TO THE INDEPENDENT ELECTORS…
TO THE INDEPENDENT ELECTORS OF TJI P; COUNTY OF PEMBROKE. GENTLEMEN, Although the Dissolution of Par- will not take place until nearly the close of the year, still the regretted announcements of the intended Resignation of your present esteemed Member, 1fr Bowen, and cf the Retirement of Lord Ernlyn from Ùiscandidalure for the representation of the County, "ill make it necessary for you to give your attention to the selection of a Representative iu the next Parlia- ment. Having received Numerous and Influential offers of SUPPort, I have been encouraged to believe that my Services might not be unacceptable to you, and I there- fOre venture to put them at your disposal. As Ihave represented Boroughs situate in your County for more tban 16 years I feel that, in forming a judg- "tent of any claim to your confidence, you will be Elided more by the Experience of the Past than any declaratioll I could make respecting the Future. It is impossible within the limits of an address to tefer to the many subjects which must occupy the at- tention of the next Parliament; One' of the First Questions will probably be that of the Established "otestant Church in Ireland. I have already re- corded my vote in opposition to its proposed Disestab- lishment & Disendowment-and I still adhere to the onions expressed by that vote, though willing to aid In applying Practical Remedies to any well-proved Cases of Grievance which after careful examination 1Ilay be proved to exist. Should you confer on me the honor of electing me as Your Representative in Parliament, every motive \\thich both a sense of duty and all social and personal considerations can inspire, would prompt me to exert Myself, to the utmost of my power, in promoting your general and local interests. I remain, Gentlemen, Your faithful and obedient Servant, J. H. SCOURFIELD. ^i&txiston, August 1st, 1868.

The Requisition I have had the honour so unex- pectedly to receive from a large number of intelligent influential Electors, demands as prompt and ,r(irik an acceptance on my part, as the support Las freely and handsomely given to me. The task, I feel, is great to follow one, who has for so ^y years zealously and efficiently discharged the IIttes of your Representative his unceasing and de. )°!ed attention to your local interests, & his readiness times to devote his time and talents to the pro- ton of your welfare, have endeared him to those who IIgreed with him, & caused him to be respected by those on some points differed from him.
