USK FARMERS' CLUB. President: EDWARD LISTER, ESQ. THE ANNUAL MEETING- is fixed to take place at LLANCAYO FARM, near Usk, On Friday, October 27th, 1865, When the following prizes will be offered for compe- tition :— PLOUGHING. For Ploughing Half-an-Acre of Land in the best and most workmanlike manner, within four hours, with a pair of horses, without driver :— CLASS I.—CHAMPION PRIZE of £4,-Open to all Eng- land, to be competed for by Ploughmen belonging to Plough Manufacturers, and also others who have gained the first prize in any year, in the Cham- pion class. CLASS II.—'CHAMPION PRIZE.—To be competed for by a resident Member of the Club, his Son or Servant, who have won first prizes in any year, in the two following classes: First prize, £ 3; Second prize, zCl. CLASS III.—To the Farmer (being a member) or his Son: First prize, 23 Second Prize, £2. CLASS IY.-To the Ploughman or servant of a mem- ber First prize, £ 3; Second prize, zC2 Third prize, £ 1 lOs, Fourth prize, £ 1 Fifth prize, 10s. CLASS V.-To the Son or Servant of a member, under 20 years of age: First prize, JEL 10s.; Second prize, Xi. Teams to be in the field at 8 30, when lots will be drawn, and the signal for starting will be given at Nine o'clock. If not more than two complete, the second prize will be withheld. Flays to be used, and the Ploughing to be Six inches deep. FARMS. CLASS VI.—A Prize of 23 3s. offered by His Grace the Duke of Beaufort, to the Tenant Farmer who shews the Neatest Farm, and the best Fences and Roadways, and displays the greatest economy in the management of his homestead, especially in the husbanding and preparation of manure. Entrance fee, 2s. 6d. THATCHING, CLASS VII.-For the best Set and Thatched Ricks, done by a Son or Servant of a member of this club, regard being had to the number of ricks: First prize, zCl Second prize, 10s. HEDGING. CLASS VIII.—For Hedging Three Perches (twenty- one yards) within six hours First prize, jEl, Second prize, 10s. The Hedging to commence at Eight o'clock on the iaorning of the Ploughing Match. fhe prizes will be withheld unless there are three competitors. STOCK. CLASS IX.—A prize of £5, offered by Reginald Herbert, Esq., for the best three-year-old Nag, by a thorough-bred horse. Open to the County of Monmouth. The Horses to be shewn in front of the Three Sal- Sums Hotel. There must be six competitors, or the prize will not be awarded. CLASS X.—A prize of El Is. offered by Messrs. Ogden and Co., Halifax,Yorkshire, for the best Pen of Six Wether Tegs. Bred by the exhibitor. CLASS XI.—A prize of Li Is., offered by Mrs. Mac- farlane, for the best Pen of 5 Breeding Ewes. CLASS XIl.-A prize of XI Is. to a Cottager for the, best Pig, and which has been in his possession for three months. GREEN CROPS. CLASS XIII.—A prize of Six Guineas, offered by Messrs. Prangley and Co., of Bristol, for the best Six Acres of Swedes, grown with any maker's manure. CLASS XIV.—A prize of £ 5, offered by Mr. Roger Morgan, of Llanellen, to the Tenant Farmer who shews the best Four Acres of Swedish Turnips, grown by artificial manure. CLASS XV.—A prize of E2, offered by the Western Counties' Manure Company, to the Tenant Farmer for the best general Green Crop, not less than Five Acres, grown with the Western Counties' Manure Company's Manure (without dung). CLASS XVI.—A Prize of E5, offered to a Tenant Farmer, who grows the best Five Acres of Swedes, by Proctor's Manure (without farm manure). PRODUCE. CLASS XVII.—A prize of £1 Is. to the Farmer's Wife or Daughter who shall exhibit, at Two o'clock on the day of the Ploughing Match, at the Three Salmons Hotel, the best sample of Butter, (not less than 61bs.) The exhibitor must have been in the habit of supplying the inhabitants of Usk "with this article, either by attending the market Or disposing of her goods at private houses. CLASS XVIII.—A prize of £ L Is. to the Farmer's Wife or Daughter, who shall, at the same time and place 88 above, exhibit the best half cwt. of cheese, of her own making. CU.ss XIX.-A prize of 10s. to the Farmer's Wife or Daughter, who shall exhibit the best couple of Fowls for the Table. To be bred and fed by the exhibitor. CLASS XX.—A prize of £1 Is., offered by Mr. Richard Miles, for the best sack of Wheat, to be grown by a member of the club. CLASSXXI.—A prize of E I Is., offered by Mr. Richard Miles, for the best sack of Barley grown by a mem- ber of the club. The Wheat and Barley to be exhibited at Llan- cayo, on the morning of the Ploughing Match. Notice of Competition for the Neatest Farm, Ricks, and Green Crops, must be sent in to the Secretary on or before the 17th of October, and the names of the Ploughmen who intend to cumpete at the Plough- ing, must be given, and all entry Fees and Subscrip- tions paid to the Secretary, on or before the 24th of October. The Committee reserves to itself the power of with- holding any Prize where the Judges consider there is not sufficient Merit. References of the highest respectability can be given, to Agriculturists, both in this county and Herefordshire, who are prepared to say that since they have used this Drench and Treatment they rarely ever lose a Single Head of Stock from the above Disorder whereas before its use, they were constantly losing as many as Eighteen or Nineteen out of every Twenty Calves attempted to be reared.
