HENRY WEBBER, CARDIFF St MKItTII VK 6V4RDIAN OFFICE SOLE AUTHORISED AGENT FOR CARDIFF. THE ASAM TEA COMPANY. A SAM, a British Colony, of growing importance, situate on the very verge of China, ranks among the most interesting of our East Indian Possessions, for the continuous improvement of this Province, in a general sense, under the auspices of the Asam Company." The exertions and capital of the "ASAM TEA COMPANY" are, however, especially devoted to bringing into general repute a SELF-PECULIAR & INDIGENOUS TEA PLANT PRODUCED IN ASAM, HTTAT classed with the most important of our Colonial productions for its SURPASSING yUALIlIES. The A3am Tea possesses, from the fitness and richness of the soil, virtues apart from and superior to any other leaf, even in a wild state, and FOR STRENTH, AS WELL AS FLAVOUR, IS UNAPPROACH- ABLE by any of the Chinese Plants, which properties have been, and still will be, infinitely improved by experienced Anglo-Chinese cultivation. Therefore, besides is indescrihably fine flavour, its very superior strength guarantees an ECONOMY ATTENDANT ON ITS CONSUMPTION, which must necessarily render it a domestic acquisition of incalculable advantage. The" Asam TEA Company" are also Shareholders in the" Asam Company," and therefore have an interest I in, and depend for success entirely on, the peculiar and intrinsic qualities of the Asam Tea, which, for these reasons, they furnish in a pure and genuine state, by means of advertised Agents, riot interested in their adult era- ? I was first attacked in 1837, with a Ner- vous Affection and Dyspepsia, or Indigestion, which caused, at times, very great coustipation of the bowels, and excruci- ating pain, for which I went under the care of several medical gentlemen, and one physician in Birmingham, without deriv- ing any great benefits; in 1839-40 I was very much worse, and the attacks came on more frequently, and continued up to March, 1843, when accidentally hearing of PARR'S LIFE ILI.5, I was induced to try ihem, and with very greatsuccess so much so that it has all left me. and I am able to follow my employment as I used to do prior to my attack, & beg further to state that I feel stronger than ever I did in my life before, and my looks bespeak it. ALEXANDER DOCGL\S, do hereby declare the good I have received from taking PARR'S LIFE PILls, In the year 1S40 I was affl;cted with a most distressing Asthma, oough, and shortness of Breath, which reduced me to death's door; notwithstanding my spending near £200 in consulting the most eminent medical men in London and Edinburgh, my disease continued, unabated, and I was, as a last resource, advised to try my native air of Dundee, which I did, and at the same time was recommended by a friend to take PARR'S PILI S. I commenced with them in the spring of 1843 experiencing relief, I persevered, and am now in m\ 63ra year, perfectly cured, and in better health than I have been for many years. Having just arrived in London, I hasten to make my wonderful cure known to the Proprietors, and to recom- mend something to the afflicted worihv of a fair trial and 110 favour. The numberless instances daily incurring, wherein affections of the lung. putting on all tilco, iter appearances of consumption which, however, when traced to the.r source, are found to result from certain hanc-tul habits, fully proves that the principle of the division of lub >r is nowhere more applicable than in medical practice. The rage for b toks in all departments of science, literature, and the arts, was, we beliftve, never so prevalent as at the present tirne.-Thc unavoidable consequence of this is, that we meet a considerable proportion of indifferent, useless, and even bad book*. — With the force of this prejudice on our minds, we with no little reluctance were induced 10 peruse Messrs. The. multitude of books daily comino from the press, some, nav most of them, of a very questionable tendency, made us extremely reluctaut io take up another. The clear exposition of the source, of many of those diseases \vhi<-h prove so fatal to youth, and which are set down by the every day observer as the result of common causes, such as exposure to cold, sudden vicissitudes of temperature, hereditary taint, &c., is truly convincing and extremely satisfactory. And we do not think we go too far in saying, that society ts deeply indebted to the authors for producing so u-eful, so much wanted, so valuable, and so truly moral a book. — Conservative Journal This is a work tint we fear there exists too much need of to cause us to hesitate to recomme id it for geueral perusal Every branch of those frightful maladies, whether the result of immoral habits or secret vices, is here succinctly treated, and, divested of all medical technicality, plain and easy directions are given for the best mode to be pursued in all cases, however complicated or apparently hopeless. Rowland and Son as -lie most valuable and indispensable requisites for the toilet yet submitted to the world. At tin's peculiar season, when "the skyey influences" are peculiarly powerful, and often noxious to the complexions of the fair, we would particularly recommend Rowlands' invaluable Kalydor as the most balmy, mild, and efficacious safeguard yet. offered to the public against the evils arising to the skin from the vicissituies of the weather and the alternation of the seasons.—See advt. INFORMATION FOR MARINERS AND ADVENTURERS IN SEAKCH OF GUANO.—We have been favoured by Captain Pringle, of the Plata, lately arrived from BuenOs Avres, ivith the following extract from his log-book On Monday, April 21. at seven, a.m., made St. Paul's Island. In lat., by observation, 0 54 N., long. 29 15 W., there ire five rocks, with gaps between them: the largest having a peak, similar to a sugar loaf, on the north-east end, and the south end, not quite so high, being flat withal. I tried for soundings, at half-past seven, the island bearing south two miles, and no bottom at one hundred fathoms. I saw a flag hoisted upon it at eight, a.m. I tacked and stood to the southward again, sup- posing by that some vessel had been wrecked, and that a half mile, then hoisted the boat out, and sent 1\Ir. Marshall, chief mate, to ascertain what the cause was. He ascended the summit and found the flag to be a piece of canvass hoisted on a pole, and at the foot a bottle, with a note, of which the following is a copy :—' Barque John, St. Paul's Island, Friday, 17th April, 1845. To ship- masters of vessels. I got here this day, and there is no guano, so you must all proceed to where your letter in- structions order you, as this was the last place to where I was to proceed for guano. For your government, I have to say that I heard that freights round the Horn are C5. and E6. per ton. When any one reads this, please place it back again in the bottle. Whoever has orders for me, he will please send it from the first port he arrives at, addressed, Mr. Colin Campbell, 48, Queen-street, Glasgow." Wishing you all a prosperous voyage and good freights, I am yours, in poor spirits (signed) Oliver Campbell, agent for Downie and Ackerman.' My chief mate, supposiug the date of the year to be 18tl instead of 1845, as the latter appeared to be more like figure 1 than figure 5, that being so long ago he thought it no longer necessary to leave the bottle on the island, but brought it on board, and I have it now in my possession. He also took the flag down as I desired him to do, before he left the vessel, if no one were upon the island, as it would deceive other vessels that saw it. When I received the note I discovered by appearance it had been but lately written, and that the figure was intended for five. There .was also another mistake: it was dated Friday, the 17th April; now Friday was the 18th April this year. The vessel being at too great a distance to send it back, and the breeze increasing, I did not do so. I lost four hours of a fair wind by this, and no advantage whatever to myself, only to help any of my fellow-creatures who might have been there, as I supposed by seeing the flag. I consider it in night time very dangerous, untese there is a good look-out, as it is low, and cannot be seen during the day and clear weather more than eight or nine miles. The mate sounded at about thirty yards from the shore, north-west end, and had fifty-five fathoms hard bottom, and fifteen fathoms a boat's length from the shore. Where they landed it is a very low, barren, and desolate place, no vegetation whatever; found a number of birds and a quantity of eggs, of which they brought some on board, about the size of a duck's egg. There was no fresh water to be found. The island lies about north. east by north, and south-west by west, by compass, half a mile, and about a quarter of a mile east and west, lat. 0 52 north, and long. 29 14 west. A strong current running to the north. west," -.Liverpool paper.
