SERIOUS CHARGE AGAINST A PONTYCYMMER TRUSTEE. George Brammar, collier, Pon^ycymmer, was charged with uttering two forged cheques, value dei0 and £23. the property of the Garw Vychan Sick Fund.—Mr. T. J. Hughes, who prosecuted, said defendant was one of two trustees of the Garw Vychan Sick Fund. Defendant and his co- trustee were appointed trustees to the fund in September last. The rules of the society provided for the investment oL such funds as were not required for immediate use. The savings of the little club, amounting to Z 18 or £ 20, were in- vested on deposit at the National Bank of Wales > (Limited), but on the 5th January of this year the deposit note was cashed and further monies were paid in to a current account, in the names of de- fendant and his co-trustee, at the Bridgend Branch of the Bank of Wales. On March 5. defendant called at the bank in Bridgend and cashed a cheque for £ 10, which purported to be signed by himself and his co-trustee, William Davies. On March 29 defendant went to the agent of the Bank of Wales at Pontycvmmer, and endeavoured to draw out £2R. but producing a cheque which was not signed by his co-trustee, the clerk told him he could not have it without getting the cheque signed by Mr. Davies. On the following day prisoner went down to the bank at Bridgend, and produced a cheque which purported to be signed by his co-trustee, and received the amount, viz. £ 23. That made a total of £ 33 received by the prisoner out of the funds of the club. At that time the club only had £ 33 6s. Id. Prisoner then absconded, and had not been seen since until arrested by the police at Tredegar. Mr. Davies would go into the box, and swear that he had not signed those cheques nor authorised Brammar or anyone else to use his name.-The Bench expressed a desire that the further hearing of the case be adjourned owing to the late hour, and Mr. Hughes acceding prisoner was remanded for seven days.—Mr. Hughes said he did not know whether any application would be made for bail, but if it was he should strongly oppose it.—Mr. Superintendent Thomas said that the police had been chasing prisoner all over the country at Leeds, Birmingham, and other places, and also said he should object to bail.-The Chairman said no bail would be allowed, and the prisoner was then removed.
