CYHOEDDI EISTEDDFOD GENEDL- AETHOL, 1905. Yr oedd dydd Iau, Meh. 22ain, yn ddiwrnod bywiog yng Nghaernarfon, oblegid ei fod yn ddiwrnod cyhoeddi yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol sydd i'w chynnal yn y dref honno y fhwddyn nesaf. Fe gofir fod y ddirprwyaeth o Gaer Seiont wedi cario pobpeth o'i blaen yn y Rhyl ym mis Medi, ond ysywaeth nid yw pethau wedi gweithio yn llawn mor esmwyth ag y disgwylid yn yr hen dref enwog er hynny. Ni chafwyd y cydweithrediad ag y disgwylid ar ran rhai oedd yn selog dros ben yn gwahodd yr wyl i'r lie. Mae y Pwyllgor, fodd bynnag, wedi gweithio yn egniol, ac wedi cwblhau rhestr ragorol o destynau. A diau, fel y nesha yr adeg y daw pob llengarwryn y dref a'r cylchoedd i'w Ie priodol yn y rhych. Cymerodd y cyhoeddiad le yn y Castell. Cyn hynny gorymdeithiodd y rhai a gymerent ran yn y seremoni o'r Guildhall hyd orsafy rellffordd i gyfarfod yr Arch-dderwydd, Hwfa Mon, a Maer Bangor, ac yn ol i'r Castell. Blaenorid yr orymdaith gan Seindorf, ac yr oedd aelodau yr Orsedd yn eu gwisgoedd amryliw o wyn, glas, a gwyrdd. Llywyddwyd y gweithrediadau gan yr Arch-dderwydd, yr hwn er ei fod yn llesg, sydd a'i ysbryd eisteddfodol mor fyw ac iraidd ag ydoedd hanner canrif yn ol. Cymerwyd rhan yn y seremoni ddyddorol gan Alafon, Gwynedd, Cadfan, Eifionydd, Arlunydd Penygarn, a Llew Tegid, a llu eraill o deulu Barddas. Cyfeiriodd Arlunydd Penygarn at y dymunoldeb o gael cylch gorseddol parhaol yng Nghaernarfon fel sydd yn barod mewn amryw drefi, ac hefyd at yr angenrheidrwydd am fwy o faneri Cymreig ar ddyddiau gwyl Cymru. Gwnaeth Llew Tegid sylwadau byw ac amserol ar werth yr Eisteddfod fel sefydllad addys;ol, ond condemniwyd hi yn bur llym am na buasai wedi codi ei Hef yn gryf- ach yn y gorphenol o blaid dysgu yr iaith Gym- raeg yn yr ysgolion elfenol. Gofidiai mai dim ond 200 allan o 1,550 o fyfyrwyr yn y tri choleg cenedlaethol a gymerent Gymraeg fel un o bynciau eu hastudiaeth. Gobeithiai y cymerai yr Eisteddfod y mater hwn mewn Haw, ac y llwyddid drwy hynny i gael diwygiad buan. Darllenwyd rhestr o'r prif destynau, y rhai sydd wedi ei hysbysu yn ein colofnau eisoes. Yn yr hwyr cynhaliwyd cyngherdd Celtaidd, pryd y canodd amryw gantorion a thelynorion o Gymru, y Werddon, ac Ynys Manaw.

Qohebiaethau. [Nid ydym mewn un modd yn gyfrifol am syniadau ein gwahanol ohebwyr.] DO LONDONERS "LOOK DOWN" ON THE WELSHMAN? To the Editor of THE LONDON WELSHMAN." SIR,—In last week's issue of the LONDON WELSHMAN the South Wales Correspondent, in a paragraph that accidentally does not treat on his pet town Aberystwyth, referring to a comment passed in the Swansea Cambrian on the above question, asks—Is it true ? That the average Cockney does in a manner "look down" on John Jones is a truism, for do not the natives of Welsh Wales look askance at the invading Cockney • That there exists anything more than such petty prejudices is hard to prove. True it is that Welsh folk in London claim a monopoly of the milk trade—an' faith that is no elevated calling • Visions ot the trundling barrow and milk cans flit by at the mention of the Metropolitan Welshman —and here is that the uncharitable Londoner bases his opinion 0 the Cymro. Despite the fact that the most palatial drapery es ah* lishments all over London display distinctly Welsh names, and leading doctors and chemists by the score bear characteristic appellations from Gwalia, not to mention the fact that in all branches of trade and learning we find our compatriots filling most responsible and lucrative positions, yet withal, willy-nilly, the Cockney has ineradicably, in his mind, pinioned John Jones to the milk barrow. To explain why this thusncss" would require a more studious psychologist than the writer. That the majority of resident Welshmen merit this judgment none (and I include Londoners) conversant with Welsh life in London would dare assert. All Londoners are not rude, as the Cambrian critic avers neither are Welshmen by any means, unpolished. In most avocations in which the AVC-sh hold a goodly percentage, e. f{., the dispensing, drapery, and civil service, the immigrant Cymro must needs be educated and refined, and that they swiftly adapt them- selves to the conventionalities of London life all observants must know. It is the milk trade that enlists the truly lustic We.s". man. Be his brogue ever so broad, be his gait an d features as Welsh as the hills-it matters little. -If be can measure the milk and ring the change he is a passab e milk-vendor. And so, he it is that stumbles at tn- Cockney's shibboleths far more readily than WelshmeJ1 in other walks of life and, maybe in spite of hiniseJ > stands exposed to the sharp-sighted Londoner what lie really is—a growth ot the hills. He it is, misconceptIoll though it be, the Cockney might look down" on. Far be it from me to say a disparaging word of lly fellow-sojourner, who comes, like his milk, fresh frol11 the old country. In the office and behind the counte polish is necessary, sometimes, forsooth! at the cost our individuality. But the rustic behind the barrow i3> after all, the most prized with the freshness and the fre<^ ness, the sentimen'alities and superstitions—call the failings if you will—of gallant Wales. And I, for onf, am glad he cannot hide himself. EDRYCHYDD-
