REVIEW OF THE CORN TRADE. ♦ In the early part of the week heavy rain appears to have been experienced to the eastward and north of London, but in the immediate neighbourhood of the metropolis only a few light showers have fallen, scarcely sufficient to lay the dust. As yet we hear ot comparatively few complaints respecting the effect of the long-continued drought. There can, however, be little doubt that the crops of spring-sown corn and pulse would be greatly benefitted by a copious supply of moisture and if the rain should hold off much longer, the second crop of grass is likely to be very short. Wheat is still well spoken of indeed, that plant generally thrives with such weather as we have ex- perienced smce the end of May a moderate fall 01 rain would, however, now prove of great service, by causing the ears to fill. The potatoe disease does not appear to be extending and we are induced to hope that the produce of this useful root will be much larger in quantity and of better quality than has been the case in any year since 1846. In every previous season since the first appearance of the disorder in this country the symptoms of the blight exhibited themselves palpably in the early part of July and the comparatively healthy aspect of the crop, up to the present time, affords grounds for believing that the evil is on the decrease. The wheat trade has maintained a firm tone, but there has been a want of actiirity in the demand, which has rendered it difficult to obtain any advance on previous prices. The.supplies from the farmers, though still very small, have slightly increased, and tolerable receipts of wheat from the Mediterranean, Black Sea, &c., and rather a large arrival of flour from America, into Liver- pool, have, coupled with the fine weather, and generally satis- factory reports from the agricultural districts respecting the crop., induced caution on the part of millers and merchants in con- ducting their operations. At the leading consuming towns the value of wheat hu remained very nearly stationary and though the shortness of the de- liveries from the growers has led to a partial rise of Is. per qr. at some of the farmer's markets, that enhancement has been paid with evident reluctance. From Scotland we learn that the temperature, which had been very low in the early part of the week, had subsequently risen, and the latest advices from thence speak well of the weather. The harvest would, however, it was leared, be late-alway, a great disadvantage in the north. The giain trade was very firm on Wednesday, both at Edinburgh and Glasgow, and rather higher prices were obtained, not only for wheat, but likewise for oats and barley. Fr m Ireland the reports are decidedly favourable in reference to the prospects for next harvest; and the potatoe blightismuch less ta!ked of than was the case a fortnight ago owing, however, to the recent rise in prices on this side of the ohannel, full terms had been demanded for every article except Indian corn, which had rather receded in value.-Mark Lane Express.
