PWLLHELI Mr Richard Roberts,, solicitor, has accepted, the office of treasurer of the Con- gregational Pastors' Provident Society of Wales, in succession to Mr Thomas Wil- liams, of Merthyr Tydvil, who. resigned the othee owing to the weak state of his health. RENT AUDITS--The rents 4 Nan- boron and Bodvean Estates wore paid on New YearH^Day. MONEY BO-oO.'S--The. Mayor (Alder- man R. O. Jones) gave money to every child in tho borough who kept a monoy box, for the purpose of encouraging thrift. MISSION WORK.—A week's mission work is to be started next Monday in Sgifftan and other parts of tha town. Rosina Davies, the evangelist, will preach and sing. WELL DONE, PWLLHELI'!— 1hc competitofii who won prizes at various Christmas eisteddfodau were the Rev J. Jiimeo (B.), who was the best, out of 50 competitors; Rev Ellis Jones, Mr J. E. Pxichard, Mr J. O. Jones (Arifog), Mr R. E. Williams, Mr R. F. WilliamB„and otliet,, ZOAR LODGE.—The members of this lodge' were entertained to tea,, «tc., pre- pared by Mr and MTS Eifl Jone, la-,t week. The tea was followed by an entertainment, in which the following took part:—Messrs Huwco Jones, James Roberts, Q. Jones, W. J. Williams, and Miss Rhoda Wil- flams. THE Y.M.A.—The programme drawn out by the Y.M.A. for the Watchnight- was carried out. by Messrs J. Ellis, James Ellis,, D. J.. Jones, T. Da-viea. R. T. Ro- berts, W. J. Griffith, B.Sc., R. Hughes, W. E. Williams, E. A. James, T. Owen, w- J. Williams,, W. Evans, R. Williams, O. J. Davies, and others. Mr John Row- lands conducted the meeting. THE LIBERALS.—Some of the most active young Liberal gave a dinner on New Year's Ere, at the Town Hall, and it was well attended. The tables were- in charge of a number of young ladies. After dinner a miscellaneous .programme was i gone through, amongst those who took I' part being Messrs W. Eífi Jones, R. Mason Jones, A. Ivor Parry, D. J. Jones, John Roberts, T. Humphreys, C. 0. Roberts, and other?. Mr Evan R. Davies presided. THE NEW MASTER AND MATRON. I -Mr and Mrs Henry Jones, the new master and matron of the Workhouse, ¡ have taken u.p their duties. The Guard- ians have resolved to ask the Local Gov- ernment Board to allow them to grant pen- sions of JES2 and £20 to the retiring mas- ter and matron respectively. Mr J. P. Watkin could have claimed his pension many years ago, but he continued to fui-, fit his duties up to last week, and that moo" efficiently, though 83 years old. Miss Griffith, the retiring matron, had also carried out her dirties most satisfactorily. BRIGHTENING -CHn..DRE'S LIVES. —Mr W. Ashley Jones, solicitor, Bangor, has been in the habit of brightening the JiVef; of the little children who attend Saind street Mission School, by sending them every year beautiful Christmas cards with Scriptural pictures on them. He did so this year, and the friends in charge of the school feel very much indebted to him. The cards were highly appreciated by the youngsters. It seems that Mr Ashley Jones got to know seme years ago of the pood done at the above Mission. School, and he has every year since then sent cards to the scholars. Mr Ashley Jones also sent cards and a .subscription to the little chapel at Llannor. MISCELLANEOUS —Rev E. Myrddm Reos is improving Th health.—Capt. Jones, the local superintendent of lifeboats, has just finished his inspection of the boats, and has found them in -ood working order.—Mr J. O. Jones (Arifog) read a paper on the late Professor Drummond, at Salem Literarv So- ciety, In.-t- week. Mr John Griffith was in the eVair Rev T. Griffith presiding.—On Boxing night the Cymric Quartette, assisted by Miss Eames, gave a concert at Salem Chapel Vestry Room. Alderman R. O. •Tones (Mayor) was the chairman.—Dr Hunter Hughes held an inquest w?ek I oil the body of a child belonging to Mr and Mrs J-onejc, Wrexham.
