BARRY AGAIN TO THE FRONT. W12 are pleased to record the fact that the Barry f.district is to be honoured this year by the Federated Chambers of Trade, which body propose to hold their annual meeting at the Royal Hotel on the first day of June. With those who feel interested in the future prosperity of this rising district, we think that the visit of the Federated Chambers of Trade will do much to help Barry in its onward march, and we feel sure that the residents of this district, and more 'especially the business portion of the community, will do all in their power to assist the Barry and District Chamber of Trade in making the visit as successful as possible. Much depends upon the impression made on June the 1st, upon the business minds of those who will assemble here, and all should work with a will in making that impression1 a lasting and beneficial one to this district. Of one thing our local Chamber of Trade can rest assured, the Barry Company—we feel confident in saying so -will do all they can to help the district, not only on that particular day, but at all times. But a few words respecting the questions to be discussed at this annual meeting of the Federated Chambers of Trade. The question of Railway Rates naturally occupies a prominent position on the agenda, of those whose very existence is dependent upon the facilities in every respect afforded of placing various commodities upon the market. All will admit that there is scarcely any question which has caused so much agitation as that of the railway rates. B trry has taken up a very prominent position in that agitation, and the Chamber of Trade have done all they can in this question, the action taken by them having entailed heavy expenses. Although the motion on the agenda, originates in the Aberearn Chamber of Trade we think the general body of members will find many gentlemen in the Barry district capable anI willing to assist in dis- cussing with them the best means of dealing with this question. The Barry Chamber of Trade is well to the front, and has placed several important questions on the agenda for discussion The need of better facilities to get from the colliery districts to the seaboard" is a question which affects a much larger area than the Barry dis- trict, which, of course, is adjacent to the sea. On every hand the necessity of these better facilities has been felt, and is not B irry at the present time agitating and impressing upon the railway companies that at present there is no direct means of communication for passengers, from this part of the coast to the colliery districts. The Federated Chambers are alive to the fact that every district will benefit by the railway companies affording them increased facilities for inter-communication. Barry, again, raises the question of the import and export trade facilities in South Wales. In many respects South Wales is behind other parts of the United Kingdom in this re- spect, and not only will B-trry, a,3 a port, benefit considerably by any steps taken in this direc- tion, but the whole of South Walea would feel the effect in a beneficial mariner. With regard to the question of the need of better communication from South Wales to London," much has been said and written in the past. On every hand it is admitted that the communication now provided between South Wales and London is not what it should be, and the various Chambers of Commerce have repeatedly touched upon the question. Nothing has come from the promises niade, on paper, from the Post Office Department, but it is new stated that the claims made for better postal facilities are so strong that nothing can be
