THE DISASTROUS FLOODS IN POLAND. The Czar has just sent 200,000 silver roubles to Warsaw to help to alleviate the distress caused by the disastrous inundations. His Majesty has ordered his aide-de-camp to repair at once to the Polish capital to distribute the gift, and to report to the Czar the extent of the calamity. It is certain that amongst the farmers and labour- ing portion of the country population the floods have caused the most poignant and widespread distress. As to the actual damage done to the crops and other property, no adequate estimate can yet be formed, but it cannot be less than from ten to twenty millions of roubles. The losses in Prussian Poland (Posen) and Aus- trian Poland (Galicia) are hardly inferior to those suffered in the Polish parts of Russia. In one dis- trict of Posen alone sixty thousand acres are under water, and the crops have all been more or less com- pletely destroyed.
