fo Readers. To all our fellow countrymen where-ever located, and to all who have the advancement of Wales at heart GREETING. In this journal from week to week, we hope to have a personal word with you all, and gather to- gether on one homely hearth, the deeds and doings of the children of our land. To those in this metropolis we will endeavour to have short bright news from every district in Wales supplied by local correspondents; while the doings within our own circle in London will be chronicled for the information of the "good old folks at home." Short personal gossip about all the talked-of people of our day will be inserted, and the co-operation of our readers in this column will materially help to make it readable and useful. Articles from well-known pens are promised from week to week, dealing with various questions of in- terest to Wales, and discussions on every topic will be conducted by leaders of all political and religious Parties. For our scattered citizens who have not the ad- vantages of Welsh religious services, a short pithy sermon will be inserted from time to time. Columns Will also be allotted to the papers read and discussions carried on in connection with all our literary societies. Our lady readers will have a series of short tales, mainly dealing with Welsh characters, and occasional topics on the new woman will be introduced. For the young people a prize corner will be con- ducted, as an inducement for them to study the history and the literature of our forefathers. We rust that these competitions will prove instructive ^nd entertaining to everybody, and any suggestions 0r this column will be carefully considered. We do not claim that the first or second numbers will be by any means perfect. In a new venture like the present there are obstacles and difficulties arising that can only be overcome by time, but we promise our readers that no effort or expense will be spared to make the LONDON KELT worthy of the patronage of all our countrymen. In claimaing the individual support of our readers we may confidently add that we have COME TO STAY. No way has been found for making heroism easy, even for the scholar. Labour, iron labour, is for him; the atoms of which it is made are opportunities. R. W. EMERSON. Cardiff, which, in half-a-century has sprung up from being a village of 10,000 inhabitants to a town of 130,000, owes its position says Mr. Duncan in the English Illustrated Magazine, to the wealth, enter- prise and foresight of the present Marquis of Bute. England wants such a one as the Marquis in every Parish. Where Satan cannot come himself, he sends wine as his messenger. At Maesteg Eisteddfod last Monday, the president Mr. H. G. J. Barrow, instead of inflicting a speech, s sang the popular song- "Mona" in a most capable manner. Mr. T. E. Ellis, chief Liberal Whip, returned to his office at Downing St. on Monday, to prepare for the forth-coming parliamentary session. One's surprise in the fact that no two persons' voices are perfectfully alike ceases when one is in- formed by an authority on the subject that, though there are only nine perfect tones in the human voice, there are the astounding number of 17,592, 115,044,415 different sounds. Of these, fourteen direct muscles produce 16,382 and thirty in- direct muscles produce 173,741,823, while all in co-operation produce the total given above.
