Alleged Assault. James Jones and Margaretta. Jones were summoned for assaulting Mary Amm Da'b, anidi damaging the door of the house1. P-C. (r re,em way gave evidence on behalf of the pladpta-ff. Both defendants gave evidence 001 their own behalf. The case1 was dis- missed. Sleeping in the Lletty Shemkim Colliery. < Idris: Davies was summoned for sleep" ug im the Lletty Shenkim Colliery, and! also for going into a portion of the mine where he had no right to. Mr W. Kenisholie pro;,e cuited. Mr Thmas Brown, fireman at the Col- Iieiry, said he found the defendant on the 2nd irnst. in John Jones's heading, at 3.3 o a.m., asleep, with a lighted1 lamp by his side. Whiie he was looking OP. the upder-man- agetr came up, and woke him. Defendant denied1 having slept. Defendant eross-examim-d the witmess, and wanted to know* why he did net take his lamp; and witness- said the pnder-managre was coming up close behind. Mr Fiederick Wesley Davies, the unner mamager, corroborated. The defendant elected to gin1 evideice on oath, and. swore that he went into thai heading to take a rest with others and when the others went away, he remained lying down, but not asleep. He was allowed- t; work that. dav, but was stopped the follow- ing day. He also detailed some conversa- tion which he had with Mr Davies. the under-managerand said that Mr Davies told; ham) he could not prove that he was asleep. He'was cross-examined1 bv Mr Kenshke, but he a.dhered to his story. The Bench held that the case was prove k and! inflicted a fine of ios. and costs fo.r sleeping im the mine.
