THE FORTHCOMING LABOUR DEMONSTRATION AT BARRY. THE TRADES' AND LABOUR COUNCIL DIS- CUSS THE ARRANGEMENTS. A special meeting of the Barry Trades' and Labour Council was held on Friday evening last at the Victoria Hotel, Barry Dock, for the purpose of making arrangements in view of holding a grand labour demonstration in the Barry district during the second week in May. The chair was occupied by the president, Mr T. S. Thomas, and amongst those in attendance were Messrs Fred Walls (vice-president), W. W. Fookes, W. P. Clark (secretary), Morris Jones, T. Griffiths, S. Rendell, Shepherd, and J. Cook. Letters were read by the secretary from a number of prominent gentlemen who had kindly promised to be present at the demonstration and to take part in the proceedings. Amongst these were Mr Arthur J. Williams (M.P. for South Glamorgan), Mr J. H. Wilson, M.P., Mr E. Harford (general secretary of the Railway Servants' Society), Mr J. Curle (Carpenters and Joiners' Society, and president of the Bristol Trades' Council), and Mr H. Slatter, J.P, (general secretary of the Typographical Association).-On the motion of Mr Clark, seconded by Mr Shepherd, it was resolved to hold the demonstration on Mabon's Day, Monday, the 7th of May and it was further decided that a con- ference be held at the Victoria Hotel in the after- noon, at 2.30, followed by a public m eting at the Iddesleigh-hall, Cadoxton, at 7.30 in the evening. Collections to be made at the different lodges affiliated with the council for the defrayal of the expenses. Messrs Shepherd, Fookes, Morris Jones, Randell, Wheaten, Brown, Murray, with the president and secretary were appointed a com- mittee to carry out the arrangements on the demonstration day; and voting by ballot was taken as to whether Mr E. Harford, of the Railwaymen's Society, or Mr F. Fox, of the Boilermakers' Society, should be chairman on the occasion, a majority of votes being recorded in favour of Mr Harford.
