A cure of these complaints is within the reach of the most humlile, by fomenting the affected part with warm salt and water and rubbbing in Holloway's Ointment twice a day. Thou- sands have been cured who looked upon Gout and Rheumatism as incurable. The same treatment should be employed for the dispersion of chalk stones, and all painful enlargements or stiff- ness of the jonts; in such cases the Pill should be taken according to the printed directions. Bad Lega, Bad Breats, and Ulcerations of all kinds. The cure of ulcers has won for Holloway's Ointment an im- perishable reputation, as this healing Ointment will Testore any case however bad to soundness. Many bad legs arise from im- prudences, happeninr several years before and almost forgotten; if, then, there be any doubt as to the origin of the sores, the patient should read carefully what is written on secondary symp- toms in the Rook of Directions, as those sores never heal soundly until the system has undergone a thorough course of Holloway's gurifying Pills. Coughs, Colds, Sore Throats, Diphtheria, and Bronchitis. Any of the above ailments may be quickly cured if the Oint- ment be well and effectually rubbed into the neek and chest twice a day, leaving the parts constantly covered with a rag spreud with the preparation; if this treatment be adopted promptly, in six hours it will effectually stop the most alarming symptoms. It must he evident that an outward application ap- plied to the seat of the disorder must he more effectual than any thai can be taken by the mouth. Holloway's Pills should be used according to the directions in order to subdue irritation, inflammation, or fever DROPSY. This fearful disease often makes its appearance between the ages of fjrty and fifty, and might gem-rally be prevented by attending regularly to the proper action of the liver and stomach: these organs, at this time of life, have a great tendency to derangements, when asthma, dropsy, or disease of the heart often fets in. The blood requires frequent elimination which no other medicines can so effectually perform as these purifying Pills, as they purge gently, and act immediately upon the liver and stomach, and thus remove all obstructions which at the turning point of life always occur. This dangerous period should be closely watched; two doses a week of about six Pills will ward off all dangerous diseases. But in all cases of dropsy the Ointment is a wonderful and sovereign remedy. and must be effectually rubbed twice a day into the suffering parts. Youthful Indiscretion. How many poor women suffer from the Indiscretion of hus- bands— which results in bad legs, swellings, loss of health, and rheumatism—as they suppose-although it is nothing of the kind- but the effect of a certain disease taking hold of the sys. tem-no ordinary medicine can cure 'hem, because the disease has sunk deeply into their constitution. Children often have sores, and bad heads, which do not heal, for the reason that contamination occurred before their birth. Let all who may suffer from such causes have recourse to the purifying and heal- ing properties of the-e wonderful Ointment and Pills, observing carefully what is said in the book of directions on Secondary Symptoms, which, if strictly followed, will effect any cure of the kind, but it will be a work of a little time. THE Directors of the INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL JL SOCIETY, in submitting this Propectus to the Public, call attention to the fact that the Company has been established to supply an admitted want in this country, where landed property is less nego- tiable as a Fund of Credit, than in any other of the States of Europe, in most of which large financial associations, snch as the Banks of Hypothecation in Prussia, Austria, and Holland, the Credit Foncier of France, &c., &c., make advances on Land with promptitude, at a moderate rate of Interest, and at small attendant expense. The Company acting by their Debenture system, will be enabled to turn over their paid-up capital many times in the year. It is estimated that a working fund of £200,000, being .£10 per share, would be sufficient to conduct a business involving operations of three or four millions per annum, and a moderate commission upon that amount would produce an income, which, after making the most ample deductions for working expenses and reserve fund, will leave a sum available for Dividend suffi- cient to remunerate the Shareholders on an un- usually high scale, as proved by the large profits made by the Lands Improvement Company in the ten years they have been in operation. ON Saturday last, in consequence of the wet stat of the ground, caused by incessant rain, a portion o the churchyard wall above the road, at Llanbadarn gave way, to the extent of some four or five yards exhibiting to view the coffins, as we are informed, o the slidden graves adjoining. ACCIDENT.-On Saturday last, as John Roberts an ostler at the Belle Vue Hotel, was in the act o leading two horses out of the yard, he, by thl obstinacy of the animals, had his arm broken. E Richardes, Bryneithin, distributed to the poor an( aged in this neighbourhood upwards of 2U pairs o blankets. This Capt. Richardes has been in th< habit of doing annually for many years in the mosi unostentatious manner possible. However, we deen; it to be our duty to record such acts of charity when. ever they come to our knowledge, so that others may thereby be induced to follow the example. PENYPARKE NATIONAL SCHOOL.—On the occasion of Mr. Henry Hughes completing his apprenticeship and leaving this school, to undertake the mastership of Cellan School, the following testimonials wert presented to him:—From the pupil teachers and school children, a handsomely bound Church Ser- vice from the master, Todhunter's Plane and Spherical Trigonometry; and from the manager, Col. W. T. R. Powell, M.P., an elegant edition of Paley's Works, as mementoes of their esteem and regard, and with universal wishes for his future prosperity. TOWN TEMPTATION.—On Monday last, a person named Thomas Evans, occupying a small farm, called Tynewydd, above Talybont, came to town for the purpose of receiving the proceeds of a sale of farming stock. He was accompanied by his better half," with the view of keeping him clear of tempta- tion, which he was somewhat prone to fall into, namely, the making too free an use of the cup which inebriates." On the day in question Evans received upwards of JElOO in bank notes, gold, and silver, the whole of which, unfortunately, as it turned out, was pocketed by himself, and not the wife. Evans, of course, must go and celebrate the occasion over a glass and one glass was followed by another in quick rotation, till at last the pot valiant became noisy and ungovernable. His wife used all the persuasion she was possessed of to induce him to go home with her, but to no purpose. Evans even- tually fell into the clutches of one of the blues," who very unceremoniously lodged him for the night in" durance vile." On the following morning the officer in charge waited upon the chief magistrate. But before the appointed hour had arrived to release the moneyed prisoner,-which was done on payment of a fine,-a telegram had reached the chambers where the orders of another tribunal are attended to for afifa on a judgment against him, at the instance of one of the suitors of that court, which was speedily banded over to the officer of another-division of that tribunal, who was at once in attendance when the bank notes, &c., were to be returned to the prisoner. Just at the moment when the money was placed on the table to be counted, Evans was thunderstruck at seeing the paw of a County Court bailiff on three of his notes, to satisfy the process above alluded to. He and his wife, who was also present, stepped for- ward instantaneously to grapple the treasure, but too late and it was utterly hopeless to try and recover it by any legal means.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE ABERYSTWITH OBSERVER. THE DRAINAGE. SIR,-As many of the rate-payers of the town have had their doubts as to the sufficiency of the intended fall to be given to the new drain, question- ing very much that any less than that recommended by the late Mr. Bush would be effectual, I wrote to Mr. Jennings, of London,—a gentleman who has had 30 years' experience in sanitary matters,—to consult him on the subject, and his answer is given below. Yours, &c., BENJAMIN HUGHES. Palace WhUlj, Palace Road, Lambeth, London, S., Nuv. 21 st, 1863. DEAR SIR, -1 hope you have received the book and letter I sent you lust night. I Think if I could come to your town, I could save the Commissioners some hundreds of pounds, as I have done in many cases before. I go all over the united king- dom. My fee is ten guineas, and expences paid. This may "ppenr a large sum to country people; but if you save ten tens, and have a better job, what then? The drainage of town): is very impertectly understood. A town may be DitAINED, yet be a stinking totrn, from the improper application of the appliances necessary to the purpose. 1 hope the extent of the works I have executed will prevent you considering me vain but it is admitted I have done, and am doing, more than any man in sanitary mat- ters. After I hear from you as to receipt of book, I will write you as to street gullies, Sic. Yours truly, MR. B. HUGHES. GEORGE JENKIITUS. The following have also been received :— I'alace Road Wharf, Lambeth, London, S., Jan. 10th, 1864. nEAR SIR, -I have your letter, in which you ask me if one- sixth of an inch in 12 teet is sufficient tail tor a main drain. In reply I beg to say that no engineer would be content with so small a fall, unless his outfall ruled or c unpolled him to accept so little. Perhaps your outfall is into the sea, or some river, and the interior of the town very little above the difcharging point; and your surveyor in his desire to drain the basement of build- ln$*> interior of the town, may be comp,Ued to put up with the tall you name. If he is not so bound, and can increase the fall, for the sake of health, persuade him to increase it; for you must remember, while sewers and drains minister to our health and comfort, by conveying from us impurities that (neg- lected) would endanger if not destroy life, still the state of their surfaces, with a slug(jUhfnll9 generate gases of a most poisonous nature, which are ever striving to escape, not in the directum of the fall, but cr, towards the houses which they are in connec- tion with; hence the necessity for well trapping all drains. Per- haps your surveyor may have the means of flushing out thin sewer with a slugcish fall, but a NATDKAI. discharge is better than an artificial one, which latter may be neglected and must ever be attended with some expense. Forgive me for once more referring to the Creek pipes. I know that the surveyor to the I oplar District Hoard of Works once tried a few of these pipes. Can gum" surveyor say, why this London surveyor of 30 years' ex- perience has never used the Creek pipes since, but has ever since specified my patent pipes? I repeat, you have a sample of my pipes, call for a simple of the IS-inch Creek pipe, and judge for yourself. You would not bt.yMr.Brown'soats.befause they wereMr. Brown's; you would first require a sample. Ily the same rule, if you Imy the i reek pipes, and do not approve of them,you cannot return them. In conclusion, I would beg to say, that I have no desire to be on other than good terms with your surveyor. He has a perfect right to object to my pipes, or any other pipes; but at the same time, lie ought, for the satisfaction of the board, to show that his objections are well grounded. For two years I have never advertized my pipes; yet, my works, which are the most extensive in the country, are ever fully employed by the recommendation of tioards I have supplied; and I hope yet to number your surveyor among my friends. DEAR SIR,-When I wrote you on Saturday I was not aware that your sewer discharged into a tidal river," or that it would be tide-locked from five to six hours every high tide. Had I been in possession of this information I should most certainly have recommended aU the fall possible, otherwise, from the gravitation of fecal and other matters, the deposit will soon ren- der your sewer foul, and impede the flow. Again, I should have recommended one of Mr. Terwick's tidal valves, which, being self-acting at the outfall, would prevent the flooding of your sewer and house drains, during high tides. If you fear your newer will not contain the storm water due to heavy rains when tide-locked, I would suggest some arrangements by which a por- tion of the storm waters should escape, as at present, without entering the sewer. By this means, with a tidal valve, the sewer might be made to contain the sewage proper during the time it was tide-locked and a portion of the rain fall. As to coming down for less than I named, I could not do so. My experience has cost me 30 years of my life; and it is worth my charge or nothing. I trust my replies to your letters will not give offence to your surveyor, whom I have not the pleasure of knowing, and whom I should not allude to but for the opinion expressed relating to my pipes, and which opinion he may enjoy, if be shows cause why all his brother surveyors are wrong in using them. SIB,—At the last commissioners' meeting, Mr. Benjamin Hughes, Ironmonger, produced a paper containing what he represented to be a survey by me of the drain in course of construction In Terrace Road; and he proceeded to show that the results disagreed with those of Mr. Paul's. The facts are these a messenger from Mr. Hughes brought me a paper, which I have by me, and of which the fol- lowing is a copy • A fall is l-6th of an inch in 12 feet, how much is it m 100 feet ? also in 650 feet ?" The bearer, who was instructed to wait for an answer, returned with the following:—"On your data, the fall in 100 feet is 1 inch and 7-18ths, and in 650 feet is 9 inches and l-36th." Every one acquainted with evelling, knows that the finding of the fall is not the work of calculation, but consists simply in inspection and use of the instrument; and as I have never even seen the drain in question, I am surprised Mr. Hughes should have made the assertion.
