GEOLOGY (continued). The shale contained numerous calamite stems and other plant remains, and traces of am 11 bivalves. The beds dipped to the N.N.W. at 50o aud were found, in a continuation of the 180 yard level in the Talargoch vein, to extend for 150 yards without a change. The same fault was met with in the other levels, aud its direction was about W. 10o S. to E. 10o N. The Chert Beds were much thinner than near Gronant, for in the Vale of Clwyd they thin out completely. In the 180-yard level, sulphuretted hydrogen was given off so copiously, in the South end, as to affect the eyes of the miners. GLACIAL BEDS.—The whole of the low ground and the flatter parts of the high ground are overspread by boulder clay, sand and gravel of the glacial age. The rock feature against which the drift is banked is of sufficient steepness to be called an inland •cliff. It runs from Gronant to Prestatyn, Talargoch, Dyserth, Moel Hiraddug and Cwm mountain up the Vale of Clwyd. One of the best drift-deposits in the district was provided in the Walker shaft at Talargoch, 200 yards from the limit of the drift, where the limestone rises in the cliff of Graig-Fawr. The following beds were passed through Glacial beds— Feet Ins Soil 1 6 Marl and clay. 21 0 Dry sand 10 6 Quicksand 3U 0 Strong Clay. 6 0 Gravel 24 0 Gravelly clay, with water 80 0 Sand and Gravel. 86 0 Gravel, containing bones. 12 0 Carboniferous Rocks 597 0 768 0 Another section of Talargoch gave the following result-Glacial beds Feet. Vegetable mould 2 Clay 78 Sand and Gravel, with pebbles of copper, lead ore, horns, teeth and bones. 204 284 Another shaft, half way between Meliden and Prestatyn, 150 yards from the limestone slope of Carreg-y-Fran, all Glacial Beds:— Clay and Stones 21 Red Clay 12 Grav6l 27 Dark Stiff Clay 27 Clean Sand 86 Stony Clay and Mud. 48 Moist Sand (not bottomed) 83 + 204 The Gronant mine, 160 feet above the sea level, the sections are:- feet Vegetable mould. 2 Clay, mixed with some sand and rolled stones 78 Gravel beds, containing rolled pieces of lead, of all sizes 24 104 The various depths below Ordnance Datum at which the rock surface has been struck at Walker Shaft, East Talargoch, and Prestatyn borehole, are 41, 24 x, 54 feet, respectively and the height of surface above Ordnance Datum are 130, 180, 16 feet, respectively. It appears from these figures that the rock- suiface has a gentle seaward slope, as might have been expected. (TO be contimted).

Ruthin v. Prestatyn. Prestatyn journeyed to Ruthin on Saturday to play the return match with the local club. Prestatyn Were without Jack Jones and Hol- brook, their places being taken by Pryce ':I Jones and R. Jones, and the whole eleven shuffled into the following positions :—Goal. W. Glass backs, J. T. Williams and Pryce Jones; halves, R. Jones, T. Brooks, and D. G. Jones forwards, L. Watts, Jim Jones, R. Hughes, Bell Jones, and G. Glasa. Mr Lewis, of Rhyl, had charge of the players. The first half was all in favour of the visitors, but the Prestatyn forwards again kept up their reputation for missing chancea in front of goal. The visitors' custodian had little or nothing to do and the interval arrived with a clean sheet. Early in the second half Ruthin opened the scoring, but Prestatyn quickly equalized and pressed heavily, but time after time grand openings were simply thrown away. Just before the close, when a division of points seemed certain Ruthin broke away and scored, Prestatyn being beaten by 2 goals to 1. Glass had little work to do in goal, being well covered by J. T. Williams and Pryce Jones both of whom played a splendid game. D. G. Jones was the pick of the halves, his tackling being very fine. Of tha forwards Bell Jones played a rattling game but again the forwards were the weak part of the Prestatyn team. When will our forwards learn that their good play is simply useless (and that of the rest of the team) if they cannot shoot goals ? In order to secure second place in the League table Prestatyn must take one point oct of the Guild on Saturday.

The Thursdays Again. On Thursday the Thursday team their officials, and supporters, together with the cup and medals, were photographed at the Hillside Studio. All wishing to procure a photo of our gallant cup-winners should at once give their order either at the Studio or to Mr D. J. Davies the Hon. Sec. The same afternoon a match was played on the Marine Road ground between the Thurs- days and the Old Boys. The Thursdays did not reproduce their Easter Monday form, but the weak Old Boys team played a hard game. After keeping level with their more ex- perienced opponents for an hour the Old Boys had to retire beaten by three clear goals scored by P. Hughes, Madden, and J. Bennett. On the Thursdays' side J. Roberts, Alf Jones, J. W. Jones, W. Davies, and P. Hughes were the pick, whilst for the Old Boys, B. Davies, T. H. Jones, and J. Roberts did good service. Humphreys (Trainer) and Baden were not up to their usual good form.

SCRAPS. The following Jones' have figured in the Prestatyn team during the last two seasons. How about forming a team out of them as follows: Goal Jim Jones, backs Jack Jones and Pryce Jones, halves D. G. Jones, Bell Jones and R. Jones (Meliden), forwards W. Jones, D. W. Jones, Lovey Jones, W; Rath- bourne Jones, and W. Jones (Mostyn). Anyway we should have one International in r it. It is proposed to have a Dinner, in honour of the cup-winning Thursdays and the (we hope) running-up Saturdays. A Thursday League is sadly needed 111 this District. Will any local footballer, take the matter up ? ;■ Bfft .,rdayl;,s will be held early in May. Two certain members of the local clubs journeyed to London to see the cup final. Almost the first person they met was a former f playing member of the Prestatyn Football Club. Truly the world is very small. I, Bell Jones is now the only Prestatyn I forward that remembers that a forward should 4 | shoot. Jim Jones is improving, and with more I practice should make a good man. ¡ 1 Holbrook and Watts were hurt at Rhyl on Easter Monday bat are both recovering.
