boxing match of considerable inter- j eet took place at the Holbora Stadium on j Thursday night, the principals being; t Johnny Basham, the welter-weight charn- < ion of Great Britaih, and Matt Wells, I the former light-weight champion, who wero matched to box twenty (three-min- ute) rounds. The men had met on two previous occasions, Wells winning at Swansea in 1912, wwIe in the return en- gagement at the London Opera House Basham was successful. Both being skii- ful exponents, everything pointed to a ) fine struggle, and a capital company as- sembled. Prior to the contest, Beekett and Car- pen tier, who will meet on December 4th, for the heavy-weight championship of Europe, were introduced, and met with I a great reception as they shook hands. WELLS ALL OUT. When Wells and Basham stood tip for the first round Basham was half a head taller thaii Wells, who carried far too much flesh. The opening exchanges were not of a very inspiring description, for there was far too much holding in the earlier rounds. Basham, who was onop I cautioned for hitting low, got home one or two straight lefts, but more than once Welia made him miss with the right. After that, however, boxing improved, and there was a lot, of clever work by both men. Wells got home three fine lefts in the third round, but Basham did the eame thing in the ne)kt and levelled matters. He was boxings well within -I himself, while Wells seemed to be going i all our. In the -3Lxth round a cut, which I Wells had opened over Baaham.s right I eye in the third round, began to bleed I freely, and twice Wells tanded freely I with a left hook, which steadied Basham, SOME FINE BOXING. I The eighth was a fine round. providing I a lot of fine box.ng bv both men. They ex- changed left and right ingraltt style, and bet1* Wfcre cleviw h After thAt Basham boxed bettor than ever, and tan up a sequence of points in the eleventh with straight lefts and two splendid up- per outs. As the eontest proceeded thcro was not much prolonged holding, and while Wells boxod well he was always a little behind the other. The Welsh- man, indeed, was very clevor, boi-I oft"" tack and defence. WINNER PUNISHED. In the sixteenth Wells crowded in P- lot of fine work with his left hand, shoot- ing it home straight and hard to the fade, and at other times bringing off a great hook. Indeed this was one of Wells's best rounds. The effort, however, waS not sus- tained. Wells did a lot of holding and leaning on his man, and was at length cautioned. In the eighteenth roand Basham received a nasty cut over the left eye, and was handicapped by 'the blood. Basham continued to box well- and in the end the re»«J* » win fos Basham on points.
