CARMARTHENSHIRE. ACCIDENT AT CARMABTHEN.—On Sunday, after the middle-day down train arrived at Carmarthen, an engine of the Cardigan Railway, while shunting from the South Wale a line, at the Carmarthen Junction Statio. on to the Cardigan line, ran off the rails, in consequence of the points not having been properly turned, and it took several hours to replace it on the rails. Had the accident occurred on a week day, the obstruction would have been serious, as the up and down South Wales lines were blocked up by the engine. OBITUAKY.—It is with deep regret that we this week record the death of Rees Goring Thomas, Esq. Rees Goring Thomas was born at Tavistock-place, Tavistock- square, London, and was the son of Morgan Thomas, Esq., of Llety-mawr, Llanon. R. G. Thomas was many years a banker, at 21, Lombard-street, London, in con- nection with Sir Charles Asgell and Mr Esdell, whose daughter he married. He was a magistrate for the county of Carmarthen, and High Sheriff for the county. He has lived for the last few years at Yscoed, Ferryside. He died on Friday, the 26th ult., at Morgan Jones, Esq.'e, Penlan House, Penlan, Newcastle-Emlvn, aged 62. He was highly respected, and bore an exemplars character, as an upright magistrate, good neighbour, and a sincere Christian. WELSH COLLEGIATE INSTITUTION, LLANDOVERY.— According to the results of the Annual Public Examina- tion conducted by the Rev. J. B. M'Clellan, M.A., late Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge; and in Welsh by the Rev. J. Jones, (Cldrisyn) Vicar of Dandysilio; the prizes in the 5th and 6th Forms have been awarded as follows:-For General Rank, to J. P. Hughes, Vicarage, Llandovery; Divinity, to James Mortimer, Carmarthen; Classics, to J. P. Hughes; Welsh, 1st to D. Watkins, Cwmaman; 2nd to R. J. James, of Abergwili; and 3rd to J. Lewif, of Dryslwyn. The following distinctions have been gained this summer by former Pupils of this School;—D. Williams, of Abercothy, first class in Mathe- matics, Moderations, Jesus College, Oxford. J. H. Protheroe. of Llandovery, promoted to a £60 Scholarship with First Mathematical Prize, Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. D. J. Davies, of Llanwnda, an Open Scholar- ship of XGO, and first of his year, Emmanuel College, Cambridge. D. Llewelyn, of Cefn Coed Cymer, an Open Scholarship at St. John's College, Cambridge. W. Griffith, Dryslwyn, a Foundation Scholarship at St John's College, Cambridge. -,e.
