ABERAYRON.
ABERAYRON. FISH.—A quantity of fish is brought in by the Trawler several times a week. This is a boon for which the Aberayronioans are indebted to Mr Givynne, and which is much appreciated, and mora so by visitors. A DISAPPOINTED SKAGULL.-Last week a seagull was observed carrying in its beak aeross the har- bour a fish, and deposited it on the dry lands, when it appeared to be alive. A young fellow doss by observing the occurrence, ran and seized it, where. upon the gull fled away, no doubt much disap- pointed. The fish weighed over a pGund. THE RAILINGS AGAIN.—A discussion toek place at the qllltrtltr sessions last week, regarding the re- placing; of the railings by the brjdgs. It appears it was proved som* years ago, that the ceunty was liable to keep this spot in a safe condition, but the county surveyor states oiherwue. One thing is certain that these railings were broken daring th^ the erection of the new bridge, and aonsequeatly should be replaced either by the contractor ar th's county. An accident was but avoided the othsr night to a little boy, which mignt hafe OMIl attended with serious consequences. At a meeting of the Aberayron parochial commit- ts1?, held at the Assembly Rootus Tuesday night, it was unanimously agreed that the following be presented and read before the Sanitary Board on Wednesday, the 5th instant :-Your committee "ere greatly surprised in perusing the reports of your medical officer to find to many mis-statements, and the persistency with which they were made for a number of years, and were almost, inclined to be- lieve that the reports referred to some pestilent hamlet, in a half civilised country, wnd not to the healthy little town of Aberayron. It is a matter of rsgret to us that these reports were not contradicted at the time they were made, and so to a certain ex. tent stop this proposed expenditure of public money- but evidently neither you nor the Local Govern- ment Board believed fhese exaggerated statements, viz. :—"That the Aberayronians were living on "di. luted sewerage" and:such phrasesor we should have been compelled long ere now to remedy the supposed scandalous state of our town. Whilst wa protest against these exaggerated reports, we are not un- conscious, nor indifferent to the improvements ne- cessary appertaining to our water supply, but fully appreciating the importance of having a pure supply of water to the town. We therefore beg to submit to you the folio* Ing schemes :-Tynffynon scheme Should the Local Government Board object to the first and second schemes, we beg to submit a scheme to bring water by gravitation from springs situated at Tynffynon, a distance aloog the road of five miles, but by crossing fields the distance could be brought under four. Having visited and gauged these springs we fipd that they yield plenty of water to supply Aberayron at the rate of 20 gallons per head (and more if necessary), taking Aberayroa to contain 15,000 inhabitants. For instance the spring in the.farm yard filled a 2inch pipe and Sowed at the rate of 21,000 gallons per 24 hour*, the other two:combined filled a 2inch pipe, flowed at the rate of 14,000 per 24 hours, and there are other springs on the spot which we did not gauge. T he Sanitary Board not having complied with our request granting as the sum of £10 to secure the services of an engineer to prepare a preliminary re- port and estimate, we cannot carry the matter far- ther. BLUE RIBBOIT MOVKM3KT.—The inauguration meeting of this movement will bs held on the i2th inst.. when the Rev Job Miles, Aberystwyth, has promised to attend. An united prayer meeting will be held on the previous evening to invoke the Divine blessing upon the movement. Mr Geld, with char- acteristic t-al, has valanteered to distribute leaflets announcing these meetings at each house iu tha town. Mr Gold has, with his usual liberality, also indroated that ho will provide all the blue ribboa necessary. The Rev Heary Pritahard, WeSloif3.1i minister, is chairman; Mr J. S. Jones, National Provincial Bank, seerefcary Mr Benjamin Gold, treasurer. FIRE.-A fire occnrred on Wednesday morning, about nine o'clock, at the hay loft above the Bsnk stables. Smoke was first observed issuing from the roof by one of the servants, and she immediately raised an alarm, which brought the workmen of Mr Thos Davies, Co<*pton House, to the scene, and they were shortly afterwards followed by a large number of others. There was a plentiful supply of water from the Bank pump, carried by willing hand's, which was thrown in through the loft door and win- dows and also through the roof. After about an hour's hard work the fire was pnt out. It was very fortaaate that the fire d d not occur during the night, or the whole premises might ilava bt-en con- sumed. The building has been bnc slightly damaged Mr W. H. Jones desires to express his thanks to those who assisted to extinguish the flames. The origin of the fire it not known. •CARDIGAN. SCHOOL BOABD.—The monthly meeting of this board was held in the eounoil chamber, Cardigan oa Monday, all the members being present. The chair WItS occupied by Mr T. Davies. In accor- dance witjit his notice ot motion, Mr R. D. Jenkiua proposal that the Bible be read in future in the schools under the jurisdiction of the board, but that the same be not explained in any particalar. This was seconded by the cbairman. *MrAsa J. Evans moved as an amendment that the motion be not adopted, inasmuch as the Bible truths could not naturally be recognised with age aeriousness by the children, and would, therefore, be depre- I ciated thereby, which was seconded by the RIr W. Jones, C.M., both gentlemen basing their om lions on the "long cut and drioi" questionable argu- ment that in schools where secular education only was required to b* given under the law the intro- duction of the Holy Writ would have the effect of reducing the sacred importance of the Scriptures in the estimation of the rising generation. Tag amendment was supported by Mr O. Picton Davids and on the question being put to the meeting the motion was negatived by a majority of one. LANBADARN. BLUBi RIBBON MOVBMKNT.—On Saturday last a meeting was held in connection with this movement in the Calvinistic Methodists chapel. The Rev D. G. Edwards^in the ehair. Addressag were delivered by the Revs James Edwards, Peter Davies, Messrs William Thomas, Richard Jones, and George Green. Several signed the pledge at the close.
