MOiNiEY MARKET.
MOiNiEY MARKET. LONDON, WEDNESDAY EVENING. The position of the Money Market re- maina much about the same. No further change has occurred in the American Ex- change, but the chance of large parcels cf gold going to New York has not been diminished. Capital is fairly plentiful, and the demand for it strong. With moderate inquiry for day-to-day loans, the charge for them is 1 yer cent. Three months' Bills are diacounted at 15 to 2 per cent. Stock Exchange business remained very quiet, but had a healthy appearance. The value of foreign Securities is well supported by continual Operations, and Home Stocks, with very little passing in them, are on the whole firm. The cheapness of money, more settled weather, and less anxiety in connec- tion with Eastern affairs combined to pro- duce steadiness. Trade prospects also are deemed satisfactory, but there is too little doing for quotations to be much influenced. Consols were unaltered, at 971 to 9/g for deliverv, and 97 to fS for the account. Re ucad and New Three 1 er Cents were 93g to Uf, Business in English Railways was very quiet, but the traffic statements were, on the whole, favourable, more particularly those issued by Great Western and North Eastern. No disposition was, however, shown to oper- ate, and the market remained without fea- ture up to the close. The statement of the Sheffield company shows a gain in the net revenue up to July 25th, of £ 2,3c5. Reports from Continental bourses all denoted strength, and firmness prevailed here in consequence. Egyptian y issues, more especially Preference, were in demand, and Hungarian Gold Bends were better. CORllESFOKDEKCE. THE REV. T. JOXES.—A SUGGESTION. To the Editor of the SOUTH WALES DAILY NEWS. SIR,-ln your in.pressiou of the 2nd in-,t, there appears a letter he ded as above, aud signed, "A Visitor," who state1, in reference to the Wealeyan [ Chapel, Sketiy, "It is evident that the cl.apel is quite thrown away on the mere handful of people Chapel, Sketiy, "It is evident that the ci.apef is quite thrown away on the mere handful of people who are regular attendants," and, "If I mistake < not the Wealeyans would be very ready to e- lieve themselves of this financial buiden, espe- cially as tley have their old chapel still vacant, and w deli Las more than adequate accommodation for the regular congregation. This is a startling and most erroneous assertion, and I reluctantly trespa-s upon your valuable space for the iusertion of the following facts:— Finding the old chapel afforded insufficient accommodation for our regular atteudants we decided to build another, which was opened about four years ago at a total cost of £ 1,800, of whieh amount £ 1,100 L: s been paid off (this, I think, is very creditable to a society neither large nor well-to-do),and,as we ex- pected, our congregation has greatly increased, so that the old chapel, far from being able to hold more than the regular attendama, would barely hold one half of them in fact, it is scarcely large enough for our Sunday school, which is still ield there. I "A Visitor also m:.kes reference to the at. tractive ritual of the Church of England," and I feel it right to strde that, as a body, we {sincerely respect the Rev. W. E. luey, and have always found him ready to assist us when it lay in his power. One inference the "Visitor" dra'vs is quite correct, viz., that we would be very glad to re- li v-e ourselves of the financial burden," and I am sare the secretary or any of the trustees will be very pleased to receive a contribution from him for that purpose.—I am, &c„ A TRUSTEE. WATER SUPPLY FOB LLANDAFF.—A deputation, consisting of the members of the Cardiff Rural Sanitary Authority residing at Llandaff, waited on the Corporation Waterworks Committee, at their meeting on Saturday, with reference to the supply of Llandaff with water. The Rural Sani. tary Authority had had a scheme of water supply prepared by Mr Waring, C.E., the scheme pro. posing to abstract the water required from the brook at Whitchurch, but this could only be car- ried out with the consent of the Cardiff Corpora- tion, or on their refusal to supply Llandaff with water. A long dillcuioll took place, and it ap- peared that although at one time the inhabi- tants of. LlandafÏ objected to be supplied with water from the Eiy River, they did not now so object, and the meeting was adjourned for a week, in Order to ascertain what sum t e inhabitants would be prepared to guarantee to the Corporation ;;nnualiy for a supply of water, which it was believed could be supplied from the Penhill reservoir, after being pumped from t e Ely.
