CONTROL OF THE SHORE. Prestatyn Council & Lady McLaren. Correspondence so far Futile. The question of the control of the foreshore has occupied the attention of the Council for a considerable period, and many efforts have been made to come to terms with Lady McLaren. Recent events compelled the Council to re-open the matter, and at the conclusion of last month's meeting the Council went into committee, and a communication was read from Lady McLaren in reply to the Clerk's letter asking her ladyship to hand over full control of the foreshore so as to enable the Council to make byelaws to regulate bathing. Her ladyship stated she would be glad to give the Council permission for this season to enforce regulations on the foreshore as would conduce to the safety and convenience of the public, and which might be mutually agreed upon, and would be happy to consider a request from the Council to renew such permission from year to year. After discussion, it was resolved that the Clerk be directed to reply, and to state that the Council regretted they could not accept her ladyship's terms, as the Local Govern- ment Board must approve of the byelaws that may be made in regard to bathing, and it is doubtful whether such approval would be given unless the foreshore would be leased to the Council for a reasonable number of years. At a meeting of the Road Committee on the 27th ult., a reply to the above was read from Lady McLaren in which her ladyship stated that she had already written to express her desire to co-operate with the Council in taking steps to protect bathers, but the Council had not as yet sent her any suggestions as to this. When her ladyship heard what the Council proposed to do, she would be in a position to consider the matter, and decide what could be done to meet the wishes of the Council. After discussion it was resolved that the Clerk be directed to reply, and to remind her ladyship that in the letter of the 21st instant, a suggestion was made that a lease of the foreshore for a term of ten years was essential to enable the Council to make byelaws for regulating the bathing. If her ladyship was willing to grant a lease for the period named, the Council would be prepared to meet her ladyship in any reasonable conditions which may be asked. The minutes recorded that at a committee meeting on the 10th inst, a further letter was read from Lady McLaren, and the Clerk had replied thereto. The contents of neither of these letters has been divulged, and the matter now stands—as far as has been made known—that a reply is awaited to the Clerk's last letter.

OTHER MEN'S METHODS. Council in Relation to Neighbouring Authorities. Prestatyn's Future Needs. A deputation of the Prestatyn Council attended the annual meetings of the Urban Councils Association held recently at Wal- lasey. At Monday's Council meeting Mr T. Parry Williams asked for the delegates' report, and in reply Mr Inglefield stated that all the Councillors had already been supplied with a voluminous report of the whole proceedings, and he hardly expected they wanted to hear more. How- ever, this was the first conference he had atten- ded, and his impression was that it was "too bulky," and the delegates seemed to be in too much of a hurry to get done before they had really started. He dealt with the three days' work done, and said that while some of the matters touched Upon did not affect Prestatyn in any way, others were specially applicable. The town-planning bill was a case in point. Then there was the suggestion that municipalities should join in mutual insur- ance—two matters which had his heartiest approval. An item in one of the days' programme was a visit to the model village of Port Sunlight. This was a very educational pleasure, and it imbued one with the idea what a grand thing it would be if watering places were ruled like that. If a generous landowner could be found here who would follow in the lines of Mi Lever they could make Prestatyn one of the finest seaside resorts in the kingdom. Mr Inglefield went on to refer to the many other matters dealt with, and mentioned that the Public Health Act came in for much adverse criticism, for it had been made most difficult to adopt. On one of the days they went over the Wallasey Council's undertakings and this proved very instructive. The water- works they had inspected proved to him that if the Prestatyn Council had command of the whole of the spring at Marian they would be able to provide water for about 60,000 people. Another matter of interest to them in Prestatyn was the refuse destructor, and before long the Council would have to con- sider very seriously the purchasing of a destructor. In conclusion he thanked them for the privilege of being able to attend the conference. Mr Linnell said their thanks were due to Mr Inglefield for the very exhaustive way in which he had dealt with the matter. The report had been put together in a very interest- ing way, and he proposed a vote of thanks to Mr Inglefield for going. Mr Parry Williams seconded, and added the names of Mr Thos. Jones and the Clerk, each of whom had sacrificed their time to attend the conference. The vote was carried.

CRICKET NOTES. Prestatyn v. Rhyl Commercials. Played at Prestatyn on Saturday. Rhyl batted first but were all dismissed for 42 runs, of which T. Clews made 14 with beautiful cricket, and Smith 12. The bowling was equally divided, Messrs Wood- ward, Cain, and J. P. Linnell capturing three wickets each. The home fielding was the best of the season. J. Roberts kept wicket very well, and Messrs Oxlade and Bayfield made good catches. Prestatyn made a bad start, losing J. Roberts and I. Eames with only one run on the book, but Woodward, Cain, and Oxlade hit so well that the Rhyl score was passed for the loss of four wickets. Finally the locals won by 32 runs with three wickets still to tall. The Prestatyn score was as follows J. Roberts b Griffiths 0 1. Eames b Mills 0 A. E. Woodward b Griffiths 16 J. Bayfield did not bat. A. E. Woodward made his first appearance for the locals on Saturday, and proved a source of much strength in both bowling and batting. W. A. Jones was chosen to play for Flint- shire this week but was unable to do so owing to being away in South Wales. The team for Rhuddlan next Saturday will include A. E. Woodward, G. Cain, J. Oxlade, and W. A. Jones, but will lack the services of the brothers Linnell.
