CORWEN.
CORWEN. The annual meeting of the Nursing Associa- tion was held at the Assembly Room on Friday, the Hon. Mrs. Wynn presiding. The Committee reported that on the whole sub- scriptions were well maintained during the war, but JS65 Is 9d. did not adequately represent | what the district should contribute to so worthy a cause. Receipts amounted to C257 6s. lOd; expenditure, S290 12s. 8d. The difference be- f tween the normal receipts and expenditure was approximately B100 on the debit'side which re- presented an equivalent sum contributed. by Mrs. Williams of Angharad in aid °* the cost of experimentally engaging the services of a village nurse to undertake midwifery work principally. Nurse Thomas acquired her .M B. certificate so that she was now qualified to undertake both midwifery and district work. The income of the Association was in- aufficient to maintain two nurses. The- number of cases dealt with by the nurse during the period covered by this report was 201; total number of visits 4,009. She was also twen .y- hix nights on night duty. The village nurse dealt with sixty-one cases and her total number of visits was 1,569 The report and' accounts were unanimously passed, and the President and Committee warmly thanked for their services. i The Hon. Secretary stated £ 65 Is. 9d was too small an amount to raise throughout the iflistrict. He wished it could be increased to £ 100 md thus avoid the necessity of jumble Sales and the like. If the majority of sub- t scribers doubled their donations the requisi tttmount would be forthcoming. I i > The Hon. Mrs. WynD was re-elected pre- sidect.

I was continually poulticing the abscess, but still it would not heal. One day sotneone advised me to try 'Clarke's Blood Mixture,' and after taking two bottles I could see a great difference, eo I continued with it, and after taking the third bottle it had dis- appeared. I was quite run down, weak, and very tun, but as soon as the abscess bad healed I began to fill out again." Abscesses, Ulcers, Bad Legs, Glandular Swellings, Eczema, Boils, Pimples, Sores and Eruptions, Piles, Rheumatism, are all sure signs of clogging blood impurity, calling for immediate treatment through the blood (outward application is of little use). Mr. Barnett responded suitably. Mr. E. L. Rowlands proposed Mr. R O. Richards as chairman. Mr W. Jones Hughes seconded, and it was carried. Mr. Meredith Jones, the retiring chairman, thanked the Council for their support: He bad had the honour of having been in the chair the year armistice was signed and he hoped peace would be signed during Mr. Richards' term Mr. Richards thanked the Council for his appoint- ment, and proposed a vote of thanks to the old Chairman for his work and excellent attend- ance. The Railway Executive Committee wrote that as over 700 railway engines and trains were sent over to France during the war, and that owing to labour difficulty and shortage of materials, a good number of the engines were out of repair, it. was* desirable that visitors who could should take thtrr holidays sooner in the year in order to avoid a big crush and heavy railway traffic.—Mr E. L. Rowlands said it would be an advantage to the district if people came for their holidays in May and July as the hotel and boarding housekeepers could let their houses many times over in August. He proposed that they write to the Committee that they were in favour of earlier holidays.—Mr. Rees Davies complained of the bad railway facilities for the coast. When visitors came by fast train they were stopped, a*. Machynlleth where they had to wait for about two hours and while waiting t<hey saw three or four trains passing through to Aberystwyth. I Dolgelley Guardians. CHAMPIONING THE POOR GUARDIANS OF POOR OR RATES? At the annual meeting of Dolgelley Guardians on Saturday, Mr. Lewis Price was appointed chairman. In taking the chair, Mr. Price welcomed the twelve new members. Mrs. Morgan, Barmouth, was appointed vice-chair- man. It was decided not to elect any co- optative members.—With regard to the Board- ing Out Committee, Mrs. Morgan said women would have to be appointed as men did not take enough interest in children. Mrs. R. C. Evans, Miss Charles, and Miss Elsie Jones, Dyffryn, had visited children's homes and seen to their welfare. At one time Mrs. Evans had nine children under her care.It was decided that the three women guardians-Mrs. Morgan. Mrs. Pugh, and Mrs. Wynne Mills—should be on the Committee. Mr. Ellis Jones Edwards called attention to a case of out-relief which was receiving atten. tion, the woman having applied for an in- crease. He said 10s. was given to the woman with a. family of three. That was her sole in- come and was insufficient. He had been told that she was obliged to sell her flrniture in order to live. The Guardians were guardians of the poor and not of the rates. He was afraid there was a tendency to sweat paupers by giving them insufficient relief. The Guardians were giving war bonus to officials and the paupers should be given war bonus too. —Mrs. Morgan assured Mr. Edwards that the average out relief given had doubled during the war.—The relief was increased to 12s 6d. Letters "were read from rate collectors ex- pressing dissatisfaction at the ii.crease in war bonus of five per cent., making their total fifteen per cent. They asked the Guardians to give them a fifty per cent increase. l'he work had trebled and they intended write to the Poor Law Officers' Association with regard to the matter.—Mr. Owen Ellis said war bonus should only be given to whole time workers.—Mr. David Jones asked why the rate collectors had not applied before?—Mr James Lewis proposed that the matter should be deferred for two u)onths.-M- William Owen said the position of rate ocHector -to a very important one and to keep the cnilertors out of temptation better salaries shou.d be paid -The discussion was deferred for two months. I A resolution by Pershore Union protesting against unemployment benet4- being paid to persons wno previously wers only casually em- ployed and stating taat many persons who were receiving tno benefit, had no desire to find work, was adopted.
