Juvenile Cigarette Smoking. Flintshire County Council are in entire sympathy with the movement for the sup- pression of cigarette smoking by juveniles. 0 The Rev. T. Mardy Rees remarked at their meeting the other day, that they should cultivate public opinion against this wretched practice. He bad been in the habit of enjoy- ing his pipe, but seeing the children smoking so much he had been obliged to make up his mind to sacrifice the pipe in order to be an example to the little ones. Dr Humphrey. Williams said that smoking ] 0 had a most damaging effect upon health, and most heavy smokers suffered from heart dis- orders before they were 50 years of age.

Prestatyn v. Abergele. The return game between these great rivals was played at Abergele on Saturday in boisterous weather, and before a large crowd. R. Jones failed to turn out, and at the last moment Prestatyn had to call upon the services of Jim Jones. Mr Miers, of Cplwvn Bay, was late in putting in an appearance, and it was some twenty minutes late when Prestatyn faced their opponents in the follow- ing order: Goal, W. Glass; backs, Jack Jones and J. T. Williams halves, D. G. Jones, Bell Jones, and T. Brooks forwards, R. Hughes, E. Holbrook, G. Glass, Jim Jones, and L. Watts. J. T. Williams won the toss, and took advantage of the strong wind. The game opened very fast and even, and it was soon evident that the visitors were in for a rough game. The visitors pressed, and after seven minutes' play R. Hughes completely beat the home custodian with a fast low shot. Aided by the strong wind, the visitors continued to have all the best of matters, but their for- wards were very weak in front of goal. Hereabouts D. G. Jones was badly fouled, and the game had to be stopped, W. Jones (Will Tai) being cautioned by the referee. The Prestatyn forwards continued to dally about in front of goal, and several opportu- nities were allowed to slip. Towards the interval, Abergele attacked and W. Jones fouled J. T. Williams badly, but the referee took no notice and Moss Jones got clean away, sending in a lovely centre, which Glass was making to fist away when he was simply rushed into the net, and the bail dropped into the corner of the goal. Half-time Abergele 1 goal, Prestatyn 1. An adequate description of the second half is out of the question, several of the Abergele players having to be cautioned. Prestatyn defended splendidly, and kept the Abergele- ities out, whilst the forwards worked several openings, but failed to take advantage of them. Final result: Abergele 1, Prestatyn 1. Had there been a more strict referee in command, it is probable that. not only would several Abergele players have been turned off, but their ground would have run the risk of being closed. E. Mostyn and E. Williams were the pick of the homesters, and the less said abnnt the others the better. For Prestatyn Glass kept a capital goal. Jack Jones and Joe Williams played well throughout the game, the halves also being in great form. Of the forwards R. Hughes and Holbrook were the pick, although Jim Joues played a plucky game and passed well. Watts was badly kicked early in the game, and was afterwards off colour. G. Glass worked some fine openings, but nulified them by keeping the ball too long. Had Abergele played the game, Prestatyn would, no doubt, have repeated their previous win.

1Íi8o- COUNCIL MEETING. (Continued from Page 3). BASTION ROAD IMPROVEMENTS: NOT YET STARTED. Mr Parry Williams drew the attention of the Council to the fact that at a recent meeting it was arranged to put Bastion Road in order, and also to make a footway on one side. The work was to be completed by Easter, but as yet no start had been made, and if the work was to be done in time they would have to commence immediately. The same remarks applied to the ladies' cloak rooms which were to be ready for the same time. Mr Peter Ellis having remarked that a fotart had been made that day to cart material from the quarry for this work. The Chairman said that the reason the work had not been commenced was that they had been changing their surveyor, but the matter would be gone on with now. APPOINTMENT OF OVERSEERS. It was mentioned that Mr T. B. Griffith wished to resign the position of overseer, having served in that capacity for three years. Mr Peier Ellis also declined the office for the «.ame reason. Thereupon Mr Scott proposed and Mf I/mnell seconded, that Capt. Muler be appointed. The Chairman proposed that Rev. F. Jewell and Mr Williams (Roslyn) be appointed. This being duly seconded, the three above-named were elected. MISCELLANEOUS. It was decided to serve notice on owners of land in Sandy Lane and Meliden Road, calling upon them to put their hedges in order. It was arranged to communicate with Mr Jennings, pointing out that his sign in High 11 Street projected, thereby obstructing the light from a public lamp. ZD A sub-committee was deputed to inspect and report on the proposal of Mr Horsfall with regard to the extension of the boundary 0 of his property on the hillside. The Railway Company have been commu- nicated with, asking when they intend to place the views of Prestatyn in the carriages. Mr Peter Ellis urged that something should be done with regard to the Cut, but he was reminded that the clerk was already in com- munication with Mr Grimsley on the matter. On the proposition of Mr Linnell, Mr Scott was heartily thanked for the effioient way he had acted as temporary Town Clerk. It was pointed out that the next meeting of the Council fell on Easter Monday, and as it seemed to be the general desire of the members to observe the holiday, it was decided that the meeting be called for another day in that week. This being the final gathering of the Council before the election, the meeting ended with mutual expressions of the hope that they would all meet again.

Temperance Meeting. The monthly meeting of the adult branch of the C.E.T.S. was held in the Church Room on Monday night, when there was a good gathering. The Vicar presided, and the speakers included Miss Howe, Miss Blodwen Jones, and Rev. 1,1. Williams (Dysertb). Very earnest aud practical addresses were delivered, and a vote of thanks to those who touk part concluded a most successful meeting.

NEWMARKET EXTENSION. Opposition from the C.C. Discussing the proposed Newmarket exten- sion of the PrAstatyn-Dyserth Railway at the annual meeting of the Flintshire County Council held last week, the bridge which the Commissioners had disallowed at the inquiry came under notice. Mr Elwy Williams said that the Company were so excited over the Mid-Flintshire Railway scheme that they were moving heaven and earth to put any bar to its being carried out. He hoped they would fail. There would be that afternoon a private meeting near Chester of several gentlemen belonging to the County Council and a gentleman from London, when the Mid-Flintshire scheme would proceed a step further. The Clerk and himself attended the local inquiry at Prestatyn. The Commissioners were under the umbrella of the railway company, who took them in to lunch, and all the rest of it, but the County Council representatives were not allowed to go with them. Everybody at the inquiry except the railway company's officials admitted that the bridge was needed. Mr A. M. Ralli said that a bridge was really needed for the safety of the public, but he hoped that the scheme would not be abandoned rather than that a bridge should be built. This little branch was practically neglected for 39 years, and was only taken up again when the Mid-Flintshire scheme was brought forward. It was finally decided to press the Board of Trade for a bridge, but no expense was to be incurred in doing so.
