DISAPPEARANCE CF, A JASU BOX. —Mr Sims, a showman at the Carmarthen mttrket, who has a large collection of swings, etc met with a pecuniary loss on Saturday n ght, about 9 p.m. The cash box. containing £21 lOs, was found to ha%e been removed from his van. The police are on the track of one of the showman s junior assistants, who disappeared at about the same time. Williams, hon. sec., pro. tern. OI'TING TO THE ANCHOR HOUSE EMPLOYEES.— In the afternoon of Thursday, the 28 ih ult., Mr E R Evans, of the Anchor House, gave an outing to his employees. The party to the number of about twenty started from Guildhall-equare in a brake about two o'clock, and arrived at Llanstephsn in due course. This favourite resort being reached a very enjoyable afternoon was spent, during the course of which the parly were entertained to lea at the Casllc Hotel. TEMPERANCE.—Last Sunday evening the temperance meeting at the Tabernacle Schoolroom was addiessed by Mr Williams, Old College School, who appealed for greater sympathy to be shown to drunkards.—The Rev T. L. Rees, a former missionary in Jamaica, and now working among the sailors of Milfoid Haven, had had his last temperance meeting on board a vessel with a cargo of 70,000 gallons of rum. If sailors could be induced to become temperarce men then it would be an easy matter, he thought, to evangelise the world.—The Rev D. S. Davies said that some terrible catastrophe in war produced by means of diink would first of all have to take place before the English nation would be thoroughly aroused to the evils of drink.—The Rev 1- U. Thomas, pastor, closed with prayer.—The next meeting will be held at Union-st. ANNIVERSARY AT WATER-STKK.KT.— The usual anniversary meetings were held at Water-street Chapel, Carmarthen, 0"1 Sunday nnd Monday. On Sunday morning the service was introduced by the Rev T F Jouee, Goppa and the Rev Philiip Jonce, Fishguard, preached. Iu the afternoon the sermon was preached by the Rev T F Jonce, the service having been introduced by the Rev Phillip Jones. At the evening meeting the serviie was introduced by Mr Wil.iams (student at Old College Sjhool), aud excellent sermons were preached by both the rev gentlemen. On Monday evening there was a crowded congregation to hear the able eermone preached by both the rev. gentle- men the service on this occasion was introduced by Mr Jones, -Niaestex (a student at Old College School). Herbert Jones ("Caeralaw Bach") presided at the harmonium in a very pleasing manner. Altogether the anniversary meetings were quite os successful as in former years CARMARTHEN JUNE FAIR,—The Carmarthen June Fair or Flair Newjild Catrfyrddin, as it is better known amongst the agricultural community, was commenced on Tuesday evening with a good muster of horses, and continued throughout Wednesday. Lammas-strett a ad the adjacent thoroughfares were packed with cattle and horses. On neither day did horses sell briskly, the dialers fiom various pitits of England being someAvhat disappointed with the geneial appearance of the animals. In addition to this, the scarcity of grass in the home counties militated against an incre-ee in prices. Some fairly cood steppers went at £:O a-piecp, and many exchanged hiii-.(I- from that figure down to £ 10. Some of the best rot deters and cainago horses fetched L'30 to £,to- Few carters were seen at 11,2 fair but a good naanv po:»ies were oliered at £ > to £ lo'. Two-vear-olds met a slow demand at £ 10 to X'12 and good yearlings realised iS to £ 12. A few of the hest two-year- old-sterrs sold at E 12 each, but two-y, ar-el I barr. n heifers commanded a little higher price, viz., from £ 10 to £ 1-3. Yearlings, winch were not in request, were bought at t6 to C8. A great number of cows with calves went at £ 9 to :Cl f. There was nothing telling in fat beasts, except bulls, at 5d per lb. The wool and flannel d partmeut wes fully stocked, but the demand was very slow, especially for llannel. The quotations were: -Bect wool 10.1 to ] 01, ri per lb; cousc wool, Ià to lOd flannel shirting, 10.1 to Is dress stufR 13d to Ud and suitings, 2s 91 to per yard. The pleasure fair was largely patronised.

Carmarthen Chamber of Commerce. A Infctinfj of this Coanuil was held on Monday evening, at the Town Hall, when .there were present, Mwwrs T E. Pritchard (treasurer), and the secretary, J. Saer. D\NGER LIGHTS ON LLANSTEP11 AN CROSSING. It had been previously brought under the notice of the Chamber that there weie no lights tixed on the n-ates at L'.anstephan and Pensarn railway crossings, the absence of which was a source of danger to carriages and bicycles on dark night. The Ciamber had called attention to the matter, and now the officials of the G.W.R. Co. had promised to fix the necessary lights. A PRIZE FOR THE JOINT COU, NTI ES' SHO W. The Council decided to fri ve an open prize of £, <>s at the forthcoming show of the Joint Counties Agricultural Society to be shortly held at Carmarthen as a mark of the Chamber's appreciation of the decision of the Society to hold the show in this town. THE PROPOSED NEW PASSENGER STATION. It was resolved to ask the co-operation of the Town Council and other bodies in pressing the Great Western Riilvvay Compauy to hasten forward the Miection of anew passenger fetation at Carmarthen, and thus do away with the inconvenience of changing -i at the Junction. THE PROPOSED RECREATION AND EXHIBITION GROUND. The meeting was adjourned for a fortnight, and it was decided to take further steps meanwhile to obtain an answer from the lessees of the land near Magazine- row, with a view to its being obtained for a Recreation and Exhibition Ground.

On Monday evening he received information concerning the theft of a halter. Theio was no train to i e.nbrey. and so he manipulated his rubber-machine with great speed, all i ariived at the above place just m time to iiieit David Thomas, butcher, who on being taken before the local bench of magistrates on Tuesday, was mulcted in the sum of o5s 6<l, the c. mtnble being complimented on the ittjartness of his capture.

LLANDILO. A WHITE SPARROW is at present amongst the feathered visitors to some of the gardens in the Cresent-road, at the back of Mr W. Lewis's, the coach builder. THE BIBLE SOCHar. -The annual meeting of the local auxiliary of the Bib!e Society was held on Monday evening at the Drill Hall. The attendance was )Jut šo encouraging as the report, which showed that over t30 had been remitted during the year to the parent society. The chair was occupied by the Rev W. R. Davies. The deputation was the Rev H. Powell, Pembroke. Allis GWTYNNE-HUGHES' VARIETY ENTERTAINMENT. On the evening of Thursday, the 2Sth of May, Mrs Gwynne-IIughes gave a variety entertainment at the Drill Hall, on behalf of the funds of the Church Sunday School. Her efforts to cater for the public were met by a full house. The Volunteer Band, under the conduetorship of Sergeant Howells, contributed some capital selections of music in goo I style, whilst the Llandilo Male Voice Party, led by Mr D. Morgan, Carmarthen-street, gave very pleasingly "The Sailor's Chorus" and" The Little Church." Mrs Gwynne Hughes, Mis. Fanny Thomas, Miss Hilda Lockyer, and Miss Hoberts, of Tenby, contributed songs to the evening's entertainment, and were all well received. Mr L. Atkins gave II Trovatore very creditably cn the violin. Mr Brunei White, Carmar- then, was very successful with his comic songs. The favourite of the evening was, undoubtedly, Mr Campbell Thomas, of Swansea, who is evidently a born" comb." He was irres:stibly encored. But the main feature of the entertainment was a series of what were very aptly and appropriately termed Living Pictures," and the only fault one has to find with them is that they were so transitory. The curtains had to be withdrawn a second time for every picture, so entranced were the audience with them. From a spectacular point of view they seemed more liko scenes from fairyland than aught else. Mr J. W. Nicholas gave-as only ho could give—descriptive sketches. Thomas. A party of Miss l\Ia.c'Arthul"/S scholars gave a cymbal drill with rare precision and execution. It was an admirable performance. Mr J. A. Williams, North Wales, and Mr L. Atkins, Swansea, acted as accompanists.

LLANDYSSUL. CARMARTHENSHIRE DISTRICT OF KECHARITES.— The annual meeting of the Carmarthenshire District of Reehabites was held on Saturday last at Velindre, near Henllan, and was attended by twenty-five out of the tweny-six tents in the ditlict., besides the oliio>rs of the executive, and a considerable number of Msitors. The chair was oocupied by Mr John Allen, Chief Ruler, Llangadoek, who expressed his pleasure at. meeting such a representative gathering. He referred to the encouraging fact that there had been during the year an increase of 200 in the membership, and of £ 400 in the funds. He, however, could have wished that the membership competition had been taken up more heartily, but still very good work had been done. In the competition for adult members, the first prize was obtained by Mr Henry Able, Conwil, who had get sixteen new members. The prize was a beautifully-fiamed emblem second place was taken by Mr T. Hopkin, Llangadoek, with 13 members and Mr J. Lewis, Ferryside. 13. In the juveniles, the first prize of 10s was won by Mary Allen, and John Thomas. Tycroes and second, 5s, by Mary Owen, Llangadoek. The report was read by Mr W. Davies, secretary, Llanelly. It stated that during the year new tents had been opened at Llanstephan, Ferryside, Ammanford, Tycroes, and Conwil, and juvenile tents at Gerwen and Tycroes. The adult membership had increased in one year from 900 to 1,139, and the juvenile from 787 to 879. The adult funds had increased from £ 1,433 to £ 1,808, and in the juveniles there was also an appreciable increase, the present value being £ 270. Besides the foregoing members in the adult tents, there 47 honorary members, and 42 wives, giving a total of 1,228. The mortality experience was most remarkable, being cnly 5 deaths out of 1,180 members and wives. In the juveniles there had also been only 2 deaths out of HïH. -I)iirilig the morning and afternoon sittings various matters concerning the good of the order were dis- cussed, and the debating power was a marked im- provement on that of former years The question of an accident fund was referred to the executive, with instructions to deal with the subject in ease of need. It was decided to hold the next annual meeting at Gxvynfe.—Mr G. J. llodges, Carmarthen, was elected Chief Ruler. MrSamways, schoolmaster, Maesybont, deputy-ruler. Mr W. Davies, Llanelly, and Mr T. Gee, Llanelly, were re-eleited scewtaryand treasurer respectively. Air John Thomas, Llanelly, and Mr Harris, Kidwelly, were appointed auditois.
