CORN.
CORN. LONDON, MOlI.day.-The provincial markets helc on Saturday were very moderately supplied witt home-grown wheat, but owing to the fiue weather, and to the continued downward move- ment in the prices in New York the trade was dull, and a fall of Is to 2s per quarter took place in the quotations. It is estimated that the sales in the United Kingdom amounted last week to 110,500 quarters, against 190,560 quarters last year. The smaJI quantities of barley offering changed hands at late rates, but oats, beans, and peas were in steady request at full prices. The flour trade was dull, and quotations had a downward tendency. On the Continent the weather has been favourable to the growing crops, and the decline in prices in New York has enabled buyers to make purchases on easier terms. The reduc- tion in the United States during the week has been in wheat about 2s per quarter, and flour and Indian corn are also cheaper. Influenced again by meteorological considerations and the flatness prevalent abroad, the trade was extremely heavy at Mark-lane to-day. English wheat was Is to 2s., and foreign 2s to 3s per quarter cheaper than on Mondav last. As regards the latter Russian, produce was the best held, the fall in few cases exceeding 2s per quarter. The attend- ance was moderate, but there was very little doing even at the reduction. Barley was dull and cheaper to sell. The malting season is now over. Malt moved somewhat in favour of buyers. Oats were in limited request and the turn lower; while maize, for which there was a very poor in- quiry, suffered to the extent of another 6d per quarter. Beans were steady. Peas met with a small demand and were slightly easier. Flour was decidedly flat, both sacks and barrels being a good Is cheaper.
CATTLE.
CATTLE. LONDON, Monday.-We have a larger supply both of English and foreign beasts, consequently trade is slower and prices on the average are not so good. There is not much reduction in choicest qualities, but it is difficult to clear out the inferior kinds. The number of sheep is very small, especially of choice qualities; these meet with a ready sale at higher rates. Good lambs and calves are also scarce, and make high prices. Our foreign supply consists of 1,030 beasts, 40 sheep, and 10 calves. From Scotland there are 270 beasts; Ireland, 50; Norfolk, Suffolk, and Essex, 1,300: Midland and home counties, 1,020. Best Scots, Herefords, 5s 8dto6s; best short. horns, 5s 6d to 5s 8d second quality beasts, 4s 6dto 5s 2d; calves, 5s 6d to 7s; pigs, 4s 6d to 5s 4d; best Downs and half-bred sheep, 6s 6d to 6s 8d; best shorn, 6s to 6s 4d; ewes do. shorn, 5s 4d to 5s 8d: lambs 8s 6d to 9s 6d, per 81b. Beasts at market, 3,670; sheep lambs, 10,470; calves, 160; pigs, 30. LIVERPOOL, Monday—The supply of cattle at market was rather larger and of sheep less than on last Monday. The demand very good for each at higher prices. An unusually large number of emigrant ships left port last week, and they required a large quantity of Fresh meat. Butchers' shops were consequently well cleared. The total arrivals of American cattle were for the week 1,300; of fresh meat, 2,000 carcases, besides mutton and pork. Beef 61 d to 9d per lb.9 Mutton, 8d to lid per lb. There were 1,130 cattle and 2,342 sheep at market.
PRODUCE.
PRODUCE. LONDON, Tuesday,—Sugar: The market was flat, and prices rather easier: no public sales to-day. Coffee Good quantity offered at generally steady rates. Tea: Of the large quantity China offered to-day, about 8000 packages sold at about former values; Indian dull.
POTATOES.
POTATOES. LONDON, Monday.—Home-grown potatoes com- mand a ready sale and full prices, but the trade seems dull as regards foreign, owing to extensive supplies. Scotch regents, 140s. to 160s. ditto Champions 180s. to 200s. Lincoln ditto, 180s. to 190s. Victories, 160s. to 180s. per ton; German reds, 4s. 6d. to 7s. Dutch rocks, 4a. 6d.; and French ¡ whites, 4s. 6d. per bag. ———
WOOL.
WOOL. BRADFORD, Monday.—The wool market is less active than it was, but[though]there is less inclina- tion to purchase wool, quotations are generally firmly sustained. The aggregate turn over for immediate consumption, though less than it was a fortnight ago, is still considerable. Staplers do not press sales and show no disposition to yield any concession in the face of the Arm rates maintained in the country. All seem to be waiting the result of the opening of the London wool sales, many expecting that present rates will be fully sustained. A steady business is doing in the yarn market. Ex- port merchants make efforts to place orders which they hold at easier rates, but without success. Spin- ners maintain quotations with a marked degree of firmness. Some small orders have been placed in twofold 32's and 40's. There is also some inquiry in single yarns. A fair amount of business is doing on home account. The piece market also shows some degree of languor. The recent advance in wool has had the effect of inducing caution on the part of both manufacturers and merchants, and there is less business doing both for home and export. Some small orders are placed by both homeand export merchants, and prices are well maintained.
