CONSERVATIVES AT MOSTYN HALL. Some hundreds of ladies and gentlemen, workers in the Conservative cause in Flint- shire (including several from Prestatyn), assembled at Mostyn Hall on Saturday after- noon, at the invitation of Lord Mostyn, to meet Mr Harold Edwards, the Conservative candidate for Flintshire. In the first place the guests partook of tea in a large marquee, and afterwards strolled about the beautiful grounds surrounding the fine old mansion. At five o'clock a meeting was held opposite the terrace at the side of the mansion. Lord Mostyn presided, supported by Mr Harold Edwards, Mr P. P. Pennant, Mr J. Lloyd- Price, and other leaders of the party in the county. Lord Mostyn spoke on the House of Lords question, declaring that the peers would be the last people to sign their own death warrant, and Mr Edwards dealt with Socialism and its relation to existing rights in property.

PARLIAMENT TO FIGHT THE DRINK TRAFFIC. In the course of a letter written to the annual Conference of the Baptist Union of Wales, Mr Lloyd George said that the next session of Parliament will. in the main. be devoted to two questions which Wales at the general election placed in the forefront of its programme—namely, religious equality in schools and temperance. The drink traffic has within my political memory beaten two great Administrations. Next year Liberalism means to try conclusions with it for the third time. Drink will, as in the past, enjoy the full and effective alliance and support of the ecclesiastical orders and their friends."

TRACTION ENGINE FALLS OVER LLANRWST BRIDGE. On Monday evening an alarming accident occurred on the Llanrwst Bridge, which spans the Conway opposite the Victoria Hotel. A motor traction engine, the property of Messrs Bott and Stennett, contractors, London, who are contractors for the aluminium works at Dolgarrog, was being driven in the direction of Llanrwst. On it were seated the driver (William Peers), a stoker, and two navvies. The night was exceedingly dark, and on emerging from Gwydyr Avenue into the light of the hotel on the opposide side, the driver mistook the wall, which curves off the end of the bridge, on the south side, for the centre of the road. There being a sharp gradient, extra speed was put on, and before he was aware of his error the vehicle had dashed into the wall, carrying it bodily away. Turning a complete summersault the engine fell into the river bed twenty feet below. The stoker and two navvies jumped on to the road, but the driver jumping sideways with his charge landed about ten feet below on the river bank. He received a slight injury to his leg.

Is Leisure Sinful? No, leisure is not sinful. Everybody admits this to a certain extent. No matter what the hurry of life may be, one cannot always be working, but the alternative to work with some people is energetic play. It is not leisurely occupation to race over the country in motor-cars, and to play golf at the rate of three rounds a day. There are still a few who are leisurely in their hours of freedom, but what about the old life of leisure ? It used to be thought that such a life was innocent and admirable, and that good fruit might come of it. But nowadays the man who dues nothing but meditate and observe and write a little, is a man con- demned by the ordinary opinion of society.

A Steady Fire. The other day I was discussing with a friend the cause and effect of the" dear coal scare. He was much alarmed, for dear coal means dear gas, and, as he uses gas almost exclusively, it meant a serious addition to his weekly expenditure. I am only thankful," he said, I- I haven't still got the cook I brought from home when I was first married. She was a splendid servant, but she did'nt know anything about gas to cook with, so when I first moved into my flat I went to the kitchen with her to explain about the range. I lit the burners, but while explaining, a message called me from the kitchen, and I left. her, saying, I think you will find that it will work alright now, Martha.' I didn't see the cook again for four or five days. then happen- ing to go into the kitchen I said, ,\V ell. Martha, how's the range doing ?' To my utter consternation, she replied, 'Deed, sir, that's the best stove I ever did see. That fire what you lit for me four days ago is still a-burning, and it ain't even lowered once."
