Evans our congratulations on his being raised to the position of High Constable of Mis- kin Higher.—Con Regan, as representa- tive of Miskin Lower, suggested that Bolger should convey the resolution personally.—Agreed.—Charlottee Hen- nessey wanted to know if it was heavy to carry; if so, she volunteered to help him. Torch-Loight Procession.—The idea was thrown out roight on to the road for a torch-loight procession, an' it was agreed that three such processions could be arranged one to come down Llanwonno Road, one down Grays Lane, an' the other from Cefnpennar, an' the soight would prove viry effective afther dark.—Shoni Pipes stharted to sing, When it was dark."—Charlottee said it would be viry nice to have the Coun- cil photographed an' prisint one to Sir Edward.-Bolger said-whin Spud said to remimber he was not on the Education Committee.—Mike Dunavui proposed that a Guard of Honur Le formed from the Mount Constitutionil Club. Carried unanimously.—CnarJie trated the Council to Lime Juice, an' Spud thanked him. —It was also decid- ed that the Council join the Primrose League en bloc.—Tom wanted to know if thire were any Cups to be played for. -Oi said jio, but thire wire medals. Aberdare Presentation.
Aberdare Presentation. At the Constitutional Club, Aberdare, on Monday night a presentation of a gold watch and chain and purse of gold was made to Mr. T. D. Jones, deputy- Director of Education under the Aber- dare Authority, in recognition of his services as a member of the committee for a period of seventeen years. Coun- cillor A. P. Jones made the presenta- tion, and referred in eulogistic terms to the recipient's long and faithful ser- vice to the club. Mr. Jones suitably responded. Amongst those present were: Messrs. A. C. Fox-Davies, Unionist can- didate for the constituency; Ted Davies, chairman, Central Conservative Club, Cardiff; H. Hart, secretary to the South Wales and Monmouthshire Foot- ball Association; D. Hammond, R. J. Richards, Conservative Agent, and W. Notton, who presided. Mr. Fox-Davies, on rising to address the members, had a rousing reception. He gave a most practical and edifying address on "Club Life," which was attentively listened to. The musical programme was as follows:—Overture, Mr. R. Everett; descriptive song, Mr. Sam Miles; tenor songs, Mr. Willie Thomas; comic songs, Mr. Arthur Evans, Caerphilly; bari- tone songs, Mr. D. Pennar Williams, Mountain Ash; comic songs, Master Phil Peek, the rising young comedian of Nelson, whose father is an old Aber- darian. Tenor song, Mr. T. Davies, Aberaman. Special turn from the Aber- dare Empire (by the kind permission of Mr. Arthur Norton, manager). Duett, Messrs. W. Thomas and D. P. Wil- liams. fr. D. Hammond proposed a vote of thanks to Mr. Fox Davies and the artistes and also to the director of the programme. This was seconded by Mr. Austin Hughes, Aberaman. 'Mr. T. D. Jones proposed a vote of thanks to the chairman. He was seconded by a gentleman from Cardiff, and the chair- man responded. The singing of "Hen Wlad fy Nhadau." Mr. Rees James taking the solo, and "God Save the King/' Mr. Tom Thomas being the soloist, brought to a close a splendid mneker*

School Governors' Quarrels What Led up to Monday's Council Scene. On page 2 of this issue will be seen a report of an angry scene which took place between Mr T. Walter Williams and Mr L. N. Williams, J.P., at the Aberdare District Council on Monday. With the view of eliciting the origin of the quarrel and of knowing more about the three "illustrations" given by Mr T. W. Williams, our reporter saw some of the Governors. They were unani- mously of the opinion that the real origin of the whole matter lay in the fact that, on the death of Ald. D. Hughes, Mr T. W. Williams was not elected chairman. He had been acting as chairman occasionally during the absence of Mr Hughes, but upon the latter's death Mr L. N. Williams, how- ever, was made chairman. "Mr. L. N. Williams," said one of the Governors, was not anxious for the post, and was not present when he was elected." "Come to the three illustrations," said the reporter. Well, the three acres business is three years old, and I am surprised at any man bringing it up at this time." What about the mathematical mis- tress?" Well," was the reply, Mr T. Wal- ter Williams was very sore on that point. I think Mr L. N. Williams was in favour of appointing a mistress, but the bulk of the Governors decided to wait until the three inspectors of the Welsh Central Board paid us a visit. The inspectors came, and not one of them suggested or hinted the need of another mistress. In the meeting at which the Inspectors were present, Mr T. AN. Williams asked them a question concerning the matter, and one of them replied The school is working admir- ably and the teachers fit in splendid- ly" Notwithstanding this, Mr T. Wal- ter Williams, just before the close of the meeting, and before the inspectors had left, got up and said: We must proceed to appoint a mistress now." Mr L. N. Williams replied: "No, there is nothing on the agenda." Mr T. Walter Williams thereupon got furious and threatened to report the Governors to the Council. He was appealed to by several members to be reasonable, Mr L. N. Williams in the meantime re- marking that he was in the hands of the Governors and would proceed if they wished it. Mr T. W. Williams, how- ever, was not to be appeased, and the meeting broke up in disorder, the In- spectors scampering out and the lady members terrified. Some of the Governors remained with Mr T. W. Williams, and he was told straight that all his obstruction and ill-feeling arose out of the fact that he had not been made chairman. With regard to the third illustration (the alterations to the school), we ad- hered to the agenda from beginning to end. A sub-committee had met Mr Pughe Jones, the County architect, and there was a recommendation concerning, a window in the kitchen. When ve were going on with the business Mr T. W. Williams took out papers from his pocket, and said that that particular point was to be considered by the Coun- ty Council on the following day. The Chairman, who has been most patient with him all along, asked him to wait. Mr T. W. Williams again brought it up, and because he was ruled out of order he closed the paper and put it in his pocket. Some hard words ensued be- tween the two Williamses, but 1 must say that Mr T. Walter Williams' con- duct—and I speak with perfect im- partiality—was enough to goad any man to strike him. The incident in the corridor has been referred to. Mr T. W. Williams called Mr L. N. Williams an idiot, and made another dirty re- mark, and Mr L. N. Williams rose his fist and told him if he would repeat that remark he would strike him. Mr T. W. Williams, who was frothing at the mouth, turned deadly pale, but did not repeat the remark. "I don't know," remarked another Governor, what we shall do in future. Mr. T. L. Davies has not attended for some months; Mr Rees Llewelyn has been absent for some months, and I gather the reasons why."

Building Trade Dispute. With regard to the dispute between employers and operatives in the area of the Aberdare District Council a meet- ing of the Western Conciliation Board was held in Bristol on Monday, when it was decided that the joiners obtain an advance of d. per hour on May 16, 1914, and another I.d. on January r 1915. The present agreement is to fer- ivinate in May, 1917. Labourers wiR also obtain ^d. advance and will be pro- vided with a code of rules on May 16, 1914, and are to give 6 months notice in November, if any further, advance is demanded. The case for the employers was presented at the Board by Mr Julian, Pontypridd; Mr D. Tyssul Davies, Trecynon, and Mr Gwilym Davies (John Morgan and Son, Aber- dare, Ltd.). The case for the oper- atives was put by Mr T. Lewis, secre- tary. Messrs. David Lewis, president; Enoch Jones, vice-president; Mr James, of Merthyr, organiser; Mr Patrick Clarke and Mr Merritt wf-re called to give evidence on behalf of tber joiners and labourers. On Wednesday evening, at the Bute Arms, Aberdare, a meeting of the Building Trade Feder- ation was held, when the above report was presented and ratified. It was de- cided to make a strenuous effort to get all engaged in the building trade with- in the pale of the Union. The Aber- dare district is organised almost to a man, and it is understood that employ- ers and employees are on amicable terms.

Billiards. On Thursday evening a return match between Aberaman and Abercynon took pace at the Workmen's Institute, Aber- eynon, the home team winning by 74 points. Scores: Abercynon, Tim Hughes, 200; William Powell, 200; Enoch Davies, 200; Jim Williams, 153; William Garbett, 185; and W. N. Wyndham, 200; total, 1,138. Aberaman: Robert Howells, 131; Thomas Thomas, 168; David Williams, 170; Evan Jones, 200; Jack Llewelyn, 200, and Philip Morgan, 195; total, 1,064.
ABERDARE.
ABERDARE. CYCLE ACCIDENT. Mr Sansum, manager of the Glancynon Foundry, had a marvellous escape from death at Brecon on Saturday evening. Mr. San- sum was motor-cycling into the borough along the Merthyr Road when he failed to take the turn over the Tarrell Bridge, with the result that the machine crashed against the side of the bridge, and he was thrown completely over into the river. He fell among some large stones, and sustained serious injuries, oj including a fractured leg.
