LETTERS TO THE EDITOR. ABERDARE GENERAL HOSPITAL. Dear Sir,—Christmas is again at our door and mast people's thoughts are busy wit i preparations for the festive .season. May I respectfully appeal to the public through the medium of your paper, that while making preparations for their own enjoyment, they should not forget the staff and patients at the above hospital. Sir,—May I be allowed to point out what causes a great deal of discontent in the village of Llwydcoed at present, viz., the conduct of the boys from the Cot- tage Homes. Going'down the main road last week I saw an elderly lady being subjected to the impertinence of Homes' boys. I hear from another source that they cause a great disturbance in our local Sunday Schools, some boys eventually being driven out of" a certaii vestry. "Boys will be boys" admittedly, but I believe these boys exceed the speed limit. Trusting those in charge will notify the boys of this, for better conduct on their part will help to re- move the apathy with which some resi- dents regard them. VOX POPUL1.

ABERCWMBOI JOTTINGS. BY SYLVANUS. My notes a fortnight ago re the Whr Memorial, have been misconstrued by some, for it was reported in the meeting of the Abercwmboi Discharged Soldiers and Sailors that I was blaming them for not moving in the matter. What I said was, that the local branch was looked upon as one of the strongest in the valley, and that we could safely look for a good support from them. Who is to be blamed, I can't say, but a committee has been formed to go into the question of organising a fund. '1 Four of the members of the D.S. and S. were elected to assist this committee. But so far nothing has been done. I So I say this week again, now that the winter months are upon us, let the com- mittee meet and re-start on the good work. Svlvanus has been asked again to come to the rescue. This time re Eobt. Owen's Prize Drawing. It transpires that some years ago the above drawing took place when some dispute arose as to the object of the same. County Court proceetling.4 were taken, when a verdict was given in favour of the committee. In February last. at a public meeting, it was decided to share the- money be- tween those inhabitants who are in need. A Committee of six were elected and met the Prize Drawing Committee so as to share the money. The new committee met, but only the Secretary of the Drawing turned up. Result, nothing doing. So I am asked to try and get thiii Committee to action, now that Xmas is near. The few pounds in hand would be a God-send if only distributed in shil- lings between the very poor of the place. I May I suggest that a few bills be put in the windows of the business houses, calling the two committees together. THE BUTE ESTATE. < FOURTH DAY'S SALE. there-was a. large attendance again on Thursday, the fourth day of. sale. Bid- ding was much more brisk than on the previous day, purchasers in almost every instance, being the sitting tenants. Mr. J. Alexander, who was in charge of the proceedings, announced that the auction- eer6 had been approached by the trustees of Nazareth Chapel, which was one of the lots for 6a10 that day. There was no doubt that the ground rent which had been paid in this case was excessive, and having regard to that fact it had been decided to dispose of the lot to the trus- tees by private treaty for £120. ——————————— I ABERDARE CROCERS' ASSOCIA- TION. The ordinary monthly meeting of the members of the Grocers Association was held at Messrs. Miles' Restaurant, Canon Street, Aberdare, on Tuesday evening, December 2nd. The chair was taken by Mr. Thos. Lloyd. The arrangements for Xmas closing were fixed, it being agreed to close Xmas Day, Boxing Day and also the following Thursday, New Year's Day.—Mr. Thomas Evans ga,ve an inter- esting account of the proceedings of the South Wales Council held at Swansea on October 30th. After referring to the work accomplished by the Management Committee, and the reports received from the General Purposes Committee, Mr. Evans mentioned that the sugges- tion of holding an Exhibition of the Trade in Swansea had been mooted, and he hoped that the coming year would see such an event take place. Arising out of the comments upon the discussion as to the personnel of Profiteering Com- mittees, the members now desired to know the position relating to the matter of Co-operators sitting upon Committees in relation to cases of private traders charged under the provisions of the Act. The Secretary was directed to write the Grocers' Federation for an expression of opinion upon this subject. Mr. Evans made a strong appeal for the institution of some function as a means to provide some assistance to the Grocers' Benevol- ent Fund, and insomuch as they lioped to have the next meeting of the South Wales Council at Aberdare during the coming Spring, he hoped that some soc- ial event could be arranged coincident with the vii of "their brothers in the 1 trade" in South Wales. The suggestion was very favourably received, and Mr. Evans was instructed to repeat the in- vitation for an early visit of the South Wales Council to Aberdare. Upon a proposition by Mr. G. W. Fletcher, sec- onded by Mr. Morgan Watkins, a hearty vote of thanks was extended to Mr Evans for his lucid report of the pro- ceedings.
