I wish to seek the honour of represent- ing my fellow ratepayers on the Town Council. Unsupported by any political party, I submit my name as an independent can- didate to the gocd sense and judgment of the electors, whom I shall not insult by canvassmg for their votes. My only desire is to serve the highest welfare of the town,—to develop its abundant resources as a holiday resort for visitors and to make it a pleasant, healthy home for its residents. My vote tn every question will be given according to an henest and independent opinion, and it is my conviction that the efficiency of the Council depends on giv- ing the fullest publicity to its proceedings. If you think that I can be of any real service to your interests, you will kindly give me your ardent support on the 26th inst. If you prefer others, I shall be quite satisfied. Believe me to be ytours very respect- fully., EDWARD EDWARDS, Bronallt, Bronallt. Caradog-road, November 21st. r691 TOWN COUNCIL BYE-ELECTION, 1910. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE BORDUGH OF ABERYSTWYTH. Ladies and Gentlemen,— At the request of a large number of Ratepayers, I have consented to become a Candidate for one of the two vacant seats on the Town Council on the 26th November next. At the outset, I may tell you I am a native of Aberystwyth, and a tradesman getting my living therein, sfo that I have absolutely nothing but the best interests of the Town at heart, and my chief aim is to see Aberystwyth in a thriving state. That being so, we as tradesmen and rate- payers generally, are bound it benefit. I place myself before you absolutely as an Independent Candidate., and I am firmly of opinion that the time has ar- rived when the business of the Town shall be done in open Council, without pledging myself to any party or clique whatever. I am in favour of the ratepayers know- ing mere of how their money is spent. We have a Corporate Estate which brings in £ 3,000 per annum, whilst the rates amount to ±311,000. The ratepayers should know more of how this vast sum is being! spent. I am strongly in favour of a good band being engaged—augmented by the best of our local musicians-to play on the Prom- enade, as 1 think it is essential to a sea- side resort to cater for the enjoyment of visitors, but I should want to be assured that we get value for our money. I am of opinion that the restrictions put on boatmen and hackney carriage propri- etors must not be too severe, for we must not lose sight of the fact that they are all ratepayers, and have only a very short season in which to earn their livelihood. I am strongly opposed to the present system of town scavenging, which I con- sider to be incomplete, and altogether un- worthy of a town which claims to be the 1 Queen of Welsh Resorts. It is unreasdS- able that householders should Be expected to place refuse out over night, which is a danger to the public and might eventu- ally land the ratepayers, through an acci- dent, in a lawsuit. It is also a hardship on the workmen to be expected to be at work from seven a.m. to one p.m. without an interval for food. I am strongly opposed to canvassing, as I think it is degrading bloth to canvasser and canvassed, therefore I hope this in- timation of my candidature will Ue suffi- cient to induce you to place a X opposite my name—No. 6 on the Ballot Paper— at the Town Hall on the 26th instant. I am., Ladies and Gentlemen, Yours faithfully, J. D. WILLIAMS. Terrace Road. November, 1910. r702 TOWN COUNCIL BYE-ELECTION, 1910. TO THE, ELECTORS OF THE BOROUGH OF ABERYSTWYTH. Ladies and Gentlemen, At the request cf a large and influential number of ratepayers, I have consented to offer my services for one of the two seatsl now vacant. There are a number of questions to be dealt with in the near future, but I do not believe in making rash promises, as I should not be able to carry into effect any scheme without the co-operation of the ether members of the Council. The questions of the band and the foreign foreman have already been dis- cussed, and I will do all in my power to save a recurrence of a similar action, believing that there are as capable men in Aberystwyth as there are in any other parts of the country. The Corporation workmen have their grievances, and I shall be very glad to give them my support in removing them. We have heard ai good deal about Winter Gardens in the past but up to the present without effect, and if elected I will do my utmost to brine this great want for a fashionable Seaside Resort to a successful issue. I am entirely in your hands, and should you deem me worthy of your support, I will endeavour to carry out your wishes conscientiously, without fear or favour. j' I am, Ladies and Gentlemen, Your Obedient Servant, I D. MORGAN. 18, Pier-street, Aberystwyth. r705 BUSINESS ADDRESSES.
