INrTHE STRANDED SHIP VANDUARA…
Nr THE STRANDED SHIP VANDUARA OFF BARRY. EFFORTS TO FLOAT THE VESSEL. During the past two or three weeks gangs of men employed by the Barry Graving Dock and Engineering Company have been engaged tempo- rarily repairing the large iron ship Vanduara, which is lying ashore on the rocks off Barry Island, having ran ashore during a gale. On Monday evening and Tuesday morning last efforts were made to float her, but on both occasions without avail, as she shipped more water than could be pumped out. It was determined, there- fore, to fix another pump on board, and a further attempt to get her off will probably be made to-day (Thursday) in order to bring her round to Barry Graving Dock for repairs. The unfortunate boat lies in a dangerous position, and her running gear are in a threatening condition, but if the present calm weather continues it is expected she will be towed round into dock in safety. THE SHIP SUCCESSFULLY FLOATED. Another attempt was made on Wednesday even- ing's tide to float the ship Vanduara, which had gone ashore off Barry Island. Three tug s were brought into requisition, and before high water the vessel was successfully towed off the rocks. She lay overnight on the sands in Whitmore Bay, and was brought round on Thursday morning to the Barry Graving Dock for complete repairs. The engineering skill with which the Barry Graving Dock and Engineering Company have surmounted the difficulties which lay in the way of the removal of the ship from her dangerous position is generally commented upon.
