Roberts: The deceased was acoustomefl to take charge of the waggons at the top of the (incline. There were no brakeu on the waggons, and there were many waggons belonging to the Narrow Gauge Company without brakes. Owen Jones, slate Loader at the loel- tryfan Quarry, sai'd that he brought smiie trucks to the t-ap of the incline on the day the acei-aciit occurred. He met the de- ceased on the top of the incline. It wa& the deceased's duty to take charge of the truck* from the place: where the accident took place. Witness assisted the deceased that day, as he very often did. Tlicy had thevr backs to the waggons. Hughes's foot went between the rail-, and he fell across the line. Witness and the last witness pre- vented the waggons from running over the deceased. Deceased spote to them, asking them to try to stop the bleeding.—In answer to the coroner, wit nes-s sa'd that they considered it a part ct Hughes'^ work to take charge of the trucks at the top of the incline. The Cctroiner asked whether there were any regulations that the quarry employees were to assist- in this work. Mr Aitchimsc-n replied n the negative, and said it wak; merely all arrangement be- tween the quarry employees and the rail- way officer. Merioneth Quarter Sessions and Police Committee. The Merioneth Quarter Sessions were held on Tuesday, at Dolgalley, before Mr I W. R. M. Wynne and a full bench.—The Chairman, addressing the Grand Jury, said I that he had hops.'d that the old ycatr wquld close without any case, Iiaving to come be- fore them.
