fM TRADE u HUMAN Haib. Anong the minor sins most frequently heM up to tttecration i- the wearing of false hair. How world. wide is this .tl)od of repairing the ravages of time in shewn in the courts of an article dealing with the trade in human hair. It appears that that frown on the heads of Northern nations is the most valuable, both because of its supcri Ir fineness and loss and its cotour. Germany and Sweden provide hair greatly valuable, especially if it be of that jolden blonde which is of the finest texture and of a colour impossible to obtain by artificial dyes6 On the other hand, Italy and other Southern matiodr, produce only coarser and less costly varieties. Most precious of all, however, is hair of a true silver-gre) colour, which, in sufficiently long plaits, is almost impossible to procure, chiefly from the fact that its very rarity causes those women lucky enough to possess it to refuse to part with it. The most constant supply of liurntn half for the world's market, 1 !\vever, comes from the peasant <■ \rls in counlrits such as %a4 Qalicla,
