The Rev. R. B. Jones at Carmel, Aberdare. A FIVE DAYS' MISSION. On Friday evening the Rev. E. B. Jones, the Ynyshir revivalist, concluded his five days' mission at Carmel English Baptist Church, Aberdaxe. Good attend- ance and a high flow of spiritual fervour marked all the meetings, although the "hwyl" was not quite so pronounced as that generally experienced at Welsh re- vival meetings. Mr. Jones gave on each night an impressive, fervid, and most joavincing address, during the delivery )f which the most perfect order prevailed. A-fter 'his address aa opportunity for spontaneous utterances would be given, md there was no lack of speakers. Song md prayer oftentimes intermingled in a lappy blend. One night the meeting was considerably interrupted ;by a man under the influence of drink, who had staggered into the edifice. Strange to say a similar incident happened on the following nighjt, when another intoxi- cated person entered the chapel, and caused no little disturbance. Eventually it was found necessary to eject the in- trader. On Thursday evening the meeting was of an intensely devotional character, and the wave of religious fervour appeared to be at its zenith when a woman in the congregation swooned and had to be car- ried out. This unfortunate event damped the ardoux of the worshippers tempor- arily, but subs-equently the meeting re- sumed its high tone of devotion. The missioner asked for testimonies, and im- mediately a host of converts responded with wonderful narratives of their in- ward experiences of the power of saving grace. A very young girl got up, and with remarkable fluency for one of her tender years denounced without mercy the apathy and the sinfulness of the churches. A young man followed with a rather lengthy discourse, and the con- gregation showed signs of impatience. Mr. Jones got up and observed that they wanted testimonies, not sermons. The congregation were not slow in detecting in his observation a mild reprimand to the sermoniser, and subsequent speakers confined themselves to absolute testimon- ies. On Friday night Mr. Jones gave a very powerful, analytical, and illustrative dis- course on "Sacrifice." The strictest order prevailed, but the fervour and de- votion was not diminished in the least. CARMEL (B.), ABERDARE. Mr. W. Turpitt, B.A., was the occu- pant of the pulpit of Carmel English Baptist Church on Sunday. Mr. Turpitt, who is now entering upon a course in Cardiff Theological College, commenced life as a collier, and is a native of Tre- degar. He has naw earned distinction as a scholar and a preacher, and at Carmel on Sunday morning and evening won golden opinions from many who heard him. Next Sunday the ex-pastor of the church, the Rev. T. Jones, will .preach, and the friends at Carmel will avail themselves of his visit to the scene of his former labours to present him with a testimonial on Monday evening.
