LLANTHEWY VACH. LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE OF A PABSOHAQH HOUsB,-The first step, practically speaking, towards sup- plying a want that has long been felt in this parish, has been taken during the past week, in laying the foundation stone of a parsonage house. Feeling the great inconve- nience to himself and parishioners from the absence of a place of residence, the incumbent, the Rev. John Jones, some time since, set on foot a subscription for erecting a suitable building, and so far have his efforts been.at- tended with success, that he has been enabled to engage the services of Mr. Lawrence, of Newport, as architect, and Mr. George Jones, of the same town, as bunder, the latter of whom guarantees that the edifice shall be de" delivered complete on the 25th March next. The occasion of laying the stone was taken advantage of for holding 4 harvest thanksgiving service, in the parish church, at which the Rev. H, P, Edwards (formerly incumbent of the parish) preached a sermon admirably adapted for the occa- sion. At the conclusion of the service, the clergy and congregation proceeded to the site selected for the parson- age, which is situate on the glebe land, and adjacent to the parish road, The proceedings here commenced by the incumbent reading a form of prayer compiled for the occasion; after which, the ceremony of laying the stone was performed by Mrs. F. J. Mitchell, of Llanvrechva Grange. The church choir, conducted by T. Cooke, Esq., was present, and sang several psalms and canticles from the Llandaff Festival book for the present year, in very creditable style. The plans and designs were produced on the ground, and were much adrnjred. The incumbent liberally had tea provided at the Holly Bush farm, of which a large number partook, and so brought the in, teresting proceedings to a close. J (Other District Intelligence on 8th page),
