Y DEFFROAD CREFYDDOL. Shirland Road. Fel yn yr Hen Wlad y mae eglwysi Cymreig Llundain yn lied gyffredinol wedi cyfranogi yn weddol helaeth o'r ysbryd diwygiadol. Nid yw wedi dod yma eto yn ol disgwyliad, mwy nag yr oedd teyrnas nefoedd ym mysg yr Iuddewon. Yr ydym ninau yn Shirland Road wedi derbyn mesur lied helaeth o ddylanwad yr ymweliad. Nid yw fel rheol yn gyffrous, ond yn hytrach yn dawel a dwys. Yr oedd cyfarfodydd gweddiau wedi eu cynnal bron bob nos er dechreu y flwyddyn, ac yr oedd arwyddion amlwg o foddlonrwydd Pen yr Eglwys ar ein gwasanaeth. Tua diwedd mis Chwefror, aeth Mr. W. Price ac eraill i wrando ar Evan Roberts. Ar eu dychweliad taflwyd mwy o ynni a brwdfrydedd i'r gwaith. Ar Mai 16eg daeth y ddwy ferch ieuainc, Miss Davies a Miss Evans, o'r Ceinewydd, i fyny atom, gweinyddasant am wyth noson yn olynol. Yr oedd y gwasanaeth o dan urddas yn eu dwylaw. Daeth Mr. M. P. Morgan, Blaenanerch, atom am ychydig nosweithiau, a dilynwyd ef gan y Parch. T. Jones, Coedllai, gwr oedd yn meddu ar gymwysderau arbenig i arwain mewn cyfar- fodydd o'r fath. Boreu Sabboth teimlwyd rhyw ysbrydiaeth yn cerdded trwy'r gynulleidfa nas gellir ei ddarlunio mewn geiriau, ond nas anghofir gan bob un oedd yn bresenol. Dygwyd y gyfres gyfarfodydd i derfyniad yn Hammer- smith nos Fercher. Yr oedd presenoldeb yr Ysbryd yn amlwg yn llanw y lie. Yr oedd yr eneiniad oddiwrth y Sanctaidd' Hwnnw i'w deimlo yn amlwg a'i brofi. Ychwanegwyd llawer at rif yr eglwys o nifer y rhai gobeithiwn a fyddant byth yn gadwedig. Pe buasai eich gofod yn caniatau buaswn yn dweyd wrth y merched :—Yr ydych wedi ennill sefyllfa newydd yn yr eglwys yn gydmarol ddiweddar. Onid yw yn un o arwyddion cyflawniad addewid fawr y dyddiau diweddaf-" eich meibion a'ch merched a brophwydant." Daliwch afael yn eich rhagorfraint, a chymhwyswch eich hunain fwy fwy i gyflawni y gwaith. Eto ychydig mewn cydmariaeth o addysg gyflwynir yn y cyrddau gweddi; y mae hyn yn ein gosod o dan rwymau ychwanegol i weithgarwch dros yr Ysgol Sul, fel y byddom yn cael diwygiad nid yn unig gwresog ond goleuedig hefyd.- H.E.

BISHOP OWEN AND THE REVIVAL. The Lord Bishop of St. David's has sent to every clergyman in his diocese a copy of the Archbishop of Canterbury's pastoral letter regarding special prayers to God for an out- pouring of the Holy Spirit. With the pastoral letter the Bishop has sent the following Middleton Hall, Llanarthney, R S.O., "May 25. Reverend and dear Brother,—I append a pastoral letter which the Archbishop of Can- terbury has addressed to the bishop of each diocese in the province, and I am sure that you will be thankful that an exhortation has been thus given to the whole Church to unite in special prayer to God for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit among us, and for the strengthening Of our hold as Christians upon the deeper realities of our faith. We have just reason to be thankful to Almighty God that the Church ir, this diocese has not been left without par- ticipating in the blessing which He has given °ur country in a revival of religion, and we °ught at Whitsuntide to give Him humble and hearty thanks for His mercy to us, while renewing our prayers for a continuance of the blessings of His Holy Spirit. As in the Pastoral letter on the religious revival which I addressed to you on the 28th of December last, So now I think it best to leave particulars of Arties and methods for special prayer at Whit- suntide to local arrangements, but where a special form of intercessory service is desired I mention as helpful a form drawn up by the Dean of Bangor, and published by Messrs. Jarvis and Foster, Bangor, of which a Welsh version has been published by the Welsh Church Press Company, Lampeter, and the use of which I authorise in this diocese. I also authorise, where it is so desired, the use of one or more of the following Collects of Divine Service, after the Collect for the day, from Ascension Day to Trinity Sunday:The Collect for Whitsunday, the Collect of Quin- quagesima Sunday, the first Collect in the Holy Communion Service, the Collect for the Nine- teenth Sunday after Trinity, the Collect for the Ninth Sunday after Trinity.-I am, your faith- ful servant in Christ, "J. THE REVIVAL. IS IT REAL? On Sunday the Rev. Joseph Jones, M.A., a Congregationalist minister at Sutton, delivered two very interesting addresses to crowded and appreciative audiences on the above subject. In the morning the subject was The Revival: is it real ? And in the evening, Some of its characteristics." Needless to say that Mr. Jones (himself a Welshman) spoke in the most appreciative manner of this great Welsh move- ment. He did not intend to deal with Mr. Evan Roberts, and others, who were prominent in this movement": they were only incidents in'the great Revival, but still incidents in God's hand to do the work. The how," the when and the where" of the origin, no man could tell, but he believed that the secret of the whole was in the love of the Welsh people for the Bible, for in their prayers ignorant Welsh colliers spoke the beautiful and classical language of the purest Welsh as it is in the "grand old Book." What were the characteristics of the "Re- vival ?" They were a closer communion of a nation with the Unseen, the uplifting of a whole people, the moral elevation of a nation, the awakening of the national conscience. In fact, religion entered into the daily lives of the people it made them reverent, it made them sober, and out of the brutal and the ignorant it made ladies and gentlemen." In his concluding remarks the speaker warned the Church that on the great drink question they must realise their responsibility, making a powerful and an eloquent appeal to his hearers for earnest prayer and renewed effort for spiritual awakening. The addresses were delivered with the dramatic force of a powerful conviction of the true inwardness of this great Revival. Welshmen, said the speaker, were imaginative and emotional, and these characteristics of our nation were guided by the Holy Spirit to do great things, and he looks for still greater blessings. THE ROYAL NATIONAL EISTEDDFOD OF WALES. At a meeting of the Musical Committee held at the Ffrwd Offices under the presidency of Mr. G. Leighton, it was unanimously agreed to extend the date lor receiving all musical entries from the rst of June to the 19th of June, and that all newspapers and intending competitors be notified. The secretaries reported that all the artistes for the evening concerts had written accepting the terms offered, and that Miss Mabel Braine, of London, had been engaged as the contralto for the miscellaneous concert on the 8th of August. It was also reported to the Literary Committee that several competitors had sent in their com- positions, but had not sent the entrance fee or their address, so that the secretaries were unable to communicate with them. The committee decided to publicly inform all those com- petitors who have not given their addresses, to kindly write to the Joint Secretaries, Ffrwd Offices, Mountain Ash, as early as possible, enclosing is. entrance fee, in respect of each work sent in for competition.

RHYL EISTEDDFOD. Balance of Eight Pounds Odd. The closing meeting of the Rhyl Eisteddfod Committee was held on Monday night, Dr. R. Moreton-Pritchard presiding. The accounts were considered and approved they showed a balance in hand of £8 17s. 3d. Votes of thanks were passed to all the officers. Mr. P. Mostyn-Williams, chairman of the Gorsedd Committee, claimed that the Com- mittee should accept responsibility for the whole of the expenditure incurred in the establishment of the permanent Gorsedd circle in the sandhills off the Marine Drive, as it was not through his fault that it had exceeded the sum fixed by the Committee. He was liable to be called upon to pay £53, a debt which he considered the Com- mittee in honour bound to meet. It was decided, without any admission of liability, to make an extra grant of £8 out of the surplus to the Gorsedd Committee, and several speakers urged Mr. Mostyn-Williams to make an appeal for the remainder of the sum required, and suggested that, in all probability, most of the guarantors would be prepared to assist him to clear off the debt. It is understood that Mr. Mostyn-Williams will take this course. The circle seems, unfortunately, likely to prove a by no means permanent formation. Last winter's gales removed from it a consider- able amount of sand, and rendered the founda- tions of the upright monoliths precarious. It was generally believed at the time of the National Eisteddfod that the Rhyl Council meant to take over the Gorsedd circle and see to its preservation as a public monument, but no such action appears as yet to have been taken. Some measures to prevent the sand from being blown from around the stones seem necessary.
