UP AND DOWN THE COAST. TICK ETS PLEASE. :Railway official (blandly)-Tickets, please. Young Lady (handing a tattered, crumpled, dirty, piece of paper, and sighing with relief)— There you are. Railway Official (looking somewhat startled, but talcing ttv> paper cautiously by one of the jagged coiners)—What is this ? Young Lady (inquisitively, and with a look of firmness) '—Did not you say "Tickets, please?" (With another sigh of relief.) You have got it. Railway Official (holding up the paper and examining it doubtfullyj—This Young Lady (unlocking her satchel)—Yes. It is worn out with looking at it. Railway Official (in a most expressive tone of voice)—On Gentleman Passenger (after a pause, and with consider- able diffidence)—Why is a young lady unlike a tourist's railway ticket ? Second Ditto (gleefully)—Because you are not glau to give her up. Third Ditto (with -lticked \'emphasis)—Because she is The Young Lady {smiling at the gentleman passenger)— Bec ause you cannot wear her out by looking at her. Railway Official (throwing the carriage door open)— Tickets, please. Oh (shutting it again with a bang) I havejbeen here before. THE COLORADO BEETLE. This beetle lias not yet appeared on the Coast. When it comes, or before, if my agricultural friends are anxious, I vrfll use my influence (which is great) with the Govern- ment to prohibit the importation of American potatoes until they are boiled If the importation of live cattle and raw potatoes can be stopped farmers will then have a chance. This Colorado beetle, which has been magnified te the size of a brick, is a most formidable looking insect, and ought to be legislated against without delay. Farmers and agricultural papers will make a good thing of this keetle if they can obtain compensation from Government for its supposed devastations. My friends will agree with me that potatoes ought to be boiled in future before they leave American ports. That is the only way to cook the Colorado beetle, and it is a wonder somebody did not think of this plan before. Most likely they did, and I have copied it from them. One is so apt to repeat other peopl suggestions under the impression that they are nr own* TREGARON MARKET HALL. John Jones writes to say that this hall is now finished. That Colonel Powell's interest in the town of Tregaron is not a mere matter of words is shown very clearly in this hall, which affords accommodation for magisterial and other meetings not usually found in buildings of the kind. The greatest compliment that could be paid to him would be for the country people to nse it freely, and leave the Bridge over the river. When will the papers announce the first County Court at Tregaron ? All that Tregaron requires to make it the best and most popular place in the district, for visitors who want to send their families from the seaside, is a supply of water from the hill behind the town. I was always fond of Tregaron, and I shall be fonder of it than ever when it is a little prouder of itself. Why do not some of the inhabitants start an industry of some kind ? THE LAW AND THE GOSPEL. A writ, sirs, and not the Holy Writ but a vulgar legal document about pounds, shillings and pence. Ah, it is deeply to be regretted that the religious world cannot get along without money. Fancy the following for an auc- tion :— TO TUB THUMPERS, &c. GRAND INVESTMENT. Mr. Nokemdown has been favoured with instructions by the trustees of Sermon Chapel, near Perry inkle's bi t of a place on the Coast to Sell by Auction on the 33rd of August, at midnight, all that Freehold Preaching House and land, together with a Kist of Whistles as go Jd as new No reasonable offer refused. Just think of the hJrror a bill of this kind would create all Upland Down the Coast. A writ, sirs. Can it be true?
