Induction Services at Gadlys.|
Induction Services at Gadlys. Last Sunday and Monday, the induction meeting of Mr. Myles Griffiths of Bangor College, tooli place at Gadlys Baptist Chapel. Mr. Griffiths, who is a native of Neath, has come here in response to an unanimous call from the energetic church of the late Rev. Benjamin Evans, generally known as Gadlys Bishop." On Sunday, the Rev. D. W. Hopkins, Neath, and Principal Morris, Bangor, preached to crowded meeting and suitable solos were sung by Mrs. Lewis, C'wmbaeh, and Mr. T. S. Jones, Neath. On Monday afternoon, the formal induction service was held over which the Rev. W. Harris, Heolyfelin, presided. The first speaker was the Rev. W. S. Evans, Caer. philly. Afterwards, Mr. W. E. Davies, a deacon of Gadlys Church, gave an account of the call, and the response of Mr. Griffiths, and on behalf of the church, lie extended him a hearty welcome. Mr. Griffiths, in a few well-chosen words tendered his appre- ciation of the same. Letters and telegrams expressing inability to be present were read from the Revs. Fred Morgan and Hughes, Mountain Ash, and from two of Mr. Griffiths' fellow-students. Then Principal Morris gave some pertinent questions to Mr. Miles, which he answered with evident sincerity. After the Rev. T. Davies, Gwawr, had offered a prayer, Principal Morris was called upon to deliver the charge to the minister. In his introductory remarks, he paid a high compliment to Mr. Griffiths as a student, and then preached a very appropriate ser- mon. At this juncture, Mr. Thomas, a Gadlys deacon, presented lIfr. Griffiths, on behalf of the church, with a purse of gold. Then Mr. W. Jones, on behalf of Betliania, Neath—Mr. Griffiths' motlier-chureli,-pre. sented him with Dr. Parker's People's Bible," (25 vols.) Mr. Jones paid a high tribute to Mr. Griffiths' character as a young man. The latter with visible emotion briefly thanked the donors for the valuable gifts handed to him. Subsequently ad- 71 dresses were given by the following :-lYIr. D. A. Williams, (representing Mr. Griffiths' fellow students); the Revs. D. W. Hopkins, Neatli; J. Griffiths, (Calfaria) H. T. Step- hens, (Carmel); H. J. Harries, Neath, one of the Gadlys sons; and Hopkins, (Scranton, U.S.A.) The Rev. J. Mills, Abernant, finished the meeting with a prayer. In the evening, Mr. Hopkins, Neath, preached the charge to the church, and Mr. Jones, Seion, Merthyr, also officiated. The chapel was crammed at each meeting, and it is hoped that the union of pastor and church will have a fruitful issue.

Price on behalf of the Aberdare Certificated Teachers Association, requesting that an annual increment of RlO per year should substitute the present JM per year in their salaries. They were availing themselves of the pre. sent opportunity to make this request, because the School Boards were doomed, and their work to be taken over bv bodies that were quite inexperienced in these matters. A number of Boards in Wales had granted this request, and they wished to include Aberdare with them, The Chair- man said that his opinion on this matter was the same as when the previous appli- cation was made. It was unreasonable. Let the new authority take it over when it came to existence, he said. He would propose that they write to them. that they could not entertain the application.
