THE WAR. Prisoner of War. +- Pte. Reggio Carr, son of Mrs. Carr, Hawthorne Terrace, Aberdare, is home on leavo after having been a prisoner in Ger- many for some time. He looks well. Pte. Carr is glad to be home again. He is looking forward to having his discharge shortly. He was employed previous to enlisting by Mr. Pardoe, ironmonger. Daviestown War Heroes' Fund.— —The following heroes were pre- sented privately at their own homes by the above Fund while on their Xmas leave, receiving a El noto and a wallet each Pte. T. H. Evans, 43 Wind Street; Pte. G. Tasker, Bute Street; Pte. Jack Bowdidge, Albort Street; Pte. Fred Dodge, Albert Street; Pte. D. Williams, Dumfries Street; Ptes. Best (two brothers), Dumfries Street; Pte. J. Pritchard, Brynywawr, Nant Row; Corpl. Dick Hurt, Albert Street; Pte. Pink, Upper Regent Street; Pte. L. J. Rogers, Upper Regent St. Driver Geo. Bowdidge, Albert Street; Pte. Bob Payne, R.W.F., Bond Street, and Pte. Geo. Parker Jones, Dumfries Street. The com- mittee would deem it a favour if relatives or friends of soldiers (liv- ing within this area) now serving overseas, who have not as yet been presented by the fund, would kindly report their home address to the secretary, Mr David Morris, 1 Oak Street, Aberdare. Pte. J. Miles, Wind Street, returned home on Saturday morning, having been in captivity in Germany for over four years. It is intended to make a good presentation to him. He has suffered much harsh treatment and starvation. Another Released Captive. On Saturday evening, Pte. T. Hodges, Dorset Regt., Cardiff Road, Aber- aman, was presented with -21 Is. by his friends at the Plasterers' Arms, Aberdare. Pte. Hodges was a re- servist when the war commenced, and was called up and drafted to France with the "Old Contempti- bles." Early in the war he was captured by the Germans, and was in captivity for four years and four months. The sufferings he had to enduro wero very great, and it is a wonder that he is alive to tell the tale. Returned Prisoner of War.
